Abstract: Wettable fibers and/or filaments, especially those of fine denier, are prepared from olefin polymers, especially linear low density copolymer (LLDPE), by having incorporated into said olefin polymer at least one wetting agent of the group comprising (a) an alkyoxylated alkyl phenol along with a mixed mono-, di-, and/or tri-glyceride, or (b) a polyoxalkylene fatty acid ester, or (c) a combination of (b) and any part of (a) above.
Abstract: A side-stream portion of a Stretford Process solution is taken from the main-stream in order to reduce the amount of deleterious side-products in the solution and the ADA values and vanadium values are salvaged from the side-stream by taking up the ADA values on activated charcoal and the vanadium values in an anion exchange resin. The ADA and vanadium values are recovered for re-cycling back to the Stretford Process.
Abstract: Novel anion exchange resin composites having hydrous chromium III oxide (Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3.nH.sub.2 O) incorporated therein are useful in removing a wide array of polyvalent metal cations from aqueous solution.
Abstract: Small rotund magnesium (or Mg alloy) granules dispersed in a friable salt matrix are obtained by preparing a molten salt mixture containing molten magnesium (or Mg alloy) stirring to effect good dispersion, and cooling the molten mixture to effect freezing of the magnesium (or Mg alloy) as small rotund globules dispersed in a solid friable matrix.
Abstract: The hydrophilicity and other properties of fluoropolymer-bonded asbestos diaphragms for use in brine electrolysis cells are improved by incorporating Na.sub.2 CO.sub.3 into the aqueous slurry from which the diaphragms are prepared.

Abstract: Blown films of LLDPE having reduced block and increased slip are provided by incorporating into the polymer, before blowing into films, effective amounts of certain fatty acid amides and inorganic materials which provide fast bloom, thereby obtaining an expedient effect of the additives on the surface properties of the blown film.
Abstract: Alkaline earth metal ions, e.g., Mg.sup.++ and/or Ca.sup.++, are removed from alkali metal brines, e.g., NaCl, by use of a particulate, macroporous, anion exchange resin containing the in-situ reaction product of polymeric, amorphous, hydrous zirconium oxide and a source of PO.sub.4.sup.--- ions, e.g., H.sub.3 PO.sub.4.
Abstract: A horizontally positioned rotating table is provided with a rotation means, a means for feeding molten material to the topside of the table as it is rotated, a means for cooling the molten material, and a means for scraping the cooled material from the table. This table is especially useful in continuously receiving a molten salt containing molten metal, cooling it to a friable solid, and scraping the friable solid from the table for further processing.
Abstract: Crystalline lithium stearate aluminate improves the coefficient of friction, the antiwear properties and the extreme pressure properties of lubricating fluids.

Abstract: A new and useful family of compounds is prepared by fluoride substitution into a cobalt oxide spinel, the new compounds conforming substantially to the empirical formula Co.sub.3 O.sub.x F.sub.y or M.sub.1 'M.sub.2 "--M.sub.i.sup.n Co.sub.(3-.SIGMA.) O.sub.x F.sub.y, where x+2y.congruent.4, where y is an amount such that F.ltoreq.2 wt. % of the compound, and where M.sub.1, M.sub.2, and M.sub.i each represent metal values other than Co. Thus the cobalt oxide spinel may be a single-metal spinel, a bimetal spinel, a trimetal spinel, or a polymetal spinel.
Abstract: Unwanted halogen values are removed from liquid resin, organic or hydrocarbon material by adding particulate crystalline lithium aluminate compounds to the liquid material to act as a halogen scavenger, then separating the crystalline aluminate compound from the liquid material.

Abstract: A method of recovering fumed hydrophobic SiO.sub.2, produced by the flame hydrolysis of a ternary azeotrope of H.sub.2 SiF.sub.6, HF, and H.sub.2 O, is disclosed. The method involves passing the fumed hydrophobic silica, as it leaves the combustion chamber, through a nonclassifying agglomerator at a residence (travel) time of from about 0.5 to several seconds, preferably about 1.0 to about 5.0 seconds, then separating the fumed silica from the product stream in a cyclone separator or other means for collecting dispersoids.
Abstract: Molten salt containing molten metal is continuously feed to the top side of a horizontal rotating table. As the table rotates the mixture is cooled to a friable solid which is then scraped from the table. Salt coated metal granules are produced which are round in shape and not elongated.
Abstract: The antioxidative degradation process, and/or color stability of carboxyl-containing ethylene interpolymers is improved by incorporating therein at least one aromatic bis(organophosphorus) compound, with or without a hindered phenol antioxidant and/or a dicarboxylic acid.
Abstract: Macroporous cation exchange resins with sulfonic acid functional groups having polymeric hydrous zirconium oxide and polyacrylic acid contained therein are useful in substantially removing sulfate, borate, bicarbonate and/or phosphate ions from alkali metal salt solutions.
Abstract: An ethylene polymer, especially a linear low density ethylene polymer, is mixed with certain antifog agents to provide a film-forming composition for making packaging films which resist fogging. The antifog agents are (1) an alkoxylated alkyl phenol along with a mixed mono-, di-, and/or triglyceride, (2) a polyoxyalkylene fatty acid ester, and (3) a combination of (2) and any part of (1). Optionally, a tackifier is added.
Abstract: Macroporous ion exchange resins having increased apparent density are provided by incorporating into said resins a weighting agent which is of greater apparent density than the resin itself. Such weighted resins exhibit reduced bed expansion when used with upflow streams, with relatively dense liquids, and with relatively viscous liquids.

Abstract: Crystalline 2-layer LiOH.2Al(OH).sub.3.nH.sub.2 O, preferably supported by a porous substrate, is prepared by treating crystalline 2-layer LiX.2Al(OH).sub.3.nH.sub.2 O, where X is anion, with a LiOH solution or other hydroxide ion source. The so-formed crystalline 2-layer LiOH.2Al(OH).sub.3.nH.sub.2 O is particularly suitable for exchange of the OH ion with larger X' ions to produce other crystalline 2-layer LiX'.2Al(OH).sub.3.nH.sub.2 O.
