    Abstract: A cosmetic preparation comprises a cosmetic powder implanted into a film of fixative on an area of the body by applying the fixative to the area, allowing the fixative to partially dry to form a film, applying the cosmetic powder to the partially dried fixative, and allowing the fixative to completely dry. As a result of this method of applying the cosmetic powder, the powder is maintained in position by the fixative and some particles project outwardly from the film.

The transformation is effected by optically imaging the information carrying structure onto a layer of liquid crystals. By this means, a thermogram corresponding to the information carrying structure produced in the layer of liquid crystals, so that the luminosity values of the structure carrying information is transformed into isotherms in the layer of liquid crystals, and the isotherms are converted into isochromates as a result of the colour/temperature behaviour of the layer of liquid crystals.

    Abstract: In an apparatus for process analysis, a test substance is removed from the process stream by a probe and fed to an analysis instrument with a measured value display. Upstream of the analysis instrument, the test gas is conveyed through condensers. A monitoring unit is coupled to the analysis instruments and the processing chain without influencing the flow of data from the analysis instrument to the measured value display. The monitoring unit receives information about the entire apparatus via status sensors which are incorporated into the processing chain and into the analysis instrument. Depending on this information, the monitoring unit can intervene via solenoid valves, switches and motor potentiometers into the apparatus and alter its operation. The condition of the apparatus can also be displayed.

    Abstract: A pendulum gate valve with a pressure tight housing and inlet and outlet openings arranged on opposite sides of the housing. The drive rod for the pendulum frame is guided throughout its total path by a joint connected to the pendulum frame which can swivel about the shaft of the pendulum frame but can in addition also move independently of the swiveling motion of the pendulum frame. A guide mechanism is provided for the further movement of the joint outside the swiveling range, which forces the joint onto a path that runs substantially parallel to the drive rod. The guide mechanism consists of a thrust rod forming part of the pressing device which urges the gate valve plate against the sealing bearing surface and which is connected to the drive rod. The thrust rod is mounted in a longitudinally movable manner in the pendulum frame and runs parallel to the drive rod in the closed position of the gate valve plate.

    Abstract: Continuous fermentation of solutions such as grape juice with wine yeast is carried out in a tower under sterile conditions. In the process, a tower with an enlarged upper end section is sterilized with steam followed by introducing sterile gas into the tower to maintain a positive pressure of sterilized gas therein, then continuously introducing a fermentable solution into the lower end of the tower, fermenting the solution while introducing a stream of bubbles of sterile gas to agitate the solution, continuously removing fermentation products from the upper end section of the tower, separating yeast from the products and reintroducing the yeast into the lower end of the tower. Before fermentation of the solution, yeast may be cultured under aerobic conditions and when the desired yeast concentration is reached, the solution to be fermented is introduced and fermented under anaerobic conditions.

    Abstract: A process for the preparation of trimethylsilyl cyanide comprising reacting trimethylsilyl chloride with an approximately equimolar amount of an alkali metal cyanide in the presence of a catalytic amount of a heavy metal cyanide and in the presence of an aprotic solvent with a boiling point above about 150.degree. C., at a temperature between about 130.degree. and 250.degree. C. Advantageously the reaction temperature is between about 160.degree. and 220.degree. C., the alkali metal cyanide is sodium cyanide or potassium cyanide, the heavy metal cyanide is copper(I) cyanide, copper(II) cyanide, zinc cyanide or a complex compound of one of them with an alkali metal cyanide and is employed in about 1 to 8 mol % relative to the alkali metal cyanide, and the mixture of aprotic solvent, heavy metal cyanide and alkali metal chloride remaining in the reaction vessel when the reaction has ended is used directly as the reaction medium for a further batch.

C., and then directly reacting the reaction mixture thus obtained with the thiocarbahydrazide. Advantageously R is CH.sub.

    Abstract: Process for continuous production of propylene oxide (FIG. 1) from propylene and aqueous hydrogen peroxide. The aqueous hydrogen peroxide is first reacted with propionic acid in the presence of acid catalyst to form perpropionic acid (1). The perpropionic acid is taken up by extraction in benzene (5, 12), and following drying of the benzene solution (16), the perpropionic acid in the solution is reacted with propylene (18) for oxidation of the propylene to propylene oxide and conversion of the perpropionic acid back to propionic acid. The reaction mixture is worked up to separate propylene oxide, propionic acid and benzene (25, 27, 31, 33), and the latter two are recycled. In the benzene extraction (5, 12), an aqueous raffinate (7) is formed containing hydrogen peroxide and acid catalyst. Water is removed from the aqueous raffinate (8) and the concentrate is recycled to the propionic acid reactor. Make-up hydrogen peroxide can be added to the aqueous raffinate before the removal of water.
