The device includes structure for the generation of electromagnetic radiation and conveying structure to convey the electromagnetic radiation to the movable body. The movable body has a plurality of markings which modulate the electromagnetic radiation in relation to movement of the movable body. Another conveying structure conveys the modulated electromagnetic radiation away from the movable body and to a processing unit which determines the length of the object being measured from the modulated electromagnetic radiation.

Abstract: A computer network system containing a concentrator with a backplane that has a plurality of lines. The backplane contains data lines and control lines for managing and organizing the transfer of data between modules in the concentrator. The system contains intelligent devices that allow the selection of transmitting modules to occur at the same time as actual data transfer is going on between other modules. This is preferably done in a round robin arbitration process where, while data is being transferred by a first module, a bus arbitration device is placing addresses of modules which sequentially follow the transmitting module onto the control lines. Modules will see their address on the control lines, and if they have a packet to transmit, they then reserve the right to transmit after the presently transmitting module is finished. In this way the selection of the next module to transmit is performed in parallel, and does not slow down, the transfer of data between modules.

Advantageously, the connecting elements (7) each exhibit a first bent end forming a helical spring (7A) intended to be inserted in a corresponding hole (LF) of the respective lens (L); the locking means comprise, for each lens, a screw (15) inserted coaxially in said spring.

Abstract: A tooth imitation intended for application to naturally grown teeth or a correspondingly shaped denture. To make it possible for the user to use the tooth imitation without health hazard and to provide a tooth imitation which has a simple design and is easy to use, provisions are made for making the tooth imitation out of materials which are nearly completely digestible in the gastrointestinal tract in the form of a hollow body which can be directly molded onto the naturally grown teeth or the denture.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process ad device for packing pressed bales of cut or stranded textile fibers in a bale press with one or more elastic packing blanks which are wrapped and secured around the bales. The packing blanks are overlapped and bonded together at the contact point adhesively or by welding. Use is made for this purpose of multi-layer packing blanks with a retaining structure and, at least locally, a weldable and/or adhesive coating, the coatings of the packing blanks being brought into mutual contact. Bonding is achieved by pressure and/or heat.

Hooks extending in parallel to the central axis of the steering wheel are arranged at the bottom of the housing, and a matching number of pretensioned leg springs are arranged on the skeleton of the steering wheel, with one of their legs being firmly clamped in a bracket releasing a guide window for the hook such that the free leg of the spring is located in the area of the guide window and consequently in the path of insertion of the hook.

Abstract: The present invention pertains to a vertical blind with a crank rod for horizontally displacing and for pivoting the slats, which can each be pivoted by approximately 180.degree. in both directions up to a common plane by a pivoting gear in a slat carriage, which is horizontally movable in a support rail, about a vertical pivoting axis, wherein the crank rod can be coupled with a driving wheel, which is mounted in an end carriage and which is arranged on a pivot shaft, which meshes with a toothed wheel of the pivoting gear in the slat carriage in an axially displaceable manner, but in a manner adapted to rotate in unison. The toothed wheel can be moved about a toothed wheel approximately 180.degree. from one side of the common plane of the slats to the opposite side in a curved guide, which is arranged at the end carriage.

Abstract: A sewing or embroidering machine is provided with a thread-cutting device and a signal transmitter representing the angular position of the arm shaft. The drive of the catch thread device is acted upon as a function of the signals generated by the signal transmitter according to a movement program stored in a memory. The path data of this movement program are in a defined relation to the rotary movement or the current angular position of the hook. The drive of the catch thread device is part of a regulating device operating as a cascade control or of a control device operating as a path plan control. Due to the exact agreement in time between the movement process of the catch thread device and the course of the rotary movement of the hook, the thread-cutting process can now also be carried out during the phase of deceleration of the sewing machine, so that an inexpensive, uncontrolled motor can now be used to drive the sewing machine.

Abstract: The new-type conduit fitting has at least a first, a second and a third part, through each part passes a hole which allows the parts to be pushed axially over the cable. The first part can be connected to a housing in an electrically conductive manner and can be axially tensioned with the third part. The second part is electrically conductive, and it reduces the cross section of its hole with increasing axial tensioning between the first and third parts. The hole of the first part expands conically against the second part, wherein the second part is a annular sleeve with a sheathing surface conically tapering against the first part and with a cylindrical inner surface, and the development of the annular sleeve has a shape meandering in a zigzag pattern. A fourth part formed as a rubber sleeve is positioned around the cable, and a fifth part formed as a union nut compresses the rubber sleeve between the union nut and the third part.

Abstract: A game wherein characters are defined to form a data pool. Each character in the data pool is related to and distinguished from the other characters in the data pool by a geographic location data. The data preferably includes actual information such as geographic information, city, country(the character is present in), maps, house plans etc. However, the data can also be fictitious, such as imaginary worlds with imaginary cites towns etc. The character data may be presented to the player for review or interaction to further develop the character. The characters may be randomly selected from the data pool to simulate the possibility/probability of living at the locations corresponding to the data. Several characters may be provided in sequence, each with a potentially different date and location data.

Abstract: A process and a device for avoiding regulator instabilities in surge limit regulators for protecting a turbocompressor from surging if a high proportional gain is selected for the surge limit regulator by a blow-off via a blow-off valve. The control of the velocity of closing of the blow-off valve over time is performed by a gradient limiter of asymmetric design, wherein no velocity limitation acts in the opening direction, but a freely parameterizable velocity limitation of the closing process of the blow-off valve is provided in the closing direction. The gradient limiter is inserted between the surge limit regulator, which receives the control signals on the actual value of flow and the desired value of flow from a subtracter, and the control line for a pneumatic or hydraulic operating device of the blow-off valve.
