  • Patent number: 4771653
Abstract: In an operation chamber 19 filled with silicone oil, there is provided a first resistance plate 21, which is spline-mated to the outer circumference of a first transmission shaft 3, and a second resistance plate 23, which is spline-mated to a second transmission shaft 9. These two resistance plates 21, 23 are clamped at both sides thereof by a clamp means formed from a pair of ring members 27, 29. The ring members 27, 29 are joined to a piston formed from the first transmission shaft 3, the sideplate 11, and a stopper ring 25. Then, when this piston moves in thrust and the clearance between the ring members 27, 29 shrinks, the blocks of the first resistance plate 21 and the second resistance plate 23 arranged side by side are clamped and abutted closely to produce a friction force at the resistance plates 21, 23.

  • Patent number: 4771161
Abstract: An electrically heated tool for appyling an anchoring device having a forwardly protruding nose carrying a hot melt adhesive and a rear recess surrounded by a circular rim has a housing having a head portion and a handle. The head portion has a planar front wall provided with a front recess dimensioned to receive the anchoring device. An electric heater in the head portion has a platen, dimensioned to extend into the rear recess of the anchoring device, protruding into the front recess. The dimensions of the front recess and platen are such that the nose of an anchoring device received in the front recess with the platen extending into the rear recess of the device and in contact with the rear of the nose thereof protrudes slightly forwardly beyond the plane of the front wall so that the nose of the device can be firmly pressed against a surface to obtain secure bonding of the device after the heater has been energized to melt the adhesive.

  • Patent number: 4767391
Abstract: Bags are manufactured from a tubular web of thermoplastic film. An air injector periodically inflates the film whereupon it contacts cooperating vacuum plates. One of the plates has a cutting die which cuts a tab in the film which in turn provides an ingress for the injected air. The film is then sealed and severed to form the bags, which are then formed into a block. The tab then serves as an opening to facilitate the removal of individual bags from the block.

  • Patent number: 4765373
Abstract: A gas flow amplifier has a housing defining an axially extending cylindrical chamber. A hollow truncated conical diffuser diverges outwardly from one end of the chamber, and a high pressure primary gas is introduced into the chamber at its opposite end in a manner such as to entrain a flow of ambient secondary gas into the chamber, and to cause the thus introduced primary gas and entrained secondary gas to exit from the chamber and into and through the diffuser.

  • Patent number: 4762372
Abstract: A cutter-bit assembly employs an arcuate wedge to secure a cutter-bit within a pocket of a holder. The wedge fits into a tapered gap between complementary curved surfaces of the holder and the cutter-bit shank. A projecting insert carried by the shank mates with a serrated portion on the wedge. Contact is established between the wedge and the curved surfaces of the holder and the shank over outer regions separated by non-contacting clearances.

  • Patent number: 4757727
Abstract: A power transmission apparatus having an input shaft connected, by planetary gearing, to two coaxially arranged output shafts. The planetary gearing permits differential rotation between the output shafts. A limiting device located between the output shafts to limit the differential rotation thereof. The limiting device includes a clutch member mounted on the first output shaft and alternating first and second clutch plates. The first plates are axially movable relative to and rotatably fixed to the clutch member, and the second plates are axially movable relative to and rotatably fixed to the second output shaft. An interengaging cam mechanism is carried on the clutch member and the first output shaft, and arranged such that upon relative angular movement between the clutch member and the first output shaft, the clutch member is moved axially to frictionally engage the first and second clutch plates.

  • Patent number: 4755084
Abstract: A mine roof support has a slidable extension at the front end of an auxiliary roof cap pivoted for swinging up and down on a main cap. To prevent the extension from being extended when the angle of inclination of the auxiliary cap is too high an insulative cylindrical block is fitted to say the auxiliary cap to partially rotate as the auxiliary cap pivots. A flattened region on the block supports a metallic plate and indexes as the auxiliary cap pivots. A resiliently-mounted proximity switch on the main cap senses the presence of the plate and produces a signal to prevent the extension from being extended.
