Abstract: The present invention relates to methods of and apparatus for threading the weft thread carriers and may be most effectively used on travelling-wave looms. In this method, the weft thread is introduced into a thread tensioner while the last coil thereof is being wound with gripping before a straight section is formed, after which the thread is shifted by being unwound from a bobbin in the direction of feed, with the carrier admitted into the looming-up zone at this time, this shifting being maintained up to the moment of separation of the straight section from the coils. In an apparatus for realizing this method, there is provided a stationary cam for jaws located in a central angle of a disk within a sector limited by a region of divergence of mechanical trajectories of the disk and a conveyer and a region corresponding to the last turn of the threadguide around its axis which is close to the axis of rotation of the disk and shifted relative to the axis of symmetry of the carrier spool.

Abstract: The roller comprises a core and a shell secured to said core. The shell is made up of two coaxial pipes, i.e. an inner pipe secured to the core in the middle and an outer pipe fastened to the inner pipe in the middle and at the ends. This allows the shell to be made of small-diameter thin-walled pipes thus reducing the roller deflection and decreasing considerably the weight both of the roller proper and of the equipment utilizing said roller.

A gas distributor extends into the interior of this container and includes a plurality of coaxial elongated pipes which have open ends in the interior of the container, an elongated bar extending coaxially along the innermost one of said pipes and also having a free end situated in the interior of the container. The ends of the several pipes which are in the container are open and are enlarged while the inner free end of the bar in the container is also enlarged, and a moving structure is operatively connected with at least one of the pipes as well as the bar for axially moving the same relative to each other so as to adjust the positions of the free end of the bar and the open ends of the pipes with respect to each other.
Abstract: An artificial heart comprising a rigid housing whose dimensions and shape are close to those of the natural heart. A rigid central partition divides the housing into two halves corresponding to the right and left hearts, respectively. Each half is divided by a rigid lateral partition into two chambers. One of these chambers is adjacent to the central partition; this is an auricle chamber. The second chamber is between said auricle chamber and the wall of the housing; this is a ventricle chamber. Each auricle chamber is divided by a flexible diaphragm into two cavities. One of these cavities adjoins the central partition and is intended to contain a working medium. The other cavity adjoins the lateral partition and is intended to receive blood. Each chamber of the ventricle is also divided by a flexible diaphragm into two cavities. One of these cavities adjoins the lateral partition and is intended to receive blood, whereas the second cavity adjoins the housing wall and is intended for the working medium.
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a sheet-metal container the body of which is obtained by forming a metal sheet into a tube; two opposite edges of said metal sheet being thus joined and assembled each other, wherein the improvement consists in that said opposite edges are welded together by the action of a laser beam.

Abstract: A column for heat- and mass exchange between gas or steam and liquid comprises contact plates mounted in a casing in a superposed relation to one another, the plates being divided into sections which comprise individual portions of the contact plate raised above the remaining surface thereof. Apertures are made in the sections for the passage of gas and are provided with arched apron plates extending within each section tangentially to the center thereof and in the same direction in such a manner that rotary motion of two-phase gas and liquid flows in the adjacent sections occurs in opposite directions. The sections are arranged in plan in such a manner that their centers are located substantially over an intersection space of lower contact plates.
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for orienting a plate such as a seed plate in an electrolytic refining plant. While the plate is in a horizontal attitude and connected with a suspending lug which in turn is connected to a supporting rod, the plate is transported by a manufacturing line conveyer to a predetermined location where there is lowered into engagement with the plate a suction structure capable of holding and carrying the plate. The suction structure together with the plate and the supporting rod and suspension lug are raised away from the manufacturing line conveyer to a transfer location where the plate is capable of swinging to an upright attitude while clearing the above conveyer. At the transfer location the suction action of the suction structure is released, and a pair of rod-supporting members are displaced into engagement with opposed ends of the rod to support the latter when the plate is released to swing to its upright attitude, by gravity.
Abstract: A surface grinding method and apparatus wherein workpieces are ground with a ring-shaped grinding wheel having a ring-shaped grinding surface the inner diameter of which is relatively large with respect to the dimensions of the workpieces. The method and apparatus include steps and structure for providing between the workpieces and the ring-shaped grinding wheel a relative movement where the workpieces travel along a substantially cycloidal path with each workpiece having a point at the surface thereof which is ground by the grinding wheel and passes at least twice across the grinding surface between the outside and the inside thereof. To bring about this relative cycloidal movement, the central axis of either of the work-supporting structure or the grinding structure, preferably the work-supporting structure, is displaced around an axis which is parallel to its central axis, while this central axis is simultaneously moved inwardly toward and outwardly away from the axis parallel thereto.
Abstract: A method for manufacturing part of a slide fastener includes the steps of deforming an initially substantially straight filament portion into a filament portion of V-shaped configuration having a pair of legs which meets at a crest of the deformed portion of V-shaped configuration. Simultaneously the deformed V-shaped portion of the filament is compressed at its crest to form a tooth of the slide fastener at this crest of the V-shaped portion. Immediately thereafter the legs of the V-shaped portion are pushed together while situating them in side-by-side relation and while displacing these legs into a tooth gap between a pair of teeth of a rotary gear.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a transparent body, such as a pane of a window, which has a predetermined opacity gradient. A light filtering substance is evaporated in an evacuated atmosphere upwardly from an evaporator to deposit itself upon a surface which is situated over and directed toward this evaporator, the latter surface forming part of a transparent body and the light filtering substance providing for the transparent body an opacity or optical density which increases as the thickness of the deposit of the light-filtering substance on the latter surface increases. The transparent body is maintained stationary in the evacuated atmosphere over the above evaporator during deposition of the evaporated substance onto the body surface which is directed toward the latter location.
