  • Patent number: 4638367
Abstract: A light metering system for obtaining a light value by scanning the brightness distribution of the object space within a predetermined field of view. Of the thus-produced brightness signals, those which correspond to a particular target area in the view-field are given respective predetermined weights. The light value is derived on the basis of these weighted signals and the remaining signals.

  • Patent number: 4637242
Abstract: A locator device for a tool with crimping dies for cable shoes has at least one track for accommodating the contact portion of the cable shoe, a stationary stop at the end of the track and a movable stop at a selected location along the track. For treating cable shoes with longer contact portions, the movable stop is lifted from the track so that the stationary stop is operative, and when treating cable shoes with shorter contact portions the movable stop is put in place. The device is preferably made as a readily mountable accessory to the crimping tool.

  • Patent number: 4636882
Abstract: A video signal reproducing apparatus adapted for reproducing a composite signal formed by superimposing four kinds of pilot signals of different frequencies upon a video signal one after another in a predetermined rotation, one upon each portion of the video signal for a predetermined period, from many recording tracks formed with the composite signal at evenly spaced intervals on a recording medium, comprises: (a) a reproducing head tracing the above recording tracks; (b) reference signal generating apparatus capable of selectively generating in the above predetermined rotation, four kinds of reference signals of different frequencies substantially the same as the frequencies of the four kinds of pilot signals; (c) moving apparatus for moving the recording medium in a direction intersecting the recording track; (d) detecting apparatus for detecting the positional error of the reproducing head relative to the recording track by using a reference signal selected from one of the four kinds of reference signals

  • Patent number: 4636042
Abstract: A mechanical mounting for a zoom lens having a tubular body in which is rotatably fitted a cam sleeve for controlling the axial movements of optical elements contributing to a zooming action. In order to keep the axial position of the cam sleeve relative to the body tube with a high precision accuracy as it rotates about the optical axis, a restraining mechanism is constructed in the form of rollers radially extending from the cam sleeve into a fitted circumferential interior recess of the body tube.

  • Patent number: 4636123
Abstract: An expansion anchor assembly includes an expansion sleeve formed at least in part by axially extending extension sections, an expansion body and an anchor rod attached to the expansion body. By pulling the expansion body into the end of the sleeve formed by the expansion sections, the sections are spread radially outwardly. An axially extending part of the outside surface of the expansion body is formed by a plurality of outwardly tapering axially extending and circumferentially adjacent convex surfaces having an arc shape in the direction transverse to the axial direction of the expansion body. The radius of curvature of each arc-shaped convex surface is the same over its axial length. Each expansion section of the sleeve has an axially extending radially inner concave surface corresponding to one of the arc-shaped convex surfaces on the expansion body.

  • Patent number: 4636283
Abstract: In the distillation of fresh water from sea water, the sea water is passed ownwardly in a falling film evaporator through a multiplicity of vertical tube evaporator (VTE) stages and multiple stage flash (MSF) evaporators. After the sea water passes through the first VTE stage where it forms a liquid component and a steam component, the liquid component is distributed evenly into the next VTE stage while the steam component enters an adjoining MSF stage. Condensed fresh water flows downwardly from one MSF stage to the next and experiences flash evaporation. The sea water or brine component and the fresh water distillate flow downwardly through the VTE and MSF stages so that the brine component can be removed from the final VTE stage and the fresh water distillate from the final MSF stage.

  • Patent number: 4634399
Abstract: A coil-shaped body is used to transmit torque between shafts spaced axially apart and with the shaft axes disposed angularly to one another. Such an arrangement is used in a bent steering column for a safety steering mechanism. The coil-shaped body is formed by winding a plastics material impregnated fiber strand around an axially extending mandrel so that the layers of the strand are in crossing relation. The crossing superposed layers form lattice bars between the crossover points of the body. The lattice rods have a radial dimension greater than the length of the strands. The angle of the lattice rods relative to the axis of the coil-shaped body is greater than 55.degree..

  • Patent number: 4634094
Abstract: A shutoff valve includes a pivotably displaceable flap shaped cutoff part mounted in a flow passageway through a housing. The flap shaped cutoff part is relatively thin so that in the fully open position it does not appreciable reduce the flow passageway cross-section. The cutoff part is pivotably supported at one point in the housing wall and at a diagonally opposite it is supported by a combination of a guide pin and a sliding guide. An actuator located outside the flow passageway is connected to the cutoff part for displacing it between the closed and opened positions. The actuator includes a piston cylinder unit connected to a shifter rod. The shifter rod effects the movement of the guide pin in the sliding guide so that the cutoff part is pivoted about an axis extending transversely of the axis of the flow passageway between the closed and opened positions.

  • Patent number: 4633540
Abstract: A tie member includes at least one tension element, such as a steel wire or strand, enclosed within a tubular sheathing. An anchoring unit is located at each end of the tie member for transmitting the tension force to a part of a structure. Each anchoring unit includes an anchor plate with at least one conically shaped bore so that a tension element can be secured in the borehole by a multi-part annular wedge. To provide additional corrosion protection and improve fatigue strength in the anchorage, the tension element is enclosed within a coating of a synthetic resin for its entire length. The inside surface of the wedge is shaped between the ends with a series of coarse or rough teeth with the tips rounded off.
