Abstract: A storage apparatus sets up part of non-volatile cache memory as a cache-resident area, and in an emergency such as an unexpected power shutdown, backs up dirty data of data cached in volatile memory to an area other than the cache-resident area in the non-volatile cache memory, together with the relevant cache management information. Further, the storage apparatus monitors the amount of the dirty data in the volatile cache memory so that the dirty data cached in the volatile cache memory is reliably contained in a backup area in the non-volatile memory, and when the dirty data amount exceeds a predetermined threshold value, the storage apparatus releases the cache-resident area to serve as the backup area.

Abstract: Network Allocation Vector (NAV) and “beam access control” (BAC) techniques are provided to address data collision problems in WLANs wherein APs provide wireless network access in a service area defined by multiple sectors via use of a switchable antenna system or the like. Preferably, every time the AP visits a sector and before the AP moves on to the next sector, the AP can set the NAV equal to the time it will take until its next visit. Alternatively, or in addition, a BAC bit is transmitted by an AP to control access to the AP by WTRUs disposed in a service sector in which the BAC is transmitted.

Abstract: A technique to share a local oscillator signal between two radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs). The local oscillator signal generated internally by one RFIC is ported to the other RFIC for use in transmit or receive operation. The local oscillator signal that is ported may be an RF local oscillator signal. Each RFIC may include a bi-directional port circuit that can be operated to make the RFIC a master, slave or may be totally disabled to disable the porting feature. This is particularly useful in RFICs that are used to communicate using MIMO radio algorithms which rely for optimum performance on phase and frequency coherency among a plurality of transmitters and a plurality of receivers.

Abstract: The self-adhesive label (3) is provided on a web of siliconised polyester liner (4) and has a base label (30) with an upper printable surface and a lower adhesive coated surface and at least one patch of release material (38) located between the base label (30) and the web of siliconised polyester liner (4). By forming the patches of release material (38) on the adhesive surface of the base label (30) and then applying a siliconised polyester liner (4) over the patches (38) and the exposed adhesive surface of the base label (30), the resultant self-adhesive label is more robust and as the siliconised polyester liner (4) has a substantially continuous upper surface, the risks of snagging as a result of edges and windows in the web of backing material is avoided.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing a blind seamless channel change (BSCC) when at least one of a plurality of wireless communication devices is jammed on a current communication channel includes the first wireless communication device transmitting a BSCC message on the current communication channel to a second wireless communication device that includes information relating to a communication channel selected from a plurality of available communication channels that the first wireless communication device is switching to next, and a time period when the first wireless communication device will be transmitting on the selected communication channel. The first wireless communication device switches to the selected communication channel. The second wireless communication device receives the BSCC message and switches to the selected communication channel. The first and second wireless communication devices resume normal wireless communication.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forwarding non-consecutive data blocks in enhanced uplink (EU) transmissions. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and one or more Node-Bs include one or more automatic repeat request (ARQ)/hybrid-ARQ (H-ARQ) processes for supporting an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH). Data blocks transmitted by the WTRU are re-ordered in a re-ordering entity located in the Node-B(s) or a radio network controller (RNC). Once a missing data block is identified, a data forwarding timer in the Node-B(s) or RNC is initiated and subsequent WTRU transmissions are monitored to determine whether the missing data block has been discarded by the WTRU. Upon recognition of the discard of the missing data block, the non-consecutive data blocks are forwarded to higher layers.

Abstract: The present invention resides in an image pickup device capable of reducing the deformation of the image of the photographed object. An image pickup element included in the image pickup device has a matrix of pixels, for which the control of the charge storage and the readout of image signal data is performed on a row-by-row or column-by-column basis. The storage controller controls the charge storage operation of the image pickup element. On the other hand, the readout controller controls the readout of the image signal data from the image pickup element, while keeping constant the unit period for the readout of the image signal data from the image pickup element. A synchronization signal generator provides a synchronization signal as a timing reference for the frame-based operation of the image pickup element. The synchronization signal period controller variably controls the repetition period of the synchronization signal, while the photographing is under way.
Abstract: An inductor includes an inductor body having a top surface and a first and second opposite end surfaces. There is a void through the inductor body between the first and second opposite end surfaces. A thermally stable resistive element positioned through the void and turned toward the top surface to forms surface mount terminals which can be used for Kelvin type sensing. Where the inductor body is formed of a ferrite, the inductor body includes a slot. The resistive element may be formed of a punched resistive strip and provide for a partial turn or multiple turns. The inductor may be formed of a distributed gap magnetic material formed around the resistive element. A method for manufacturing the inductor includes positioning an inductor body around a thermally stable resistive element such that terminals of the thermally stable resistive element extend from the inductor body.
