Abstract: Disclosed herein is a technique for enhanced parameter negotiation in Evolution-Data Optimized (EVDO) communication systems that use Generic Configuration Protocol to negotiate session parameters or session attributes. The technique reduces the number of parameter negotiation cycles involved during the session configuration process. A new AlternateValueAllowed field is added in the attribute record. The Configuration Request message sent by the initiator allows the Configuration Response message responder to send the responder's preferred attribute value to the initiator, when the Configuration Request message does not contain the preferred attribute value of the responder. Such a modified attribute record structure obviates the need for multiple attribute negotiation cycles, and therefore saves session negotiation time.

Abstract: A session integration method is provided for integrating a first session between a first entity and a third entity and a second session between a second entity and the third entity in a session-based service environment. The first entity receives a REFER message including dialog information from the second entity, and sends a response message to the received REFER message to the second entity. When header information included in the received REFER message indicates an INVITE message and the dialog information is related to the first entity, the first entity generates a Re-INVITE message and sends the generated Re-INVITE message to an address of a target which is subject to session integration. The address is included in the header information and corresponds to the third entity. The first entity updates the first session into an integrated session with the third entity.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for transmitting an uplink scheduling request in a mobile communication system. A radio resource controlling node sets a priority for scheduling request retransmission, and cyclically notifies the priority in downlink. A terminal does not retransmit a scheduling request when the highest priority included in the scheduling request to be retransmitted is lower than the lowest priority for scheduling request retransmission. Alternatively, the radio resource controlling node sets scheduling request retransmission cycles (timers) according to priorities, and transmits the cycles in the downlink. The terminal does not retransmit a scheduling request before a cycle (timer) corresponding to the highest priority included in the scheduling request expires after the scheduling request is initially transmitted or retransmitted.

Abstract: Disclosed are a method and apparatus for measurement report for the decision of transmission mode transition that obtain a threshold value of reporting CQI_difference of all frequency sub-bands; measure a CQI value at each CQI reporting frequency sub-band of whole frequency band in each measure time interval; determine a CQI_difference value based on the measured CQI value of each CQI reporting frequency sub-band; and compare the determined CQI_difference value with the threshold value, if a condition is satisfied, then the UE sends the determined CQI_difference value to the BS. After the UE has reported this measurement report to the BS, the BS may choose a more suitable data transmission mode for the UE based on this measurement report to make data transmission more effective.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing call details using speech recognition are provided. To manage call details, incoming and outgoing voice signals during a call are converted into their written equivalent by speech recognition technology. The details of the call, including the conversation, are stored in text form so that a user can search for them when needed. Accordingly, the user can easily retrieve what was spoken during calls and systematically manage desired information by searching or sorting the call details.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for acquiring a remote name in a Bluetooth system are provided. The method for acquiring a remote name in a Bluetooth system includes performing an inquiry request to adjacent Bluetooth devices; sorting Bluetooth devices found during the inquiry request in order of Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI); reducing a page timeout during a remote name acquisition; and acquiring a remote name according to the sorted RSSI.
Abstract: A method and system for processing a message in an Internet protocol-based mobile communication system supporting a multimedia service. In the system, application servers include a representative application server and multiple backend application servers. A method for defining a control message between application servers to set up a session using the standard Internet protocol is provided. When an application server performs a call processing operation, control message processing load and control message transmission delay is reduced.
Abstract: A digital broadcast receiver and data broadcast content processing method for the same are disclosed. The method includes receiving and displaying contents of a broadcast web site (BWS); selecting a displayed content for storage; storing the content selected for storage in a state existing at the time of selection; selecting a stored content for reproduction; and reproducing the content selected for reproduction. As a result, the user can store desired broadcast content in a memory unit during viewing of BWS contents, and reproduce desired content stored in the memory unit on a screen when necessary.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for estimating a velocity of a Mobile Station (MS) in a mobile communication system are provided, in which a Base Station (BS) receives a Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) measured by the MS, calculates a decision metric by calculating variations in the CQI for a predetermined time period, and estimates the velocity of the MS based on the decision metric, referring to a velocity table in which decision metrics are mapped to mobile velocities.

Abstract: A method for destructively reading out data from a stolen or lost mobile phone. A special switch off feature disables all the services associated with the mobile phone, except for a messaging service and the ability to destructively read out data. A user can retrieve the data stored in the mobile phone from a remote location. Once the data is retrieved, all the data in the mobile phone is erased.
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for estimating a symbol timing offset in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) based communication system are provided. A Carrier to Interference Ratio (CIR) of an Reference Signal (RS) is acquired using received pilot signals. The RS CIR includes power information on channel components of the RS. A CIR of a Secondary Synchronization Channel (S-SCH) is acquired using the received pilot signals. The S-SCH CIR includes power information on channel components of the S-SCH. Unnecessary channel components are suppressed from the RS CIR using the S-SCH CIR. Real channel components of the RS remain. An observation window is set having a predetermined duration for windowing the real channel components of the RS. A first arriving channel component is searched for within the observation window. A start point of data is estimated using the first arriving channel component.
Abstract: Disclosed is a packet routing method in an ad-hoc network. The method includes periodically calculating a link stability with respect to each neighbor node by means of the number of beacon frames lost within an update period for each neighbor node, updating the calculated link stability in the neighbor node table; identifying a neighbor node which is closer to a destination node of a received packet than the node when the node itself does not correspond to the destination node; and transmitting the received packet to the identified neighbor node when the identified link stability of the neighbor node is greater than or equal to a threshold value.
Abstract: A system and method for performing Scheduling Assignments (SAs) for User Equipments (UEs) at a base station of a communication system by accounting for the different operating conditions UEs may experience or for the different data rates or data packet sizes UEs may require. This reduces a total size of SAs by introducing compact SAs, in addition to full SAs. For compact SAs, the range for the resource allocation or for the spectral efficiency of the signal transmission is restricted or some fields that exist in the full SA are eliminated without adversely impacting scheduling flexibility or system throughput. By reducing the total size of SAs through the use of compact SAs, the corresponding control signaling overhead is reduced, which improves system throughput, improves scheduling flexibility, or improves coverage.
