  • Patent number: 7636396
Abstract: Methods to test the operation of the pick-up coil without having to de-energize the power line serving as the power line carrier in order to perform testing on the pick-up coil. A series of test frequencies are introduced and parameters of the pick-up coil can be measured to detect the presence or absence of resonant behavior indicative of the health of the pick-up coil. Testing capabilities may be incorporated into a power line carrier receiver and use the connections between the pick-up coils and the receiver to perform the pick-up coil test. Various methods are disclosed for evaluating the pick-up coil response to a series of test inputs of different frequencies. These methods could be incorporated in a pick-up coil testing device that is independent of a receiver.

  • Patent number: 7632274
Abstract: Cutter blades made of shape memory materials. Rotation of a cutter blade as part of a cutter assembly within an intervertebral disc space cuts the material present there for removal from the intervertebral disc space. Cutter blades with different attributes (such as throw length, cutter blade angle, type and location of blade edges) are adapted to achieve different objectives within the intervertebral disc space. The use of a hollow ground to enhance the cutting action of a blade edge is described in connection with the creation of cutter blades. A variety of thin cutter blades are described which may be used in the interior of a thin intervertebral disc (having a reduced distance between the endplates of the adjacent vertebral bodies).

  • Patent number: 7609784
Abstract: An apparatus and method for use by a receiver in decoding information sent by phase-shift keying over a carrier frequency for use with power line carrier (PLC) applications as it is adapted to appropriately position the sampling window based on a zero crossing of one of the phases of the power line. The method allows for receipt and processing of information on more than one carrier frequency and from transmitters operating on a phase of the power line that is different than the phase used by alternating current at the power grid frequency on the receiver to detect the zero crossings of the power line. Optionally, a threshold parameter may be dynamically adjusted in reaction to the underlying level of noise so as to reduce the number of bursts carrying actual data that are discarded as having only noise. A number of alternative embodiments are included.

  • Patent number: 7601171
Abstract: Spinal motion preservation assemblies adapted for use in a spinal motion segment are disclosed including the process for delivering and assembling the spinal motion preservation assemblies in the spinal motion segment via an axial channel created with a trans-sacral approach. The spinal motion preservation assemblies make use of a dual pivot. A number of different embodiments of spinal motion preservation assemblies are disclosed which include at least one component adapted for elastic deformation under compressive loads. The disclosed mobility preservation assemblies provide for dynamic stabilization (DS) of the spinal motion segment.

  • Patent number: 7595741
Abstract: A driver information system is disclosed for providing driving information to the driver of a vehicle. The system comprises a traffic rule database including traffic rules for geographical regions, a position detecting unit for detecting the actual position of the vehicle, a driving parameter detecting unit for detecting at least one driving parameter of the vehicle, a control unit for extracting relevant traffic rules for the detected vehicle position from the traffic rule database and for comparing the extracted traffic rules to the detected at least one driving parameter in order to detect a traffic rule violation, a traffic rule violation significance judgment unit for judging the significance of a traffic rule violation detected by the control unit and for deciding whether information regarding the detected traffic rule violation is presented to the driver.

  • Patent number: 7570208
Abstract: The present invention provides GPS receivers capable of tracking very weak GPS signals particularly in an indoor environment without assistance from an external server or a network. In a preferred embodiment, a GPS receiver initially acquires and locks onto GPS satellite signals to compute receiver position outdoors. The GPS receiver then tracks at least one satellite signal indoors to maintain acquisition parameters for quick acquisition of GPS signals. To save power, the receiver automatically goes to the sleep state and periodically wakes up, i.e., powers up, to maintain the at least one satellite signal tracking. During the wakeup state, the receiver collects ephemeris data from the at least one satellite signal when the ephemeris data needs to be updated for quick acquisition of GPS signals.
