  • Patent number: 6621778
Abstract: This specification discloses an automatic calibration method for the output power of a pickup head for an optical information recording apparatus, which avoids laser diode thermal effects using duty cycle control and obtains the correct conversion function between the output current of a front monitor diode and the output power of the pickup head by curve fitting. This method only needs to measure one set of front monitor diode output current and output power conversion function of the pickup head. The same conversion function is applicable to all pickup heads of the same type. The optical information recording apparatus automatically detects the corresponding parameter for the pickup head. Each optical information recording apparatus can also automatically detect the specific power control parameters for each set of power control channel to obtain the optimal recording characteristics.

  • Patent number: 6580557
Abstract: The present invention discloses a single lens instantaneous 3D image taking device for the application in digital image taking. The digital image taking device contains a lens, an aperture disk and a single sensor installed and aligned in a straight line. The aperture disk has three off-optical-axis apertures with different angular coordinates that are installed with red, blue, and green filters, respectively, for light to pass through. When light passes through the lens and the three apertures on the aperture disk, it will be projected onto the sensor, giving image and color information from three different perspectives. Finally, through color separation and image correlation, a precise 3D range image and color information can be obtained.

  • Patent number: 6577376
Abstract: The present invention relates to an optical device with a variable numerical aperture (NA), which utilizes special optical properties of a liquid crystal medium. Through the design of external electrodes and a circuit control unit, the refraction index of the liquid crystal medium can be modulated by the external voltage so that the beam passing through the LCD produces diffraction. An optical device with a variable focal point is thus formed by combining this LC diffractive device and an objective lens. So the present invention provides an optical device with focal points of different numerical apertures by varying the external voltage, whereby the device can read optical disks of all specifications.

  • Patent number: 6556526
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for analyzing the read-out signal of an optical storage media and is especially suitable for the HF signal read from the digital video disk (DVD), wherein the HF signal comprises many different signals whose periods are integer times of the system period. The present apparatus can be used to record the maximum or minimum values of specific period of signals for further statistical analyses. Furthermore, the AC and DC components of the HF signal can be processed independently and the results will be combined together for further processes. Therefore, it only takes moderate memory capacity and acquisition time to obtain accurate maximum or minimum values of the specific period of signals.

  • Patent number: 6551916
Abstract: A bond pad structure for use in wire bonding application during the packaging operation of semiconductor devices which contains a bond frame structure for holding the bond pad in place to prevent bond pad peel-off problem. The bond pad structure is a laminated structure containing a metal bond pad layer, a middle dielectric layer, and an underlying layer formed above a wafer surface. A guard band structure is formed in a spaced apart relationship from the metal bond pad layer which is connected to the underlying layer by a hole-fill. The underlying layer can be a metal layer, a semiconductor layer such as a polysilicon layer, or any material layer which has good adhesion with the hole fill material. The guard band structure exerts a downward force against the middle dielectric layer to help keeping the middle dielectric layer in place.

  • Patent number: 6538585
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a distance-enhancing coding method that can be applied to digital recording and digital communications. It improves the time-varying maximum transition run method used in a conventional distance-enhancing coding to avoid main error events ±(1,−1) from happening. Under the premise of maintaining a code gain of 1.8 dB, the code rate can be increased from ¾ to ⅘. The invention also provides a method of using an enumeration algorithm and an exhaustive method to search for block codes for distance-enhancing coding, which can find required codes by following specific steps.
