  • Patent number: 4228849
Abstract: Apparatus for controlling the relative rates of flow of gases through a pair of ducts including a bellows chamber defining a substantially enclosed interior and a partition member movably mounted within the chamber dividing the interior thereof into first and second partial volumes which are fluidly sealed from each other. The first partial volume is in fluid communication with a first duct in which a gas flows while the second partial volume is in fluid communication with a second duct in which a gas flows such that a change in the rate of flow of a gas through one of the ducts changes the pressure in the associated partial volume whereby the partition member will move to accommodate the same. A linkage is associated with the partition member for transmitting the movement thereof to a damper located in one of the ducts such that the gas flow opening provided by the damper in the duct is regulated by the extent of movement of the partition member.

  • Patent number: 4229250
Abstract: Properties of mechanical paper pulp which is produced by grinding or otherwise frictionally acting on natural fibrous raw material containing plasticizable constituents which become heated to a temperature sufficiently high to soften the plasticizable constituents thereof are improved by the addition of paper filler material which is chemically inert to the pulp at a time which results in the filler being in contact therewith while the plasticizable constituents are plasticized and thus softened and sticky. This causes the filler, without chemical reaction, to adhere to the plasticized constituents and thus to the fibers of the pulp to result in improved properties of a totally mechanical pulp. The properties which are improved include the optical and printing properties of the paper made from the pulp.

  • Patent number: 4225541
Abstract: The invention relates to contact trays with a self adjusting free section for rectification and absorption tray columns in gas (steam)-fluid systems operating in a wide range of gas (steam) loads. The contact tray comprises a base with apertures in every one of which a valve is mounted providing a one-way outlet of gas and having an upper wall, side walls, and position limiters to define the upper (open) and lower (closed) positions of the valve. Every valve is manufactured from a blank made in the form of a circular sector with a truncated apex, whose peripheral side and segment portions are bent to form side walls of the valve, one of the lower position limiters and the upper wall of the valve. This makes it possible to simplify the technology of manufacturing valves, improve the conditions of operation and raise the efficiency of the tray.

  • Patent number: 4223963
Abstract: The unoccupied space intermediate the races, the rolling bodies and the metal cage of a conventional antifriction bearing is filled with a solidified antifriction compound, with the cage of the conventional bearing being fast with the compound and reinforcing it. An annular gap is provided intermediate the outer race of the bearing and the solidified compound body for removal of the wear products. To manufacture a bearing of this kind, a bearing of the conventional kind is filled with a solidifiable antifriction material, with subsequent thermal treatment. The invention offers a simple, readily implementable and relatively inexpensive technique of adding a new quality to conventional antifriction bearings, viz. the ability of prolonged operation under adverse conditions, without periodic lubrication.

  • Patent number: 4224104
Abstract: A paper machine has a forming wire loop which transports a web to a detachment transfer roll situated inside said wire loop at a detaching location where the web is to be detached from the wire and transported to a press section. A relatively dry felt engages the web on a sector of the detachment transfer roll at the detaching location and receives the web from the wire and continues to transport the web, while it adheres to the felt, to the press section. The detachment of the web from the wire on the detachment transfer roll is facilitated by the centrifugal force acting on the web which results from the substantial change of direction undergone by the web on the detachment transfer roll. In one embodiment, the press felt is directed to cover the web on a sector of the detachment roll by a press suction roll located on substantially the same level as the detachment transfer roll, the press roll having a suction sector which facilitates transfer of the web from the wire to the felt.
