Abstract: 2-Substituted-alkyl-5-substituted-N,N-dimethyl-carbamic acid O-pyrimidin-6-yl esters of the formula ##STR1## in which R and R.sup.2 each independently is alkoxy, alkylthio, alkylsulphinyl or alkylsulphonyl andR.sup.1 is hydrogen or alkyl,which possess pesticidal properties. The hydroxypyrimidines corresponding to the esters are also new.

Abstract: A method and a system for uniformly heating a glass stream flowing in the feeder of a glass melting furnace wherein power or energy is supplied through the electrodes immersed in the glass melt and wherein the temperature of the glass stream is continuously detected, has the current flowing between cooperating electrodes maintained constant independently of the resistance defined by the glass melt by controlling the voltage as long as the temperature of the glass stream does not deviate from predetermined limits and the current flow of at least a number of electrodes positioned at the inlet of the feeder are controlled to compensate for temperature variations when the tolerable deviation limit has been exceeded.
Abstract: The invention relates to (meth)acrylic acid esters of compounds of Formula (I) as defined infra and methods for their preparation. The esters formed can be used to provide dental repair material and also to provide adhesive or sealing agents. In addition, the invention includes a process for preparing compositions which harden in the absence of oxygen by admixing a compound of the invention with an initiator.

Abstract: In a labeling machine having a rotatable carrier and at least one pickup element rotatably mounted on the carrier, the drive for each pickup element comprising a four-way toggle mechanism including a crank, a connecting rod, a swinging link, with the connecting rod being joined to the crank and swinging link at two respective joints. Two cam followers are connected to the connecting rod by lever arms and are disposed outside the joints of the swinging link and the connecting rod on the one hand and the connecting rod and crank on the other hand. The four-way toggle mechanism and lever arms fixed to the connecting rod of the followers are adjusted to one another such that during a revolution of the carrier, the field swept by the swinging link does not encompass the axis of rotation of the carrier.

Abstract: An aromatic polyazomethine of the structural formula ##STR1## wherein R represents hydrogen, halogen, alkyl or alkoxy,R' represents identical or different alkyl moieties which can be terminally halogen substituted or halogen or hydrogen,n and m represent values between 0 and 2, andx is equal to or less than 100.Also disclosed is a method for preparing such polyazomethine by contacting a benzidine compound of the formula ##STR2## wherein R and m have the meanings given above in an organic solvent with a dialdehyde of the formula ##STR3## wherein R' and n have the meanings given above. Preferably a solvent which forms an azeotrope with water is employed. The polyazomethines are useful as coloring materials e.g. pigments for polymers, especially thermoplastic polymers.
Abstract: Non-ionic emulsifiers which are of the type comprising addition products of alkylene oxides and compounds containing hydroxyl groups, carboxyl groups or carboxamide groups and are free from impurities originating from their preparation are obtained by dissolving the reaction mixtures in organic, water-immiscible organic solvents, treating the solutions with water, separating off the aqueous layer and, if appropriate, isolating the emulsifiers by removing the organic solvents.
Abstract: A method of preserving cut flowers and other parts of plants which have been cut off, comprising placing the flowers or parts of plants in water containing an N-(trifluoromethyl)-N-(dichlorofluoromethylsulphenyl)-aminobenzoic acid, or salt thereof, of the formula ##STR1## in which M is hydrogen or 1 equivalent of an alkali metal atom or of an alkaline earth metal atom, andR is hydrogen, methyl, methoxy, trifluoro-methyl, chlorine or nitro.The active material can be employed in the form of a composition also containing water, a carbohydrate and a salt of magnesium, boron or aluminum. It can be held as a dry concentrate on a carrier such as kieselguhr, a natural or synthetic zeolite or alumina.

Abstract: In the process for decreasing the COD-content of effluent by treating with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a transition metal compound, the improvement which comprises adding to the effluent about 50 to 65% of the calculated quantity of H.sub.2 O.sub.2 required for the total oxidation of the total COD-content of the effluent, the transition metal compound being dissolved in the effluent in an amount such that the molar ratio of H.sub.2 O.sub.2 to transition metal is from about 30:1 to 3:1, bringing the pH initially to about 2 to 9, maintaining the effluent at about 5.degree. to 100.degree. C., and separating from the effluent whatever material has flocculated. Thereafter the effluent can be subjected to conventional biological degradation such as by the activated sludge process.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of partial hydrolyzates of orthosilicic acid tetra(alkoxyalkyl) ester having a stable shelf life is described by hydrolysis of a silicic acid tetra(alkoxyalkyl) ester with water, suitably in the presence of an acid and optionally in the presence of a solvent, wherein the stoichiometrically necessary amount of water is present at the commencement of the reaction.

(b) carrying out the second stage at a pH of about 2-8.
