  • Patent number: 7970395
Abstract: A method of selectively improving the quality of calls carried by a communications network. The method comprises defining off-peak and peak call periods, and during off-peak periods, for each call carried by the network, analysing call data to determine whether or not a network based Voice Quality Enhancement function should be applied to the call and, if yes, applying the function to the call. A database is maintained containing subscriber and/or terminal identities together with respective Voice Quality Enhancement function requirements, said requirements being updated based upon determinations made during said off-peak periods. During peak periods, said network based Voice Quality Enhancement function is invoked on a per call basis in dependence upon the requirements contained in said database for the user(s) and/or terminal(s) participating in the calls.

  • Patent number: 7965993
Abstract: A method and device for compensation of received signal components at a user equipment (UE) used for receiving signal components from a radio base station (RBS). The signal components have at least a first and a second polarization orientation, respectively. The intended reception of the signal component (Yh(n)) having the first polarization deviates from the polarization orientation of the transmitted signal component (Xh(n)) having the first polarization by a first angle (?), and the intended reception of the signal component (Yv(n)) having the second polarization deviates from the polarization orientation of the transmitted signal component (xv(n)) having the second polarization by a second angle (?). The method comprises the steps: determining the correlation values (Ryvv, Ryvy, Ryyv, Ryyy) for the received signals (Yh, Yv) at a first time (k) and a second time (m); using these values to determine the deviation angles (?, ?) performing said compensation using the deviation angles (?, ?).

  • Patent number: 7961752
Abstract: A method of controlling access in a telecommunication network in which a communication medium, such as a set of frequencies, time slots, or codes, is shared among a plurality of mobile units. Transmissions from the mobile units utilize different access modes, such as a direct access mode and a scheduled access mode. Additionally, the transmissions are divided into different communication types, each having an associated priority. A mode access control unit determines for each priority, which access mode to utilize for the associated communication type. Mobile units having data to transmit access the shared communication medium utilizing the access mode determined for the priority of the communication type to which the data belongs.

  • Patent number: 7957743
Abstract: The present invention relates to a cellular communications network and in particular to the problem of identifying cells for neighbor lists, or handover candidates when the cells are identified by a limited number of non-unique identities. The present invention includes a method for a radio base station, wherein the base station receives reports from one or more terminals in neighbor cells quality and non-unique identities. The match is sought in a neighbor cell list non-unique identity with a unique cell identity. If the match cannot be made without ambiguity, the base station causes the terminal to detect the unique cell identity. If the reason for the ambiguity is the particular cell is not included in the neighbor cell list it is included when its unique identity has been established. The uniquely identified cell is used if it is determined to perform a handover.

  • Patent number: 7920888
Abstract: A radio network entity in charge of outer loop power control for a communication with a mobile radio is informed about erroneous data units, requested retransmissions, and/or data units transmission attempts associated with the data units sent by the mobile radio to the radio network. Another radio network entity, which sends a transmission power control signal to the mobile radio to control the mobile's transmit power level based on a target value, detects errors in data units received from the mobile radio and requests retransmission. Information associated with the requested retransmission is used to generate a revised target value. The target value may be revised by an outer loop power controller node or by an outer loop power controller entity in the same node as an ARQ entity that generates the information about erroneous data units, requested retransmissions, and/or data units transmission attempts associated with the data units sent by the mobile radio to the radio network.

  • Patent number: 7912461
Abstract: A signal-power related quantity is estimated by repeating a processing step, where measured values of instantaneous signal powers are processed. At each relevant part step of the processing and for each relevant matrix (99), elements (98) that are indicated to be negligibly small are changed to instead be exactly equal to zero. The computational complexity can thereby be decreased considerably. The principles are applied on determination of signal-power related quantities in wireless communications systems.

  • Patent number: 7908386
Abstract: A method and system for enabling a mobile station (MS) to transfer from one Network Address Translation (NAT) domain to another NAT domain. Dynamic rules created in the first NAT domain are transferred to the second NAT domain via a first Media Policy Routing function. A tunnel is created between the second NAT domain and the first MPR for transferring a MS session. A new session from the MS is created outside the tunnel and once the MS session times out, the MS session, the states existing in the first MPR and the second NAT domain utilizing a new set of dynamic NAT rules created in the second NAT domain are all removed. The tunnel is then removed and communication via a second MPR and the second NAT domain is available.

  • Patent number: 7902921
Abstract: The present invention relates to balanced power amplifier network in combination with outphasing techniques such as Chireix. The object of the present invention is to provide a solution to the problem to combine balanced amplifiers like the current mode class D (CMCD) or class E/F with a LINC network. The main problem is that some power amplifiers have balanced output and the LINC network is single-ended so that a high power low loss transformer that works at several impedance levels is needed, which is hard to realize at cellular frequencies.

  • Patent number: 7904090
Abstract: The invention relates to traffic handling in multi-access communication systems (100). A network-level solution is proposed, in which the access networks (20) provide a network-based ATC server (61) with access-related information comprising measured performance parameters. The ATC server may also receive information from the multi-access terminal (10), e.g. about available access networks. The ATC server coordinates the information and uses it for adaptive traffic control calculations. This typically involves continuously executing an adaptive traffic control algorithm for reaching predetermined control objectives. The control algorithm tracks the reference values and outputs a feedback control signal that is sent back to the user devices. Based on the feedback control signal the multi-access terminals spread their traffic over the available access networks.
