Abstract: The process and the system are used for carrying out the quench-cooled, vapor-phase polymerization of olefin monomer in a horizontally disposed reactor vessel which comprises contacting olefin monomer, or a mixture of olefin monomers, with a polymerization catalyst system in the presence of hydrogen in the reactor vessel to form a polymer product. The improvement comprises introducing a titanium-containing catalyst component of the catalyst system into the top side of the reactor vessel at a point adjacent to the upstream end of the reactor vessel and introducing a cocatalyst plus modifer component of the catalyst system into the top side of the reactor vessel at a distance, downstream of the point of introduction of the titanium-containing catalyst component, which is equal to 25% of the inside diameter of the reactor vessel.

Abstract: Catalyst activity life of an iron oxide-containing catalyst is extended by contacting such catalyst with a feedstream containing about 0.0001 to about 0.01 mole of oxygen per mole of feed in the substantial absence of an oxidation catalyst.
Abstract: The control strategies include controlling the slurry concentration (SCON) by making an energy balance calculation around a slurry reactor and a material balance of liquid in, and liquid and solids out, of the reactor to determine the SCON. The feed rate of a diluent (hexane) stream into the reactor is adjusted to cause the SCON to approach or be at a target SCON. Further the control strategies include controlling the melt flow rate (MFR) by measuring the temperature and pressure in the slurry reactor and by gas chromatography, determining the ratio of hydrogen to propylene, calculating the MFR from a correlation developed from polypropylene process results from these parameters and then adjusting the feed rate of a hydrogen stream into the reactor to cause the MFR to approach or be at a target MFR which will yield a desired product of polypropylene.

Abstract: The method and apparatus are used to disperse a liquid component throughout a gaseous component and to supply a uniform mixture of components to a heat exchanger in a process for thermal cracking hydrocarbons. The method for supplying the mixture of components from a nonuniform mixture includes several supply steps. First, the nonuniform mixture is separated into liquid and gaseous components. Then, the flow of gaseous component is accelerated to a high velocity. Next, the liquid component is dispersed through the gaseous component in a region of its high velocity flow to obtain a uniform mixture. Finally, the uniform mixture is supplied to the heat exchanger through an outlet conduit. The method is preferably accomplished with an assembly that is fabricated from a number of components. An inlet conduit supplies the gaseous component to a venturi which accelerates the flow velocity of the gaseous component in the assembly. A liquid supply conduit provides the liquid component to an atomizer in the assembly.
