  • Patent number: 5767976
Abstract: A laser diode gas sensor for the spectroscopic measurement of a gas sample, with a retroreflector and a concave mirror, which define between them an open measuring path with the gas to be analyzed. Laser light passes through the measuring path, is reflected at the retroreflector, and is directed toward a detector via a concave mirror in order to determine the mean concentration of the gas component to be analyzed in the optical measuring path. Optical elements, such as beam splitters, lenses, etc., which lead to losses of intensity, were used before to couple the laser light into the beam path onto the retroreflector, and to decouple the reflected light to the detector. An improved optical imaging array, which minimizes losses, is provided. The concave mirror is provided centrally with an opening transparent to the laser light, through which a weakly divergent bundle of laser light is directed onto the retroreflector, so that the retroreflector is illuminated essentially over its entire surface.

  • Patent number: 5765360
Abstract: Cooling of engine walls with fuel, wherein the walls have a structure which has an inner wall, to which hot gas is admitted during the operation, a colder outer wall, as well as a plurality of webs which connect the walls and divide the hollow space present there into a plurality of cooling ducts. The fuel is introduced in the cold state into the wall structure, is delivered through the cooling ducts while absorbing heat via the inner wall, and is subsequently used to generate thrust.A hot fluid flow taken from the engine is admitted during the operation from the outside to the "cold" outer wall of the wall structure, through which fuel flows, and this "cold" outer wall thermally expands as a result, or its thermal contraction is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5765549
Abstract: A respirator to be worn in front of the chest with regeneration of the breathing air, containing a regenerating cartridge with a plurality of chemical layers, a breathing bag, a connection piece on the side of the breathing bag located opposite the regenerating cartridge, a breathing hose pointing from the connection piece to the user, and an oxygen-releasing starting device at the regenerating cartridge. The supply of oxygen into the breathing bag and the wear properties are improved by the breathing bag being designed as a bag lying flat on the regenerating cartridge and having a ring-shaped hose part, which can be laid around the neck of the user. This provides a neck opening formed within the breathing bag. An opening is provided in the chemical layer located opposite the breathing bag. A starting device is accommodated in this opening such that it is in flow connection with a collector chamber opening into the breathing bag.

  • Patent number: 5763792
Abstract: A respiratory flow sensor to be connected between a breathing tube and an endotracheal catheter, which has a flow channel, an orifice, which is formed by a foil recessed in the flow tube, in which an orifice flap is formed by an incision, and has connections to the flow channel on both sides of the orifice to pick up the pressure difference generated over the orifice. The respiratory flow sensor is reusable and makes possible accurate measurement even at low flow rates and low pneumatic resistance. The foil is a metal foil, which is interrupted by a central incision in the area carrying the orifice flap to form two hinge elements which are narrow compared with the width of the orifice flap. A first flow rectifier is arranged in the flow channel between the orifice flap and the connection for the endotracheal catheter.

  • Patent number: 5762468
Abstract: A process and to a device for protecting a turbocompressor from operating in the unstable working range by means of a blow-off device, wherein a control parameter is determined from measured values for the compressor flow, the compressor final pressure and the temperature measurement, as well as from preset or presettable desired values, and controlled opening of the blow-off fittings is performed by a pump surge limiter by means of a pneumatic actuating device each on the basis of the said control parameter. The measured values for the temperature, flow and pressure entered into the pump surge limiter are coupled with a dynamic blow-off line. The blow-off fittings are operated in sequence, and the control signals for the quick opening of the blow-off fittings are first sent to a small blow-off fitting, and then to a large blow-off fitting after the opening of the small blow-off fitting. In cooperation with the dynamic blow-off line, the pump surge limiter provides for continuous control, i.e.

  • Patent number: 5758801
Abstract: A dispenser for free-flowing substances, fine granular substances, powdered substances or beaded substances where a radial surface of the container is formed by a coil spring with a plurality of turns. The plurality of turns are positioned to be in contact with each other and the coil spring has a biasing force which presses the plurality of turns against each other. The position and biasing force of the coil spring are such to block the passing of the substance from inside the coil spring, through the plurality of turns, and towards the outside of the coil spring. Closing devices are fitted into the ends of the coil spring to prevent the substance inside the coil spring from moving out of the coil spring through the axial ends of the coil spring. The closing devices are preferably designed to be repetitively attachable and detachable without significant damage to the spring or the closing device.

  • Patent number: 5758906
Abstract: The socket has an essentially cylindrical outer layer of glass fiber-reinforced plastic and a sealing sleeve arranged in a recess in the outer layer. This sealing sleeve has, between the two socket ends, a rib serving as a stop for the ends of the two pipes to be connected to one another. Here, the outer layer forms a first and a second hollow cylindrical, dimensionally stable edge section, the first of which is substantially longer than the second. That end of such a socket which is formed by the longer edge section can be pushed relatively easily onto a first pipe and can also be nondetachably bonded thereto by means of an adhesive. The second pipe having the same diameter can then be inserted into the socket end formed by the shorter edge section. Here, the relatively short edge section makes it possible to insert the second pipe into the socket with a tight seal even when the axes of socket and pipe do not coincide but make a small angle with one another.
