  • Patent number: 4890948
Abstract: The accident prevention guard is intended for homokinetic--as well as wide-angle--joints which have an end fork, an inner fork and a central body. The guard is made up of a shell structure for the protection of the central body, held through two annular supports by the central body and able to freely rotate with respect thereto. It is completed with an end cone for the shaft guard, suitable for completing the overlap on the side of the inner fork. The shell structure is made up of two parts, matched to each other along a plane transverse to the axis of the central body; each of the parts is made to rest on and engage with the body of the homokinetic wide-angle joint so as to maintain--as sole freedom degree--the rotation about the axis of the same body.

  • Patent number: 4889405
Abstract: Optical wave guides are interconnected with the use of two interfitting shell parts which when fitted together form a continuous tubular channel for receiving the wave guides between there. For this purpose a carrier shell part is provided with a continuous longitudinal groove of a size to accommodate a cover shell part and each part has a longitudinally extending receiving channel portion of complementary form which fit together and form a continuous receiving channel for the optical wave guides which are to be interconnected. After the wave guides are placed end to end in the longitudinally extending wave guide receiving channels defined in the carrier shell, a cover shell is engaged over the carrier shell in a manner which positions it complementary optical wave guide channel with the wave guide channel defined on the carrier shell portion. Wave guide channels are advantageously made with curved up portions at respective ends of the interfitting carrier shell and cover shell.

  • Patent number: 4889772
Abstract: For some applications of slide layers, for example in connecting rod bearings of internal combustion engines, for individual sites of a formed piece, high load bearing capability are required while for other places of the same formed piece good embedding abilities are demanded. A composite material with a slide layer applied by cathode sputtering of a tightly cohesive matrix and an insoluble component distributed statistically in it, is adapted to these opposite demands in that the diameter of the particle of the insoluble material has gradients at predetermined sites, which extend parallel to the surface of the slide layer, and to which slide layer hardness gradients correspond. These gradients are generated during the cathode sputtering process in the substrate to be coated to form a growing slide layer having temperature gradients which are maintained and which extend parallel to the substrate surface.

  • Patent number: 4887858
Abstract: In order to individually pick up and temporarily hold hosiery permeable articles, especially tubular articles like panty-hoses and stockings, and instantaneously stretch apart their elastic edges their automatic transfer, a holding device with adhesive and an air jet is utilized. The device includes a tape motorized to advance with intermittence between two elements provided for driving and tensioning the tape, and with a block for the support of the holding zone of the tape and an underlying support for more articles in overlapping relationship to form a stack.Nozzles for supplying jets for compressed air are located adjacent and perpendicularly oriented to the holding zone of the article, and in such a way as to act in a direction opposite to that of the retention force of the adhesive tape, thereby to pass through the article stretching out the elastic edge of the article as soon as this has moved away from the relevant support.

  • Patent number: 4886425
Abstract: A capacity control device controls an amount of fluid bypassed from a compression chamber formed between contacts of a stationary and revolving spiral elements into a suction chamber by an actuator. The capacity control device provides a feedback mechanism in which a relation between a suction pressure of the compressor and a pressure of actuating the actuator is a function of the first degree and controls the suction pressure to be constant. A capacity control amount of the compressor can be determined only by the suction pressure of the compressor independent of other variation factors. Accordingly, the minimum suction pressure can be restricted strictly and frost control can be attained by the compressor itself.

  • Patent number: 4881869
Abstract: In a throat stopper for shaft furnaces, in particular blast furnaces with two hoppers of which an upper hopper is rotatable through a drive device, the upper hopper is designed, by a stationary hood equipped with charging flap valves, as a sluice chamber to be closed pressureproof. For sealing the stationary hood relative to the rotatable upper hopper, there is disposed, at the hood, a peripheral flexible inflatable bellows. The bellows can be pressed against the wall of the upper hopper pneumatically or hydraulically. While material is being charged in the upper hopper, one of the charging valves is open and the bellows is pressureless. During, or shortly after, the charging, the uppr hopper is rotated. For filling the lower hopper, the valves of the upper hopper are closed, bellows is inflated, and the upper sluice chamber is pressurized.

  • Patent number: 4881077
Abstract: A radar arrangement which is particularly useful for the terrain following radar of an aircraft avoids disturbances from rain echoes by utilizing an antenna arrangement with a transmitting/receving directional antenna which is circularly polarized. A supplementary receiving antenna of orthogonally-circularly polarized type is used in conjunction with the directional antenna. From a comparison of the signal level distinctions is made between a target and a rain echo. The rain echo can thus be suppressed to give a truer target signal.
