  • Patent number: 7756532
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for reestablishing wireless communication between a radio access network (RAN1) and a mobile station (MS1), an apparatus (RNC1) used for implementing the method as well as a radio access network (RAN1) including such an apparatus. A downlink radio failure affecting a first set of radio bearers (RB1, RB2) including at least two radio bearers (RB1, RB2) assigned for communicating user data between the radio access network (RAN1) and the mobile station (MS1) is detected. A second set of radio bearers (RB1) for communicating user data is defined, excluding the radio bearer (RB2) having the highest downlink bit rate in the first set of radio bearers (RB1, RB2). Communication reestablishment is initiated using the second set of radio bearers (RB1).

  • Patent number: 7746806
Abstract: A method for determining the capacity that is needed on an lub link to fulfill Grade of Service (GoS) requirements in a Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) Terrestrial Radio Access Network (UTRAN) for both Dedicated Channel (DCH) traffic and High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) traffic. The method includes determining the bandwidth demand of the HSDPA traffic (ElasticDim); calculating an average bandwidth of the DCH traffic on the lub interface (BW use, avg); setting an initial capacity (Capacity) to the capacity need of the DCH traffic (Capacity DCH), wherein at least the initial capacity will be provided for the DCH traffic in the dimensioned system; and, increasing the value of Capacity until a quality requirement of the HSDPA traffic is fulfilled, the maximum value of Capacity reached being the capacity that is needed for DCH and HSDPA traffic for the lub interface.

  • Patent number: 7742765
Abstract: A radio network control node acts across an Iur interface as a drift radio network control node (262) for a user equipment unit (UE) in a communications system supporting a multimedia broadcast multicast service (MBMS). The drift radio network control node (262) maintains a first counter for counting a number of events occurring at the drift radio network control node (262). Registration of the drift radio network control node (262) with a core network node (30) is advantageously delayed until the counter has exceeded a first threshold value. In one example mode, the number of events occurring at the drift network control node (262) which is counted by the counter is a number of user equipment units for which a Iur linking procedure is performed for the MBMS session.

  • Patent number: 7742539
Abstract: A radio transmitter with IQ-modulator error compensation includes a homodyne observation receiver (42) producing a first real baseband (S5) signal from a real radio frequency signal (S2). A real-value extracting element (44) and a down-sampler (46) convert a complex baseband signal (S1) into a second real baseband signal. An adapter (40) determines parameters controlling an IQ-error compensator (12) by minimizing the error between the two real baseband signals. In a preferred embodiment he transmitter also includes a phase shifter (56) providing three different phase shifts to compensate for the fact that the homodyne observation receiver produces a real and not a complex signal.

  • Patent number: 7725709
Abstract: Methods for cryptographic synchronization of data packets. A roll-over counter (ROC) value is periodically appended to and transmitted with a data packet when a function of the packet sequence number equals a predetermined value. The ROC effectively synchronizes the cryptographic transformation of the data packets. Although the disclosed methods are generally applicable to many transmission protocols, they are particularly adaptable for use in systems wherein the data packets are transmitted to a receiver using the Secure Real-Time Transport Protocol (SRTP) as defined in Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Request for Comments (RFC) 3711.

  • Patent number: 7724768
Abstract: Transmission unit comprising a first unit (CM_SCHDR) receiving scheduled first data (DATA2, DATA3) for transmission on at least a first channel, a power control unit (PWR_CTRL) for the first channel responsive to a respective closed loop power regulation signal (TCP_CMD), under which at least the transmit power rate of change is limited to a predetermined value per time unit, a packet data scheduler (HS_SCHDR) scheduling second data packets (DATA1), such as HSDPA data. A permitted power (P_PERM(t)) is defined as the maximum value of either the actual power of a previous instance (P_HS(t?1)) added with the predetermined value (d) or the determined possible power (P_POS(t)). Moreover, an available power is resolved. According to one aspect, the scheduling is performed within these limits. According to a further aspect the power level of the signaling and control channel (HS-SCCH) is further regulated during a transmission interval taking account of shared packet data channel (HS-PDSCH) power level.

  • Patent number: 7720020
Abstract: The present invention relates to relay supported wireless communication to enhance communication performance. In the wireless communication system according to the invention neighboring relay stations are arranged with substantially overlapping coverage. In the method according to the invention mobile stations makes soft association to relay stations. The mobile stations feed back the selection of relay stations and channel quality measures to the base station. The base station adapts the transmission to the relay stations based on each mobile stations reported soft associations and channel quality measures. In this way the control signaling to and from the relay stations can be very limited.

  • Patent number: 7720164
Abstract: Transmission scheme for the uplink of FDMA systems that improves performance in an interference-dominated system by using a pilot scheme that provides enough information so that channel estimates can be obtained for a particular user, but which at the same time makes it possible to use pilot patterns that are different in different cells so that co-channel interference is mitigated. A codeword is used to position a set of pilot symbols within a set of subcarriers wherein each subcarrier has a first pilot time slot and a second pilot time slot associated with one or more data time slots. The set of subcarriers are identified on which to transmit the composite signal and the first pilot time slots and the second pilot time slots are filled with the pilot symbols in accordance with the codeword. The composite signal is then formatted as a combination of modulated data and pilot signals.

  • Patent number: 7711067
Abstract: Non-linear signal conditioning is provided by signal processing in at least 2 consecutive steps (10). In each step (10) an insertion source signal (41) is provided, which is treated non-linearly to fulfil certain restrictions in bandwidth and/or spectral mask. The insertion signal is combined with a main signal (21) using a reinsertion factor (k1-kn), as a correction of the main signal (21). The reinsertion factor of at least one step is larger than the reinsertion factor of a previous step. In particular embodiments, the reinsertion factor increases for each of the at least 2 steps. This principle can be applied to most non-linear signal processing, and for example in PAR reduction systems, dynamic drain bias PA systems, Doherty and Chireix PA systems and in Dynamic Gate Bias systems.
