  • Patent number: 4866795
Abstract: The present invention concerns a piece of seating furniture convertible to bed, comprising a stationary body (1) and at least one articulated frame (2) attached to the body and consisting of a rear back part (3) and a front back part (4) and of a seat part (5) carried on a carriage (14) by means of levers (7, 13). The invention is characterized in that the rear part (3) of the back of the articulated frame (2) is significantly shorter than the front part (4) of its back and, by the intermediate of a further frame part (9), pivotably attached to the stationary body (1) around a transverse shaft (10) provided in the rear part of the body (1), the said further frame part (9) being prevented by stop members (11) from being pivoted to below the horizontal plane. At the front end of the seat part (5), a foot rest (8) in itself known is provided, which can be affected and folded out by means of the position of the levers (7, 13).

  • Patent number: 4867084
Abstract: In a sewing machine with a needle bar executing transverse motions and with a pressing arrangement whose foot can be lowered onto the work piece laterally with regard to its central position when the needle bar executes lateral movements, the presser arrangement and its drive connection to the needle bar is executed so that a minimal moment of inertia is exerted on the needle bar when driving the pressure arrangement and so that the pressure foot always generates a load evenly spread over the pressed surface, independent of the width of its lateral movements. For this purpose the presser foot is movable in transverse direction relative to the other parts of the pressing arrangement and it is guided parallel to the work piece surface by a guiding arrangement. The transverse movement of the presser arrangement is taken from the transverse movement of the needle bar by a driving connection.

  • Patent number: 4867520
Abstract: An optical multiplexer is disclosed which comprises three waveguides, one for admitting or emitting light and two for receiving light. Each waveguide has an end face. One of the receiving waveguides has an optical layer on its end face which is disposed at an angle to the optical axis of that waveguide. The waveguides are juxtaposed so that their optical axes intersect substantially at the end face of the one receiving waveguide. The optical layer transmits part of the light into the one receiving waveguide. The remainder of the light is reflected into the other receiving waveguide. The intervening space at least partly bounded by the end faces of the waveguides have an index of refraction different from the waveguides themselves.

  • Patent number: 4863660
Abstract: A plurality of parallel layers of fibers are laid in two crossed directions on a disposable support mandrel, pins are temprorarily implanted in the mandrel (15) composed of foam material in regions of evolution of its shape and at points where it is desired to change the direction of the fiber, a continuous thread (33) is stretched out between the pins so as to form crossed superimposed layers, and a continuous fiber (50) is introduced by means of a needle (43) through the layers and forms successive open loops (53). The loops (53) are maintained by the elastic pressure exerted by the foam material and the gripping action of said layers. The fibers are impregnated with a binder and the binder is hardened and the mandrel is destroyed.

  • Patent number: 4858976
Abstract: A suction holder for workpieces comprises a suction plate of flexible material which is open towards the workpiece on which it is to be placed. A connector extending away from the workpiece from the central part of the suction plate contains a suction duct opening into the suction chamber so that the latter may be connected with the vacuum line. There is a sensor plate adjacent to the suction plate with a spacing between them and there is also a free annular gap between them opening to the outside. On placing the holder on the workpiece the suction plate is deformed towards the sensor plate and rests against it. In the suction duct there is a check valve closing towards the suction chamber and loaded so as to be normally closed. The annular gap and the suction chamber are connected independently from the check valve via a sensor duct with the suction duct section over the check valve. The cross section of the two sensor ducts is smaller than that of the orifice part of the suction duct.
