  • Patent number: 6663678
Abstract: Tubular knit goods including natural fibers and synthetic elastomeric fibers are steam treated and then circularly expanded and heat-fixed while being transported vertically downwardly over a circular spreader in a heat fixing chamber. The goods build up a buffer or excess material reserve on the conical feed section of the circular spreader, either by using a greater transport velocity into the feed section than that out of the feed section and along the spreader, or by starting to feed the goods into the feed section for a time before starting to draw the goods out of the feed section and then transporting the goods to and from the feed section at the same velocity. The goods relax in the buffer. Transporting the goods vertically downwardly over the circular spreader during the heat-fixing uses gravity advantageously, and reduces tension in the goods.

  • Patent number: 6659010
Abstract: A pyrotechnic igniter arrangement, especially for occupant protection devices in motor vehicles, includes a single common carrier substrate, an electronic assembly arranged on the carrier substrate in an electronic zone, an electrically ignitable ignition bridge arranged on the carrier substrate in a pyrotechnic zone, and a pyrotechnic charge in the pyrotechnic zone. A mechanical decoupling or parting feature, such as a frangible link or an elastically bendable neck, is provided in the carrier substrate between the pyrotechnic zone and the electronic zone, so that forces arising during ignition of the pyrotechnic charge are not transmitted through the carrier substrate into the electronic zone. The decoupling feature breaks or elastically yields when a load exceeding a prescribed threshold is applied thereto. The electronic assembly is protected from damage due to excessive loads, and remains functional even after ignition of the pyrotechnic charge.

  • Patent number: 6659699
Abstract: A lockbolt includes a bolt head, a shank, a locking portion, a predetermined breaking point, and a break-away portion. The locking portion includes a knurled surface having knurling peaks between intersecting knurling grooves that extend in a direction with an axial component, e.g. spiraling helically. A sealant on two workpieces smears onto the knurled surface when the bolt is inserted in a hole therein, but does not need to be removed. A locking collar is swaged onto the locking portion to secure the workpieces between the head and the collar. The sealant is distributed as a thin layer to provide a seal and an adhesive bond between the collar and the knurled surface. Excess sealant is squeezed-out axially, without forming encapsulated pressurized sealant pockets and without hindering the swaged engagement of the locking collar onto the knurling. Then the break-away portion is broken-off at the breaking point.

  • Patent number: 6655191
Abstract: In a method for detecting knocking combustion during the operation of an internal combustion engine with a device for measuring the ionic current, the raw ionic current signal or the evaluated value of the knocking intensity are normalized. This enables the value of the knocking intensity to be reliably compared with a threshold value. The normalization avoids the falsifying influence of large intensity fluctuations of the raw ionic current signal from one combustion cycle to the next without any relation to the true knocking intensity.

  • Patent number: 6656233
Abstract: A method of independently producing a negative electrode for a lithium secondary cell having thin films of lithium and a sulfide-based inorganic solid electrolyte begins with a negative electrode base material and an inorganic solid electrolyte source material being removed from closed containers in a chamber space, which is substantially inactive to lithium and insulated from air. The materials are transferred into an adjacent thin film deposition system without being exposed to the air. In the system, the source material is used to form a thin film of an inorganic solid electrolyte on the base material, to make the electrode. The electrode is transferred, without being exposed to the air, into a chamber space, which is substantially inactive to lithium, where the electrode is placed into a closed container. Thus, a negative electrode can be produced without being degraded by air.

  • Patent number: 6658359
Abstract: C9The invention relates to a method for determining the viscosity of an operating liquid of an internal combustion engine of a vehicle by establishing the level of the operating liquid. In a known method, the viscosity of the operating liquid is established from the changes to the level in the operating liquid over a period of time. This viscosity is determined after turning off the internal combustion engine by measuring the variation of the engine oil level over a period of time. The measurement can, however, also take place exclusively after the internal combustion engine has been turned off. In the present method, this disadvantage is avoided in that the level and the variation of the transverse acceleration are measured constantly in order to determine the viscosity of the operating liquid from the variation against time of the two signal curves.

  • Patent number: 6653974
Abstract: In a method for the determination of the unambiguous range for the measurement of the IF deviation in a frequency-regulated radar system, a frequency adjustment or tuning of the radar system is carried out during the reception of an echo signal by adjustingly setting respectively at least one value for the IF deviation around the value zero in the unambiguous range of the IF deviation as well as in an ambiguous range of the IF deviation. Then, the unambiguous range is recognized as such by comparison of the signal amplitude and/or the number of the detected targets during these adjustment settings, because the unambiguous range exhibits the highest signal amplitude and/or the greatest number of detected targets (i.e. echo signals).

  • Patent number: 6653564
Abstract: At least one semiconductor element is located on an electrically conducting conductor strip. Around the conductor strip and the at least one semiconductor element, a housing made of a molding material is arranged such that there are still frame sections of the conductor strip outside the housing. An enlarged frame section of the conductor strip is widened so as to extend into contact with, e.g. directly adjacent to or even protruding into the housing, in order to prevent the formation of a molding flash ridge on this housing surface. The enlarged frame section is finally removed. The avoidance of a molding flash ridge allows the component to be suction-held by a suction needle at this housing surface.
