  • Patent number: 5466422
Abstract: A dielectric sheath to cover the electrodes (3) of corona pre-treatment installations in the form of small ceramic pipes. The sheath forms cutouts (17), by which the electrode mounting (4) can be guided through the sheath (6) to the electrode (3). The sheath (6) extends beyond the electrode (3) on both ends by an arbitrary length. As a result, it is possible to utilize electrodes which are shorter than the grounded cylinder (1) located underneath them. The shape of the cutouts and the design of the electrode mountings (4) can now be embodied in various ways.

  • Patent number: 5462314
Abstract: An electro-fusion fitting includes a body which is provided with a heater including a magnetic alloy unit having a predetermined Curie temperature in the vicinity of a joint surface thereof in a manner that a surface of the heater is exposed on the joint surface. The joint surface of the body is brought into contact with a joint surface of a member to be coupled and, if a high-frequency current is applied to the magnetic alloy unit by electromagnetic induction, the magnetic alloy unit generates heat, and a temperature of the magnetic alloy unit is kept at the predetermined Curie temperature due to a temperature self-control function thereof. Therefore, if the Curie temperature is set at a fusion temperature, the joint surfaces of the body and the member to be coupled are coupled to each other.

  • Patent number: 5462430
Abstract: A process and apparatus for cyclonic combustion with ultra-low pollutant emissions and high efficiency wherein a fuel and primary combustion air mixture is tangentially injected into a reducing primary combustion zone of a cyclonic combustor. The primary combustion air is injected into the reducing primary combustion zone in an amount equal to between about 30% and about 90% of a stoichiometric requirement for complete combustion of the fuel. Secondary combustion air is tangentially injected into an oxidizing secondary combustion zone of the cyclonic combustor, in an amount equal to between about 10% and about 90% of the stoichiometric requirement for complete combustion of the fuel. Primary combustion products from the reducing primary combustion zone are mixed with the tangentially injected secondary air for completing combustion within the oxidizing secondary combustion zone.

  • Patent number: 5453101
Abstract: A composite active electrolyte-matrix tape, single laminated active electrolyte-matrix tapes laminate, single electrolyte matrix/cathode tapes laminate, and single composite active electrolyte-matrix/cathode tapes laminate, all in the form of a single flexible sheet for use as fuel cells components, and process for producing same in situ. These components reduce the number of components necessarily handled in fuel cell assembly. The composite active electrolyte-matrix tape provides a major portion or all of the active electrolyte required by the entire cell for operation. The electrolyte matrix/cathode tapes laminate provides a supported electrolyte matrix structure resistant to cracking and fracture. Active electrolyte may also be added to either the electrolyte matrix, to the cathode, or to both tapes in the electrolyte matrix/cathode laminate to provide a major portion or all of the active electrolyte for cell operation. The invention is suited for molten alkali metal carbonates fuel cells.

  • Patent number: 5451179
Abstract: An inflatable flexible pouch having two inner webs positioned between two outer webs. The two inner webs are attached to each other so as to form a channel between both inner webs. Each outer web and each inner web forms a body portion and a neck portion or throat opening. A first outer web is sealably attached to a first inner web and a second outer web is sealably attached to a second inner web, both sealed attachments are positioned at least partially across the neck portion or throat opening of the aligned webs. At least one inner inflatable chamber is formed between both inner webs and positioned within the outer inflatable chamber for providing increased rigidity of the inflated pouch structure. When the flexible pouch is in an inflated condition, communication is preferably closed between each inner inflatable chamber and each outer inflatable chamber, and the inner inflatable chamber is at least partially inflated, for providing even more rigidity.

  • Patent number: 5438844
Abstract: A controller for a gas heat pump system wherein the controller has a variable capacity control capability that responds to thermostat output signals. The variable capacity controller computes real-time performance parameters at variable capacity heating/cooling load conditions of the gas heat pump system. A defrost controller calculates a maximum heat pump operating time period between successive defrost cycles and a minimum heat pump operating time period of each defrost cycle, during a heating mode of the gas heat pump. Such values are calculated as a function of sensed time, temperature and variable capacity operating conditions which are calculated by the variable capacity controller. The controller preferably has a manual mode for verifying correct operation of each actuator of the gas heat pump system, as a function of a sequenced input signal, while the gas heat pump system is in a shutdown mode.
