  • Patent number: 4887991
Abstract: A plough drive employs a plough box mounted face to face on a side plate or intermediate plate of a machine frame of a scraper-chain conveyor. A rotatable chain wheel is disposed in the box for driving a chain coupled to the plough. A chain stripper seats in a pocket in the box and is locked therein. The stripper can be withdrawn laterally from the pocket. The stripper is connected to an adjustable annular collar on the casing of a gearing unit which drives the chain wheel and is detachably secured to the side of the box remote from the frame. The gearing unit and stripper can thus be withdrawn together laterally from the box and the chain wheel can likewise be withdrawn laterally via an aperture in the side of the box remote from the frame.

  • Patent number: 4888110
Abstract: A filtering device for filtering a thermoplastic material by passing a continuous filter across a passage through which the material is caused to flow at an elevated temperature and pressure. The filter is passed through entry and exit ports flanking the passage. Seals on the filter cooperate in sealing engagement with the walls of the entry port to prevent the flowable thermoplastic material from escaping therethrough. The exit port is larger than the entry port, and is sealed off by a solidified plug of the thermoplastic material bonded to the filter. The pressure of the thermoplastic material in the filter passage forces the plug out of the exit port into contact with an external stop, with that portion of the plug in contact with the stop being selectively heated to accommodate controlled emergence of the plug and the filter bonded thereto.

  • Patent number: 4886152
Abstract: A power transmission apparatus comprises first and second rotary devices rotatable with respect to each other, a resistance device transmitting power between the first and second rotary devices by the viscous resistance of a viscous fluid, and a device for externally emitting heat generated between the resistance device and the viscous fluid through a lubricant flowing through the connecting portion between the first and second rotary devices.

  • Patent number: 4884470
Abstract: In a power transmission apparatus of viscous coupling type, when two first and second output shafts are kept rotated at two big different speeds for many hours as when the ordinary tire is replaced with a spare tire, temperature and pressure within viscous fluid rise abnormally high. In this case, viscous coupling limit slip differential mode is switched to a free differential mode by means of a movable clutch shaft. Further, it is also preferable to directly couple the first and second output shafts to obtain a differential lock mode when the vehicle is travelling on muddy road.

  • Patent number: 4884429
Abstract: Decelerator apparatus acting to reduce the distance over which lengths of hot rolled product slide before coming to a halt on leaving a rolling mill stand. So as to avoid the use of pinch rolls or the like, the apparatus employs deforming rollers acting on a leading length of said rolled product in a direction perpendicular to its length and a shear for severing the leading length of product from a following length being acted on by said rolling mill stand whilst said rollers are still in motion.

  • Patent number: 4882501
Abstract: A power supply arrangement which is intended, in particular, for intrinsically safe electro-hydraulic control systems for mining and comparable applications, in which several control units and loads controlled thereby are supplied as a group from a common constant voltage source. The voltage source has a current capacity which is smaller than the total current requirement of all the units and loads supplied by it. Each control unit has actual value current measuring device and two controllable current sources which are connected to a common potential line which can simultanously act as a data bus. The arrangement enables the respective effective dynamic current consumption and demands of the control units and loads to be ascertained to enable the available power of the constant voltage source to be determined at any time at the individual control units.

  • Patent number: 4863457
Abstract: This invention relates to a medical device and a method of using the device to deliver a continuous controlled supply of a medication to a specific internal site. Specifically, the invention comprises an inert, biodegradable implant impregnated with one or more therapeutic agents designed to provide a controlled, localized and sustained release of the therapeutic agents. In a preferred embodiment, the device comprises an ocular implant which bioerodes within the eye environment thereby gradually releasing the therapeutic agents at the site to be treated until the entire implant eventually erodes without the need for further surgery. The invention is especially suitable for treating post-operative glaucoma patients.
