  • Patent number: 5048411
Abstract: A calender, in particular for the production of packing sheets, comprises a heated cylinder of larger diameter and a cooled cylinder of smaller diameter. The larger diameter cylinder is rotatably supported in calender stands by bearings which are in fixed position on the stands. The smaller diameter cylinder is rotatably supported by bearings which are slidable in the calender stands so that the smaller diameter cylinder is movable toward and away from the larger diameter cylinder. The bearings of the smaller diameter cylinders are connected with a support beam which is slidable on the calender stands and is movable toward and away from the larger diameter cylinder by double-acting cylinder and piston units acting between the support beam and the stands. Counter-bending mechanism for the smaller diameter cylinder comprises double-acting hydraulic cylinder and piston units acting between the support beam and bearings on outer ends of projecting shaft position of the smaller diameter cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5043615
Abstract: A noncontact magnetic bearing has cylindrical magnetic members magnetized axially, slightly different in radius and different in length, disposed in opposite relation to each other, with their magnetic poles of reverse polarities displaced vertically relative to each other. Either the inner cylindrical magnetic member or the outer cylindrical magnetic member can be used as a shaft, and consequently, the other is fixed to a support member. The inner cylindrical magnetic member and the other cylindrical magnetic member are held at a stable and mutual-noncontact state to provide a noncontact magnetic bearing that is stable axially, as well as radially.

  • Patent number: 5017932
Abstract: A miniature antenna, in which a pair of square conductor plates disposed in parallel with a spacing sufficiently smaller than the wavelength used are fixed to each other to an insulating frame to form an antenna structure which is used also as a case. Feeding terminals are provided at a desired position on one side of each of the conductor plates. High-frequency-wise short-circuit elements are provided at a plurality of positions on other sides of the conductor plates. A gravity-direction sensor, which produces an output in accordance with the direction of gravity, is provided in the case. The plurality of short-circuit elements are selectively short-circuited by the output of the gravity-direction sensor so that the plane of polarization of the antenna is brought into agreement with the direction of gravity.

  • Patent number: 5017001
Abstract: Individual lenses of subsidiary glasses, such as sun glasses, are attached to lenses of ordinary glasses by means of three fasteners, each in the shape of a square arch, made of synthetic resin and each provided, at about the middle of the arch, with an inner projection to form front and rear fitting portions at the front and rear sides of the projections respectively. The three fasteners are fitted respectively, with the front fitting portions, in three grooves provided in the periphery of the subsidiary lens and secured in place. The grooves are located so that lines connecting them form a triangle, with the distance between upper and lower fasteners located near the bridge of the ordinary glasses being larger than the outside diameter, in a vertical direction, of the ordinary glasses. This permits the lens of the subsidiary glasses to be fitted and removed from the lens of ordinary glasses in a direction transverse thereto.

  • Patent number: 5017002
Abstract: An overhead projector comprises a hollow base comprising a writing plate and a reflective Fresnel lens below the writing plate and an air space below the Fresnel lens. A hollow support arm projecting up from one side of the base carries a projection head having an objective lens and deflection mirror. A lamp mounted in the transition between the support arm and the projection head directs light on the writing plate. The hollow support arm is in communication with the interior of the base to provide a cooling air flow path between openings in the base at the side opposite the support arm and openings in the support arm adjacent the projection head, behind which latter openings a blower is mounted. Ribs in the hollow base define air flow distributors for effectively cooling the Fresnel lens and electronic circuit components mounted in the hollow base.

  • Patent number: 5013072
Abstract: The connection has two inserted tubes, one of which, the outer tube (6), is enlarged in order to form a casing (8) for housing two support pads (10) which are held tightly between the two tubes and a radial projection (12) of the inner tube. A gasket (14, 15) with a section in the shape of a recumbent V and which has a cylindrical flange for bearing against the inner tube and a convex flange for bearing against the outer tube, is mounted on each of the ends of the casing (8). The two gaskets face in opposite directions and are fitted onto the pads which hold them tightly. The convex flange (18) is preferably spherical only for a part of its length. This spherical part forms the surface for rubbing against the casing and enables a relative displacement of these two members with no risk of the tightness failing.
