Abstract: Spectrographic instruments at remote site locations measure near infrared absorbance spectra for unknown materials and transmit the absorbance spectra to a central web site where, the measurements are standardized to be the same as if they were measured by a master instrument. The standardized absorbance spectra are then compared with a library of spectra stored at the central web site to select a subset of absorbance spectra from the library which most closely correlate with the absorbance spectrum received from the remote sites. The library spectra are obtained from measurements on materials, the measurable characteristics of which are known. From the selected subset, equations are developed relating the measurable characteristics of the unknown material to the absorbance spectra and from these equations, the measurable characteristics of the unknown materials are determined. The results of this analysis are then transmitted back to the remote site locations electronically.
Abstract: The method of moving a turntable in an apparatus for molding and punching out containers from a thermoplastic plastic foil by a differential pressure is to be executed such that relatively-small gravitational forces occur as the end positions of the pivoting movement are approached. In this way, the apparatus can be operated with a high stroke number, and not necessitate complicated curved paths. This is attained through the reduction of the distance between the center of gravity of the unit comprising the turntable and the lower tool half and a fixed pivot point in the first half of the pivoting angle during the pivoting of the turntable, with the distance being increased again in the second half of the pivoting angle. This change in position supports the accelerating or braking of the turntable.
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus suitable for use in the treatment of liquid 31, comprising a high voltage electric discharge device 8 with spaced apart first second electrodes 24,25. The discharge device has electrical power supply control means 13 for applying a series of high voltage pulses across said first and second electrodes 24,25 50 as to produce an extended area electrical discharge in an electric discharge zone 37 extending between said first and second electrodes. The apparatus also has a gas delivery means 14-18,29 for feeding a series of bubbles 36 of gas into the liquid in said electric discharge zone. The present invention also provides methods of producing an electrical discharge in a liquid and of decontaminating water and other liquids using the apparatus of the invention.

Abstract: A robot arm mechanism includes a handling member for supporting and handling an object, a robot arm made up of at least four arm links, and a robot arm driving mechanism for driving the robot arm to assume its contracted and extended position. The robot arm comprises first and second arm links and a link retaining mechanism pivotably retaining the first and second arm links. The link retaining mechanism comprises first and second joint cross linkages similar in shape and each having two arms crossed to each other. The first joint cross linkage is integrally connected with one of the first and second arm links of the robot arm. The second joint cross linkage is integrally connected with the other one of the first and second arm links of the robot arm.
Abstract: A control system for a group of fiber processing machines includes a superordinated control console; and separate machine-specific control consoles connected to each respective fiber processing machine. The superordinated control console and the machine-specific control consoles are connected to one another by control and regulating devices via a network. The superordinated control console includes a stationary unit having arrangements for supplying current, for communicating with said network, for storing and administering data, and a computer. The superordinated control console further includes a mobile unit having an operating and displaying unit.
Abstract: A fiber processing system includes a first roll; a feed tray forming a feeding device with the first roll and defining a clamping location therewith for clamping and advancing fiber material; a second roll cooperating with the feeding device for taking over the fiber material therefrom at a transfer location on the second roll; a third roll cooperating with the second roll for taking over the fiber material from the second roll; and an adjusting arrangement for varying a distance between the clamping and transfer locations. The adjusting arrangement includes a pivoting device for arcuately displacing the second roll about the rotary axis of the first or the third roll; and a shifting device for displacing the feeding device toward or away from the third roll.
Abstract: A first guard ring formed by high concentration ion diffusion is established around the transistor formation region of the semiconductor substrate. A second guard ring is established around the first guard ring with a prescribed gap therebetween. A metal film is formed opposing to each guard ring with an insulating film interposed therebetween; these metal films are connected to the opposing guard rings by interlayer wires. The metal films are each connected to external terminals providing a standard potential by individual metal wires from their respective electrodes.
Abstract: In an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network, ATM cells received are classified to the queues appropriate to the service classes required by the ATM cells. The status registers manage the controlled delay of the ATM cells for the service classes and the queue length of the ATM cells which queue up in the queues. On the basis of the controlled delay and the queue length, the scheduler adaptively determines a weight, on the basis of which the ATM cells queuing up in the queues are to be forwarded to thereby effectively control the delay of ATM cells to be forwarded.
Abstract: A system and method for detecting an impulse radio signal obtains a template pulse train and a received impulse radio signal. The system compares the template pulse train and the received impulse radio signal to obtain a comparison result. The system performs a threshold check on the comparison result. If the comparison result passes the threshold check, the system locks on the received impulse radio signal. The system may also perform a quick check, a sychronization check, and/or a command check of the impulse radio signal.

