  • Patent number: 4063449
Abstract: Apparatus for measuring the flow area of a nozzle assembly is particularly applicable to structures such as jet engine nozzle assemblies or guide vane assemblies wherein a plurality of vanes or airfoil elements are supported in radially spaced apart relation, the apparatus including air moving means for supplying air through a first chamber, a second chamber, an air valve intermediate the chambers and the nozzle assembly. Measuring means are connected to each chamber to measure the respective air pressures. The apparatus can also include means for adjusting the size of the air valve opening between the two chambers as well as additional readout elements for facilitating the rapid and accurate measuring of the flow area of the nozzle assembly.

  • Patent number: 4051622
Abstract: A free flying aerodynamic toy that is manually launched and is composed of an elongate air foil having two identical surfaces that are joined to one another symmetrically of the longitudinal axis so that in response to rotation and translation through air, the surfaces sequentially cooperate with air flow thereover to produce lift. Circular stabilizer plates at opposite ends of the air foil produce vertical stability and have weighted peripheries to increase rotational inertia. Centrally of the air foil is a rib which divides the air foil into two symmetrical parts. The parts extend outward from the rib at a positive dihedral angle (an included angle less than 180.degree.) so as to enhance stability and reduce roll and yaw of the toy.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION1. Field of the InventionThis invention relates to an aerodynamic toy and more particularly to such toy that is capable of free flight so that it can perform maneuvers upon being thrown into the air by the user thereof.2. Description of the Prior ArtU.

  • Patent number: 4044720
Abstract: Apparatus and method for rearing fish in an open body of water by confining the fish in floating raceways located in a shallow zone near the water surface and flowing water from a deeper cold water zone through the raceways. An air injection means is supplied for injecting air into the water at the cold water zone to both aerate and pump the water through the system. Vertically adjustable means may be provided to intake water from various cold water depth zones. A floating waste settlement tank may also be provided downstream of the raceways for repurifying the water.

  • Patent number: 4025435
Abstract: Paint filtering apparatus for supporting a filter medium, such as foraminous cloth or the like, above a paint pail. The apparatus includes an impervious plate larger than the mouth of the paint pail and legs for supporting the plate above a surface on which the paint pail can be rested. The plate defines a circular opening having a diameter smaller than the diameter of the mouth of the paint pail. A cylindric rim that is sized to fit within the hole in the plate and having protrusions fastened thereto for bearing on the plate to retain the rim in place. Above the protrusions the rim defines an annular groove, and there is a strap that can be placed in the groove to retain the filter medium within the groove throughout the extent thereof. The rim is smaller than the diameter of a paint bucket so that a paint bucket can be rested on the rim in an inverted position to afford draining of the same without continuing attention.

  • Patent number: 4024646
Abstract: Apparatus for simultaneously gauging and aligning movable elements to a preselected standard is particularly applicable to structures such as guide vane assemblies wherein a plurality of vanes or airfoil elements are supported in radially spaced apart relation by suitable flange means, the apparatus including jaws movable by motor means for aligning both the trailing and leading edges of individual vanes, a monitoring means being incorporated within the jaws to sense initial alignment of the vane and signal the motor means through a suitable amplifier in order to realign the individual vane by means of the motor means and movable jaws. For the preferred application of gauging and bending airfoil elements, the apparatus also includes means for indexing each vane of an annular vane assembly in alignment with the jaw structure as well as additional control elements for facilitating the rapid and accurate gauging and alignment of the vane assembly.

  • Patent number: 3993290
Abstract: A manually operated agitator for installation in a container of a thixotropic suspension such as catsup or the like. An enlargement for agitating the suspension by movement therethrough and means for securing the enlargement interior of the container to afford movement in two directions. The securing means is fixed to the interior wall of the container remote from the neck opening of the container and secures the enlargement for movement in a direction generally axially of the container and in a direction generally radially of the point of securement.

  • Patent number: 3960432
Abstract: A strain reliever for an electric appliance cord for preventing application of the force applied to electric cord from disengaging the plug at the end of the cord from a socket or a receptacle. An apertured body secured to the receptacle cover plate and a ball chain one end of which is engagable in the apertures. The opposite end of the ball chain has a cord clip for engaging an electrical cord so that when the plug at the end of the cord is engaged in the receptacle any strain on the cord will be taken up by the chain, rather than by the plug-socket engagement.
