  • Patent number: 7273918
Abstract: Just like other conducting polymers, polyanilines are useful for many important electric and electrooptical applications. A self-doped polyaniline that contains a stable/immobile, covalently bonded acid moiety on the backbone is highly desired, due to their greater resistances to solvent-washing, rain-flushing, and thermal evaporation. The present invention discloses a new type of thermally stable self-doped functionalized polyanilines that are thermally much more stable than the previously reported sulfonated-polyaniline, which was believed to be the most thermally stable self-doped polyaniline known in the art. The present invention also discloses a new and effective method for making this new type of thermally stable self-doped functionalized polyanilines.

  • Patent number: 7181515
Abstract: A method of accessing data from distributed field equipments by a host through a set of intelligent network gateways is disclosed. The intelligent network gateways link the host on a local area network to the field equipments that are connected to a control network. Initially, configuration software residing in the host is employed to install the intelligent network gateways and the field equipments as a set of virtual equipment data servers, which are capable of continuously accessing, updating, and storing data from the field equipments. The virtual equipment data servers always possess the field equipments' most recent data and are able to communicate to any application program with a standard communication protocol. The method and apparatus facilitate the integration of a variety of field equipments with high-speed data links in a factory environment.

  • Patent number: 7146885
Abstract: Disclosed is a sectionless length adjustment mechanism for the shank of a tool (e.g., screwdriver) and for releasably locking the shank in any one of a plurality of positions relative to the handle. In one embodiment the mechanism comprises a sleeve having a front flared end, a spring anchored in the sleeve, a shell including two opposite bars on its surface, and a nut secured to the sleeve. Pulling the shank forward will move the bars outward forward along the flared end to expand the spring. Pushing the shank rearward will move the bars inward rearward along the flared end to compress the spring. Stopping sliding will lockingly engage the shank. Loosening the nut will move the shell forward and expand the spring until the shank is free to slide with the bars disposed at a mouth of the flared end and disengaged from the shank.

  • Patent number: 7135523
Abstract: A method for making a series of nanoscale microstructures, including helical microstructures and cylindrical microstrustures. This method includes the steps of: (1) forming a chiral block copolymer containing a plurality of chiral first polymer blocks and a second polymer blocks wherein the chiral first polymer blocks have a volume fraction ranging from 20 to 49%; (2) causing a phase separation in the chiral block copolymer. In a preferred embodiment, the chiral block copolymer is poly(styrene)-poly(L-lactide) (PS-PLLA) chiral block copolymer, and the copolymerization process is a living copolymerization process which includes the following steps: (a) mixing styrene with BPO and 4-OH-TEMPO to form 4-hydroxy-TEMPO-terminated polystyrene; and (2) mixing the 4-hydroxy-TEMPO-terminated polystyrene with [?3-EDBP)Li2]2[(?3-nBu)Li(0.5Et2O)]2 and L-lactide in an organic solvent preferably CH2Cl2 to form the poly(styrene)-poly(L-lactide) chiral block copolymer.
