Abstract: A spigot handle extender, an apparatus for extending a valve handle, includes a rotatable body and engaging means for engaging a valve handle so as to be rotatable conjointly therewith. The engaging means is positioned within the body and is also rotatable conjointly with the body, so that the engaging means rotates an engaged valve handle in response to the rotation of the body. In a preferred embodiment, the body is formed by identical hermaphroditic body halves. The body includes a pair of attached opposing wings, a plurality of slots, and a central bore. The engaging means is an engager which includes abase with an opening, a plurality of bosses projecting from one side, and a plurality of fingers projecting from the opposite side. The bosses on the base fit engagingly into the slots within the body and the fingers on the base fit engagingly between the spokes of the valve handle when the engager and valve handle are enclosed within the body.

  • Patent number: 6182655
Abstract: An inhaler for multiple dosed administration of a pharmacological dry powder consists externally of a housing (100,150) and of a protective cap (950) which can be removed from a special mouthpiece (900) fitted on the housing. Arranged on the inside there are a slide rail (200), a dosing slide (300), a shutter (400), a carriage (500), a funnel arrangement (600), a counter device (700), a valve shield (800) and a valve guide (850). Removal of the protective cap (950) initiates the dosing, with a dose received in the dosing cavity (302) being transported to the mouth-piece (900) by means of the dosing slide (300). Only upon application of a defined minimum intensity of inhalation is the shutter (400) moved by the suctioned valve shield (800), as a result of which the dose is released for inhalation. Completed with an electronic module and a controllable nozzle, all inhalation-relevant data can be recorded and the flow conditions regulated.

  • Patent number: 6180837
Abstract: The invention involves a procedure for the catalytic enantioselective reduction of ketones to chiral alcohols. Heretofore, this reaction was carried out batch-wise. Because, in this procedure, one utilizes a catalyst increased in size with polymer, it is possible to carry out the reaction in a quasi-continuous manner in a membrane reactor. In contrast to the state of the art, one thus dramatically increases the operative life of the catalyst.

  • Patent number: 6181959
Abstract: In the proposed method for detecting spurious signals caused by movements of the patient or his environment in the pulse oximetric measurement of the arterial oxygen saturation, the intensity of the light emerging from the test specimen is measured by two photodiodes (7, 8). The signals (S1, S2) generated at these photodiodes (7, 8) are normalized to equal levels of their DC components. Finally, to detect spurious signals caused by movements, the differences (&Dgr;Sn) of these normalized signals (S1n, S2n) are formed.

  • Patent number: 6166400
Abstract: In thin film transistor, an amorphous diamond is used as an ohmic layer formed between an active layer and a source and drain electrodes. Specifically, in a inverse staggered type thin film transistor, a gate electrode and a gate insulating layer are formed on an insulating substrate. On the gate insulating layer is formed an active layer. An etch stopper is formed on the active layer, overlapping with the gate electrode. Thereafter, an amorphous diamond is overlappingly formed on the gate electrode on a resultant structure and then a metal layer is formed on the resultant in which the ohmic layer is formed. The metal layer and the amorphous diamond layer is patterned until the etch stopper is exposed, forming the ohmic layer and a source electrode and a drain electrode.

  • Patent number: 6146951
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a semiconductor device for preventing ESD damage is disclosed. A semiconductor device for preventing against ESD damage according to a first embodiment of the present invention, is fabricated as follows. Firstly, first impurity ions of a first conductivity type are implanted into a first region of a substrate of a semiconductor device using a first ion implantation, to form a first impurity ion layer. Here, a junction region will be formed in the first region and is connected to an input pad. Second impurity ions of the first conductivity type are then implanted into a second region of the substrate using a second ion implantation, to form a second impurity ion layer over the first ion impurity ion layer. Here, the second region includes the first region. Next, third impurity ions of a second conductivity type are implanted into the substrate of both sides of the first and second impurity ion layers, using a third ion implantation, to form a third impurity ion layer.

  • Patent number: 6140158
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a TFT-LCD which can prevent damage due to a mask process and reduce cost by minimizing mask process number, is disclosed. A three-mask process is required for fabricating a TFT-LCD in the present invention. Firstly, on a transparent insulating substrate are formed a semiconductor layer, a doped semiconductor layer and a first metal layer, sequentially. The first metal layer is then etched using a first mask, to form source and drain electrodes spaced to a selected distance. Next, the doped semiconductor layer is etched using the source and drain electrodes as an etch mask, to form ohmic layers under the source and drain electrodes. A gate insulating layer and a second metal layer are then formed on the overall substrate, in sequence. Thereafter, the second metal layer is etched using a second mask, to form a gate electrode overlapped with the insides of the source and drain electrodes.
