Abstract: A method and apparatus are described for controlling the flow of power in each input line to a three phase AC inductive load in order to reduce the amount of VAR in the system, and thus increase the operational efficiency of the inductive load. Solid state relays are positioned in series in each of the three inductive load line inputs, and current allowed to flow to the inductive load only during the time during which the SSRs are in a conducting state. The calculation of VAR is achieved by processing data from each of the input lines using a separate controller boards each dedicated to each of the lines. The controller in turn, based on the calculated VAR, increments the time, either increasing or decreasing it from a predetermined value, during which the SSRs in that line remains in the non-conducting state.
Abstract: A portable multipurpose lock having a shackle base with two parallel rods having opposing interior sides with spaced-apart detents, an adjustable lock body with through holes for slidable insertion of the rods, a lock for engaging the rods to secure and lock the lock body on the rods, and one or more recesses formed in the shackle base, lock body, or both, which facilitates placement of the lock around an object or objects to be secured.
Abstract: A machine tool stand and/or workbench, electrical outlet panel, light supply, and modular task box system, combined into an integrated system that includes a support structure having a support base on wheels and side rails disposed on the surface of the support base. The side rails include structure for attaching tool holders, work pieces holders, work surfaces, and the like.
Abstract: An apparatus for teaching rhythm includes a housing having a plurality of tempo indicator lights and a plurality of beat indicator lights corresponding to the tempo indicator lights, such that the beat indicator lights can be selectively illuminated to indicate a desired beat in a rhythm. Circuitry illuminates the tempo indicator lights in sequence and the selected beat indicator lights in sequence, so that a user may attempt to manually generate a sequence of sounds synchronous with the selectively illuminated beat indicator lights.
Abstract: A sports board binding and foot traction apparatus for use in sports boards such as surfboard, skateboard, wakeboards, and the like. The apparatus includes a sports board having an upper surface and at least one magnet holding receptable disposed in the upper surface; A a ferromagnetic bar is disposed under the bottom of the magnet holding receptacles, and permanent magnets are placed in the receptacles to form a magnetic region on the surface of the board. An article of sports footwear having a sole is provided, and a ferromagnetic plate is disposed in at lest a portion of the footwear soles. When the footwear is brought into proximity with the magnetic field, a binding force is applied to the footwear.
Abstract: A deck mounted for installation on the surface of a vessel deck having one or more bolt holes. The apparatus includes one or more base portions, each having a recess region defined by a perimeter wall bounding the perimeter of the base portion. The perimeter walls each have an underside rim. One or more threaded members are provided for insertion through the bolt holes in the vessel deck, and complementary threaded female members are provided, one each to receive and tighten onto a threaded rod. A resilient gasket is disposed in the recess region within the confines of the perimeter wall. The threaded rod passes through the gasket hole, such that when the threaded rods are inserted through the vessel deck, and received by and tightened into the respective threaded female members, the gaskets are displaced and deformed so as to protrude between the underside rims of the perimeter walls and the upper surface of the vessel deck.
Abstract: An automatically programmable tilting mechanism for holding a scribe tool at varying angles using an aerostatic bearing. The air bearing secures the scribe tool about its longitudinal shank and generally allows for free axial movement while the tool holding structure prevents rotation of the scribe tool, thus providing extremely fine compliance and force application of the scribe tool point against the substrate. During a scribing process, the tilting mechanism regularly adjusts the angle of the scribe tool relative to the substrate so that a fresh cutting edge is always being employed in the scribing process.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the efficient and controllable delivery of cryogen liquid droplets into thin walled containers. Discharge of the droplets is facilitated using a horizontal displacement assembly to transport metered droplets from a liquid dosing unit to the point of injection above the container. The horizontal displacement assembly may be provided with internal heaters to prevent freeze up, and a sensor to confirm droplet discharge. It may also be provided with a separate source of heated nitrogen gas, which can be used to back purge the dispensing unit should it become clogged, to melt any frozen liquid occlusions which may have formed in the cryogen supply line.
