  • Patent number: 4738037
Abstract: The invention relates to a track maintenance vehicle having a levelling attachment secured to a transverse carrier member at its rear. The levelling attachment faces downwards and is at least partially flexible. For achieving satisfactory levelling of relatively loose snow as well as of encrusted or compacted snow, the levelling attachment comprises a leading portion of triangular cross-sectional shape secured to the transverse carrier member along a first triangle side. The second triangle side of this portion is formed as a rigid compaction surface extending downwards and rearwards from the transverse carrier member. Connected to a rear portion of the compaction surface is a plate-shaped flexible portion extending substantially parallel to the second triangle side in the relaxed state, and in a substantially horizontal direction when under load.

  • Patent number: 4730541
Abstract: A sensing system for a vibration isolation table. A sensor responsive to the position of the tabletop is spaced apart from the tabletop and provides an output corresponding to the position of the tabletop. The output is modified to provide a control signal and a valve responsive to the modified signal controls the flow of air into and out of an air isolator which supports the load.

  • Patent number: 4729174
Abstract: A device (gage, data station, and software) and method to measure mean radius and deviations from mean radius of nominally cylindrical or conical shapes in a plane perpendicular to the nominal axis of revolution using curvature measurements at uniformly spaced intervals about the circumference is described. The system divides the contour of interest into equal segments and measures the local curvature at each point. The group of measurements combines with a closure constraint to produce a condition of mathematical overcompleteness. This is used to minimize the accumulation of measurement error.

  • Patent number: 4723406
Abstract: This invention involves an expansible band construction which allows a wide latitude in the design of outer decorative shells, thereby permitting the simulation of chain link type bracelets and other popular styles not available before in an expansion band. This is accomplished by constructing the outer links of the band with a smaller width than the width of the inner link. The band in its contracted state will therefore have significant gaps between adjacent outer links.

  • Patent number: 4721341
Abstract: A cutting head for a selective cutting machine includes internally-fed spraying means including a high pressure water control means which is designed in such a way that only spray nozzles adjacent to cutting tools that are actually cutting are supplied with water under pressure. The water under pressure is supplied from a boom to the rotating cutting head via a piston whose free end surface is pressed, by the pressurized water, against a control surface provided on the cutting head. Said free end surface is formed with a control opening which overlaps control ducts provided in the control surface during rotation of the cutting head, thereby controlling the flow of pressurized water to the various groups of spray nozzles. Non-return valves, which keep the control ducts closed, when they are not aligned with the control opening of the piston, are located in the control ducts.

  • Patent number: 4714679
Abstract: A process for controlling the development of somatic embryos for either a self-replicative or a vine development mode. Somatic embryogenesis is initiated by placing the embryo in a medium conducive for self-replication. When the embryos have grown to a first stage, they are transferred to a medium with cytokinin activity. They continue to grow until they have grown to a second stage at which time they are transferred to a medium without cytokinin activity until they have grown sufficiently and can be transferred to a non-liquid growth medium.

  • Patent number: 4712395
Abstract: A barrel lock and a key for locking and unlocking the barrel lock. The lock has a hollow barrel with a plunger that reciprocates within the bore of the barrel. The plunger is urged forwardly by a bottom spring, and a deterrent ring is urged forwardly against the plunger by a top spring. The plunger has a shallow axial blind bore at its rear end and the deterrent ring has a central aperture, the diameter of the plunger bore being larger than the diameter of the ring aperture. The key has four elongated outer expanding fingers and an inner expander rod. The expanding fingers are sized and shaped so that they can pass entirely through the central aperture of the deterrent ring. When the the key is inserted into the barrel lock and the key handle is operated, the fingers radially expand and grip the inner surface of the lock plunger blind bore. As the handle is operated further, the expanding fingers longitudinally retract and draw the plunger rearwardly permitting the lock to unlock.

  • Patent number: 4708394
Abstract: As is known mineral, e.g. coal, is won from a mineral face with the aid of a winning machine guided for movement along a conveyor composed of individual pans joined end-to-end. The conveyor is advanced towards the face behind the machine by shifting rams linked to the pans. In accordance with the invention, the rams are connected to and disconnected from a supply of pressure fluid in a controlled manner to form a group composed of a predetermined number of rams which are simultaneously charged with pressure fluid and this group progresses along the working behind the machine step-by-step in a sliding fashion within and over larger bank-push groups of rams.
