Patent number: 8263276Abstract: A method for starting up a fuel cell arrangement includes receiving a first electrical signal from an alternative power source. At least a portion of the first electrical signal is provided to a balance of plant (BOP) load, where the BOP load is in electrical communication with a fuel cell system. It is determined whether a startup threshold of the fuel cell system is met. If the startup threshold is met, a second electrical signal is provided from the fuel cell system to the BOP load, where a combination of the first electrical signal and the second electrical signal corresponds to a load demand of the BOP load. A value of the second electrical signal is increased and a value of the first electrical signal is decreased until the load demand of the BOP load is met by the fuel cell system.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2009Date of Patent: September 11, 2012Assignee: Bloom Energy CorporationInventors: Ranganathan Gurunathan, Srinivasan Vijay Sarathy, Ramesh Srinivasan

Patent number: 8260709Abstract: A method for securing patient medical information for communication over a potentially vulnerable system includes separating patient's medical file into a demographics layer and a data layer, separately encrypting the demographic layer and data layer using different encryption keys, and providing servers in a communication and processing system with a decryption key for the layer processed by such server. Medical file data may be separated into more than two layers. Users accessing the system are authenticated using standard techniques. By separately encrypting different parts of a patient medical record, processing and communication of patient medical files by intermediary servers is enabled without risking disclosure of sensitive patient information if such servers are compromised.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2011Date of Patent: September 4, 2012Assignee: mVisum, Inc.Inventors: Seema Holla, Praveen Dala-Krishna

Patent number: 8260941Abstract: The detection of devices with duplicate media access controller (MAC) addresses in a cable network may be accomplished by reference to a value indicative of a DOCSIS version supported by the device or by reference to a having a MAC address/giaddr pair. Where a version value is used, the detection of devices having duplicate MAC addresses looks for changes in the reported version value from a higher version to a lower version. Where MAC address/giaddr pairs are used, a centralized storage of historical cable modem MAC address/giaddr pair data is used to identify cable modems (CM's) that report duplicate MAC addresses. If duplication is detected, an appropriate remedial response is taken.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 2007Date of Patent: September 4, 2012Assignee: Time Warner Cable, Inc.Inventors: Andrew Danforth, Kenneth Gould, Christopher Williams

Patent number: 8239506Abstract: A subscriber access control system (SACS) configures a network device connected to cable network to affect the behavior of that device. The SACS comprises a rules engine and a datastore that stores the current state of subscribers known to the SACS and historical request information. When the SACS receives a request to quarantine a device, it assigns attributes to a subscriber record accessed by a DHCP server to affect the configuration and behavior of that device. The actual behavior of the quarantined device is determined by the presence of the attribute and the value of the attribute.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2009Date of Patent: August 7, 2012Assignee: Time Warner Cable, Inc.Inventors: Andrew Danforth, William Webb, Michael Dillon
