  • Patent number: 8175278
Abstract: The present invention involves establishing a top-level key and optionally also a verification tag. The top-level key is used as the MDP key for encrypting a broadcast medium. Only the part of the key message that contains the encrypted top-level key is authenticated, e.g. using a signature or a Message Access Code (MAC). Any known group-key distribution protocol can be used that is based on the creation of a hierarchy of keys. Examples of such methods are the LKH and SD methods. The group-key distribution protocol output key H, traditionally used as the MDP key, or a derivative thereof is used to encrypt the top-level MDP-key. The invention, further, includes optimization of a group-key message by eliminating unnecessary message components relative a specified group or sub-group of users. The optimization can be made in dependence of contextual data such as user profile, network status, or operator policies.

  • Patent number: 8159801
Abstract: The invention describes an electric circuit (100), a method and a computer program for hot-swapping an electronic board in a telecommunication system, where the increase in current in the electric circuit is controlled by a microcontroller (130) switching a power transistor in a switching circuit (150) so as to gradually increase the capacitor voltage for the electronic board. The current level is measured either in the microcontroller (130) itself or in an external current sense circuit (140) and compared to a maximum current level.

  • Patent number: 8154991
Abstract: The present invention relates to an arrangement comprising an Ethernet carrier network, managed by a management system (100) and comprising a number of levels of management domains, each comprising a number of edge nodes (10, 20, 30, 40) and a number of intermediate nodes (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8). Each edge node (10, 20, 30, 40) comprises fault detection of connectivity check messages and fault locating means with holding means (11, 21, 31, 41) adapted to hold path information for the paths to all other edge nodes. A fault detection means of an edge node having detected a fault is adapted to activate edge node fault locating means to locate the fault using the patch information in the edge node holding means to find a first target intermediate node substantially in the middle of the path containing the fault, and to, directly, send a first loop back message to said intermediate node.

  • Patent number: 8144661
Abstract: The present invention relates to a packet data support node (10A) in a core network and connectable to at least one radio access network over a radio network control node. The packet data support node (10A) comprises duplicating means (12A) for duplicating original downlink data packets intended for a mobile station for which a hand-over is performed from the packet data support node acting as source node to a packet data support node acting as target node, control means (HA) for activating sending of the duplicated data packets to the packet data support node acting as a target node for forwarding to the mobile station such that the original downlink data packets are sent to the mobile station over a source radio access node from the source packet data node (10A). The duplicated data packets are sent to the mobile station over a target radio access node from the packet data source node acting as target node.

  • Patent number: 8144573
Abstract: A method and apparatus that utilizes the synchronization channel (SCH) by the user equipment (UE) to obtain time synchronization information and to perform cell search. In order to perform the SCH detection, only a correlation between the known SCH signal and the received sequence is needed, hence the FFT is not involved in the synchronization step. Typically the SCH and pilot symbols are transmitted with a constant power which is the same for all base stations. Hence, based on the serving cell (SC) SCH and pilot symbols, the power relation between these signals is estimated and the ratio applied when performing time synchronization to other cells (i.e. correlation the received sequence with the SCH from that particular NC) to estimate the pilot signal strength for the NB cell.

  • Patent number: 8144650
Abstract: A method of services request in a packet switched telecommunications network comprising a Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN) arranged for communication with a Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN). During activation of a subscriber session, receiving by the GGSN, from the SGSN in an Update PDP Context Request message, data comprising both 1) an Internet Protocol (IP) address and user plane tunnelling endpoint identifier (TEID) for a Radio Network Controller (RNC) and 2) an IP address and user plane TEID of the SGSN; the GGSN nominally utilizes the IP address and TEID of the RNC for the subscriber session. If an error indication is received by the GGSN indicating that the RNC has restarted, it discards the IP address and TEID corresponding to the RNC and utilizes the IP address and TEID corresponding to the SGSN, whereby the GGSN and SGSN can maintain the subscriber session in the event of an RNC restart.

  • Patent number: 8145137
Abstract: A received total wideband power (61A) in a wireless communications system is measured a number of times during a time interval. Preferably, also code powers ((C/I)i) are measured, directly or indirectly. A probability distribution of a first power quantity (63A, 63B), typically total received power is estimated from the set of measurements, preferably using Kalman filtering techniques, and preferably also a probability distribution of a second power quantity (62A, 62B) related to noise and interference signals. A conditional probability distribution of a noise rise measure to be determined is based at least on the probability distribution of the total power (63A, 63B). From that conditional probability distribution, a value of the noise rise measure is calculated.

  • Patent number: 8139530
Abstract: A system and method for using Mobility Management (MM) and Session Management (SM) procedures in an SAE/LTE system. The present invention modifies several MM and SM procedures that have been defined for other 3GPP access systems (such as GERAN, UTRAN) so that they meet the requirements of LTE/SAE. While the present invention re-uses some existing procedures, it further defines new protocols for MM and SM procedures when accessing 3GPP systems by Evolved UTRAN (EUTRAN). With respect to the new protocols, the encoding rules are re-used from the existing MM and SM procedures and a very similar general message format is created. With respect to the signaling messages, the present invention re-uses the existing information element definitions for each parameter included in a message.

  • Patent number: 8139598
Abstract: A UE is described herein that has a defined QoS database which is used to organize and store various QoS parameter sets which are used to help establish media flows. In one embodiment, the QoS database includes a plurality of tables, where each table is associated with a particular application, and where each table has a plurality of rows, and where each row includes a media type, a requested QoS parameter set, and an optional minimum QoS parameter set. An operator can use a communication network to populate/provision the QoS database. An operator can also use the communication network to fine-tune (update) the QoS database which enables them to enhance the bearer QoS for existing applications and to enable the appropriate bearer QoS for future applications.

  • Patent number: 8135379
Abstract: A portable telecommunications system (PTS) allows mobility and rapid deployment with minimal on-site configuration. PTS systems exchange multicast packets including location and identification information. A protocol manager sets up these communications channels, manages exchanges between PTS systems, and passes the data to or from internal system nodes. The PTS system detects when another PTS system is operating in close physical proximity and automatically perform actions, such as adjustment of transmission power level, to maintain service to the user base.

  • Patent number: 8135549
Abstract: A method and device for calculating the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) caused in a body by the electric field of a wireless communications device. The method involves using a model of a body, wherein the device is placed in proximity to the model and the electric field is measured at discrete points, including measuring the magnitude of the electric field at points of a first and a second surface of the model. By means of the measured magnitudes, the phase at said points is determined, such that the complex electric field at said points is determined. The complex electric field at said points is then used to determine the complex electric field in the model of the body. The complex electric field is used in order to calculate the SAR value caused by the device.