Abstract: A method for building a continuous water seal, creep line increasing cutoff includes the steps of forming spaced borings into the soil in the presence of slurry; developing narrow slots between the formed borings by driving foil boards with cutting edges secured to the bottom therof between adjacent formed borings; and connecting adjacent foil board, which extend between and are recessed into a side of the borings, by means of compensating joint-pins. The steps of developing narrow slots and connecting adjacent foil boards are repeated so that the last boring is connected to the connected, recessecd foil boards forming the cutoff. A prefered embodiment of the invention may include armoring the borings by injecting concrete in the place of the slurry.
Abstract: A system for measuring unevenness formed by grooves and/or long waves in a surface of an object by using a measuring platform. The system moves the object and the measuring platform relative to each other and projects from the measuring platform a light streak that extends in a direction of the movement onto a surface of the object at a fixed projection angle that is tilted relative to a surface normal of the surface. The light streak is reproduced on a planar, position-sensitive photo receiver with a plurality of successive instantaneous exposures of the photo receiver, where the photo receiver is fixedly arranged on the measuring platform with a recording angle that is tilted relative to the fixed projection angle. The system records the surface along the direction of the movement with a plurality of continuous light-streak images and determines a surface profile of the surface along the direction of the movement from deformations in the plurality of the light-streak images.
Abstract: A color-bar signal generation unit compatible with a plurality of television signal formats is provided. The color-bar signal generation unit in accordance with the present invention includes first, second, and third color-bar signal generators for generating a color-bar signal that represents a 16:9 aspect ratio color-bar test pattern, and a color-bar signal switch for switching outputs of the generators. The color-bar signal is structured to contain a 75% color-bar signal and 100% color-bar signals. The 75% color-bar signal represents a portion of the color-bar test pattern defined with an aspect ratio of 4:3 and serves as an NTSC color-bar signal. The 100% color-bar signals represent portions of the color-bar test pattern outside the portion with the aspect ratio of 4:3 and serve as components of an HD color-bar signal. Consequently, the color-bar signal can be used in common for the HD format stipulating the aspect ratio of 16:9 and the NTSC format stipulating the aspect ratio of 4:3.

Abstract: A method for producing stand-up blister packages, and in particular a stable, easy-to-fill stand-up blister package that has no undercut of the blister dome, and can be produced with a high cycle number, without malfunctions and with a good, reproducible quality, in hot-seal machines. For this purpose, a fold line is produced through the heating of a linear region, independently of the heating during the process of sealing the blister edges with the carrier part. The apparatus has a corresponding heating station for heating and creating a fold line in the blister dome.
Abstract: In summary, the invention discloses a device and a method for performing remote diagnostics on vehicles, in particular on electrical, mechanical and mechatronic components of vehicles, with which, even in the case of complicated vehicle defects and/or vehicle defects which are difficult to find, the service technician can find and recover the problem in a very short time, if necessary by means of real-time access to external databases and/or by involving a service centre so that the non-operational times in the event of a fault are minimized.
Abstract: A resonator-type SAW filter has a ladder network of SAW resonators with respective interdigital transducers and reflectors. Individual ground patterns are provided for each interdigital transducer and each reflector in the shunt-arm SAW resonators. These ground patterns are electrically isolated from one another, and are grounded through separate bonding wires or other conductors that couple the ground patterns to a ground lead. This independent grounding scheme is found to improve the attenuation characteristic of the filter on the low side of the passband.

Abstract: An axial face seal has a sliding ring and/or a counter-ring for use with an elastic roll body. The ring has a seal leg having a sliding surface, and a supporting portion with a conical circumferential surface outside of the sliding surface for accommodating the elastic roll body. The seal leg also has an extended region that extends past the supporting portion. A reinforcement for the extended region is located between the extended region and the supporting portion.
Abstract: A carriage for a linear guiding device, designed to be arranged on a rail. The carriage includes a center section and two legs that each join the center section, thus providing the carriage with an essentially U-shaped design. The carriage further includes a support region as well as two deflector channels that connect the return channel and the support region, sleeve-shaped guiding elements that are arranged in recesses of a basic body of the carriage, in the return channels. Plastic material is poured in part or totally around one of the two ends of at least one sleeve-shaped guiding elements in order to secure it inside the recess. The sleeve-shaped guiding elements are each provided with centering elements on their outside surfaces, which elements are used to determine the position of a guiding element.
