Abstract: Each agent unit gets status information indicating the state of each of network printers connected by a LAN from the network printers every first time period. Whenever each agent unit gets the status information from the network printer, it overwrites a status log data file with the gotten status information. Each agent unit converts all status information stored in the status log data file into status mail of electronic mail and transmits the status mail to a mail server every second time period longer than the first time period. On the other hand, a console unit accesses the mail server and reads the status mail in a proper time period to the console unit.

Abstract: A variable-wavelength semiconductor laser device containing a tapered-stripe semiconductor laser amplifier and a wavelength selection unit. Light emitted from a back end surface of the tapered-stripe semiconductor laser amplifier is incident on the wavelength selection unit. The wavelength selection unit selects a portion of the light having a specific wavelength, and returns the selected portion to the tapered-stripe semiconductor laser amplifier. The tapered-stripe semiconductor laser amplifier amplifies the returned portion of the light to emit the amplified light from a front-end surface of the tapered-stripe semiconductor laser amplifier. The wavelength selection unit is constructed so that the specific wavelength can be changed according to strength of an electric field applied to the wavelength selection unit. An electric field applying unit is provided for applying the electric field to the wavelength selection unit.

Abstract: A printing system of the present invention reduces a total amount of discharge of at least three different color inks that are mixable to express hues in a predetermined range without deteriorating the degree of granularity. The printing system of the invention reads recording ratios of the respective color inks corresponding to input tone data regarding the respective color inks from tables TC, TM, and TY and forms dots according to the recording ratios. Yellow ink Y has a higher dye density than a balancing density that ensures a color balance. This makes the recording ratio of the yellow ink Y lower than the recording ratios of cyan ink C and magenta ink M. The yellow ink Y has high lightness, so that sparely formed dots do not increase the degree of granularity even in an area of low tone data. The enhanced density of the yellow ink Y reduces the total amount of inks discharged from a head to satisfy a required printing density.
