  • Patent number: 6644197
Abstract: An igniter arrangement for vehicle occupant protection devices includes a substrate, an electronic assembly on the substrate in an electronic zone, an electrical ignition bridge on the substrate in a pyrotechnic zone, and a pyrotechnic charge adjoining the ignition bridge. A shock absorbing elastic first material covers a first portion of the substrate in the pyrotechnic zone, and forms a shock-absorbing cushion between the charge and the electronic zone. A second material harder than the first encases a second portion of the substrate and the electronic assembly in the electronic zone, protects the electronic assembly, and separates the two zones. The ignition bridge and the electronic assembly are at opposite ends of the elongate substrate. A breakable parting feature separably connects the two substrate portions and breaks due to high forces arising during ignition of the charge, so these forces are not transmitted through the substrate into the electronic zone.

  • Patent number: 6641089
Abstract: An auxiliary flap is movably arranged on a planar trailing edge of an aerodynamic element such as a wing, rudder, stabilizer, or flap. The auxiliary flap is rotatable and/or slidable relative to the aerodynamic element, to move selectively into three positions. In a first position, a free edge of the auxiliary flap protrudes into an airflow boundary layer on one side of the aerodynamic element, to decrease lift. In a second position, a free edge of the aerodynamic element protrudes into an airflow boundary layer on the other side of the aerodynamic element, to increase lift. In a third neutral position, the auxiliary element does not protrude into either boundary layer, so as not to influence lift. The auxiliary flap is simple and rapidly acting. The flap protrudes substantially perpendicularly into the boundary layer flow. The auxiliary flap has a planar plate shape.

  • Patent number: 6641861
Abstract: A method of fabricating a heatsink including a substrate of a sintered compact containing Cu and W, and a thin diamond film layer formed on the surface of the substrate with good adherence, involves immersing the substrate in acid to reduce the Cu content of a surface region thereof and to roughen exposed W at that surface region, and then forming the thin diamond film layer on that surface region by vapor synthesis. Alternatively, a thin diamond film layer is formed on a surface of a porous body substrate, and then a hole in the porous body substrate is filled with Cu.

  • Patent number: 6641863
Abstract: A method of producing a thin film of an inorganic solid electrolyte having a relatively high ionic conductance is provided. In the method, a thin film made of an inorganic solid electrolyte is formed, by a vapor deposition method, on a base member being heated. The thin film obtained through the heat treatment exhibits an ionic conductance higher than that of the thin film formed on the base member not being heated. The ionic conductance can also be increased through the steps of forming the thin film made of the inorganic solid electrolyte on the base member at room temperature or a temperature lower than 40° C. and then heating the thin film of the inorganic solid electrolyte.

  • Patent number: 6640701
Abstract: Catering in a transport vehicle like an aircraft involves collecting mixed waste including solids (e.g. left-over food portions, food wastes, napkins, disposable cutlery) and liquids (e.g. beverage rests), without separation. These wastes are disposed of into an apparatus including a receiving container with a filter and separating element at the bottom, a waste shaft leading into the container, a press arrangement with flap doors, pressure pistons which press the press arrangement and flap doors onto the waste in the container to compact the waste, and a drain and coupling system at the bottom of the container. As the waste is compacted, liquids drain down through the filter, oils and fats are removed by the separating element, and non-oily liquids are removed through the coupling system to the vacuum disposal system or the gray water drain line of the vehicle. A control unit controls the overall operation.

  • Patent number: 6635955
Abstract: A molded electronic component has numerous connection pins protruding on a single plane from a side surface area of an essentially cuboid housing, and a circumferential ridge of molded housing material protrudes from the other side area surfaces on the plane of the connection pins. The thickness of this ridge essentially corresponds to the thickness of the connection pins. On the side surface area located opposite the side surface area from which the connection pins protrude, in the plane of the connection pins, the ridge passes or transitions into a groove such that there is no ridge protruding outwardly beyond the side surface in this area. Thus, the component can be better placed by a tool such as a suction needle onto a printed circuit board without interference from such a ridge. The invention is particularly suitable for the production of molded electronic components whose separation plane runs through that housing surface which serves as a docking surface for a suction needle.

  • Patent number: 6630374
Abstract: A lead frame is placed on a lower mold with its non-mounting surface facing upward. An unused portion of a resin tape is supplied between the upper mold and the lower mold. The resin tape is sucked to the upper mold and preheated. A molten resin is injected into a cavity for curing, with the upper and lower molds closed together, and with the lead frame positioned loosely without being tightly clamped between the upper and lower molds. The injected resin presses the lead frame against the resin tape on the upper mold surface. Thus, resin sealing is performed. In this method, the resin tape is kept in close contact with the non-mounting surface of the lead frame and held in a space of the lead frame for resin sealing, so that formation of a cured resin on the bottom surface of the package can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 6626094
Abstract: In a filter press, a stack of vertically oriented, horizontally displaceable filter plates enclose filter chambers therebetween. The filter plates are successively moved relative to each other from a closed pressing position, through a pressure relief position, to an open discharge position. At least one connecting element is connected to each filter plate, and is movably coupled to the respective adjacent filter plate by a coupling pin, which slides in a specially configured groove of the connecting element. In the relief position, a respective coupling pin is stopped against an intermediate blocking surface of the groove of the connecting element of the next adjacent filter plate, thereby preventing further horizontal displacement. By unlatching the connecting element, the coupling pin can then slide to a stop surface of the groove, to allow the adjacent filter plates to be displaced farther into the open discharge position.
