  • Patent number: 4839180
Abstract: The heating of food from a chilled or frozen state to provide a prepared meal is becoming increasingly useful in the catering field, and to facilitate such preparation a heatpack base sheet for use in making a pouch forming a virtually enclosed pack containing a prepared meal is provided, whose form facilitates the necessary heating of the meal in a favourable manner enabling a hot meal to be conveniently served in a time-saving manner on a warm plate, without time being taken up in disposing the ingredients attractively, or in removing the browned oute ring often formed when a microwave oven is used for appropriate heatings. The proposed base sheet may be of electrically non-conductive synthetic resin, if intended for use in a microwave oven, or may be of conductive foil if the meal is to be defrosted in a thermally-heated oven.

  • Patent number: 4809706
Abstract: An incentive lung exercise apparatus includes an inhalation spirometer, a coupling attached thereto with a unidirectional outlet valve and a source of oxygen. A relatively long flexible hose connects this portion of the structure to a mouthpiece or face mask and medication nebulizer which can be held by a patient. Oxygen and medication can be administered while the patient is using the spirometer structure for lung exercise following surgery or the like. Oxygen is passed through a small hose within the major hose, leaving a substantial volume to retain exhaled gas which is then rebreathed, giving the patient greater incentive to utilize the apparatus for maximum lung inflation. A further small hose can be included and connected to an infrared capnograph for monitoring CO.sub.2 in the hose. Control of the depth of respiration is accomplished by varying the oxygen flow and inspired carbon dioxide content as judged by the analyzed expired endtidal carbon dioxide content.

  • Patent number: 4809516
Abstract: A residential HVAC system includes a heat pump having a compressor arranged to heat a domestic hot water vessel and to heat or cool a storage vessel which is connected to a heat exchanger within the residence. Temperature sensors are provided at critical locations throughout the system and current and voltage sensors are coupled to the power lines feeding the residence. A microprocessor controls the operation of the compressor and other components of the heat pump system in response to measured temperatures, in response to the level of energy supplied to the residence and in response to the existence of on- or off-peak time intervals to operate the compressor and/or resistive heating elements to condition the hot water and storage vessels for subsequent use and to control an interior fan to condition the space. Operation of the compressor is controlled during on-peak intervals as a function of the resident's life style as reflected in power usage and requested comfort level.

  • Patent number: 4785498
Abstract: A universal hinge structure includes a hinge part attachable to a frame and another hinge part attachable to a pivotable closure which is to be mounted in the frame. At least one of the hinge parts includes a cylindrical body having an adjustment screw extending therethrough and protruding into either the frame or the closure member. The adjustment screw is restrained by a locking pin so that it can not move axially relative to the body. The adjustment screws is threaded so that rotation of the screw in the frame or movable member adjusts the pivot axis of the hinge structure relative to the frame. Embodiments for various frame and closure member materials are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4779717
Abstract: For grasping, conveying and releasing printed products, particularly those occurring in a stream or scale flow by means of an endless link chain (90), a method is proposed, together with an apparatus having gripping and clamping members (10) for performing this method. For gripping and release purposes the individual gripping and clamping member (10) is so operated by means of control runner (70, 70') (75, 75') that a springy clamping arm (24) pressing under pretension against a bearing arm (16) is raised relative to the latter out of a closed position into an open position for grasping printed sheet (D) and then for conveying purposes is returned in snap-like manner into the closed position by the restoring force of clamping arm (24). The individual gripping and clamping member (10) operatively connected to articulation (92) of link chain (90) is constructed in one piece and has a substantially hairpin-like shape, which is bent four times.

  • Patent number: 4771620
Abstract: A lock cylinder has a stator rotatably mounted in a lock cylinder casing fixed with respect to the lock, is lockable to said casing and is operatively connectable to the driver on the rotor by means of tumbler pins between rotor and stator. The stator can be locked to the casing by an electromagnetic latch and for rotating the stator together with the rotor, use is made as a blocking catch of the tumbler pins arranged in a selected manner with respect to the shear line therebetween. The locking and unlocking between the locking cylinder casing and the stator is effective if the tumbler pins prevent the relative movement between the rotor and stator.

  • Patent number: 4772215
Abstract: A connector has a tubular body with first and second insulating bodies held therein. The first body is at the front, exposed end of the connector and has electrically conductive components for receiving the blades of a plug. The rear of the first body and the front of the second body have axially extending switch contacts which are brought into contact by rotation of the first body. Rotation is prevented by a locking ring nonrotatably coupled to the first body and engaging lugs at the front end of the connector. The locking ring is released from the lugs by axial force supplied by full insertion of the plug.

  • Patent number: 4756427
Abstract: A sorting method is disclosed in which particles suspended in a fluid are conducted in a closed duct and pass a measurement location in which particles to be selected trigger a signal by a sensing device. At a downstream fork, a pressure wave generated in response to the signal diverts the stream containing the particles from one branch to the other. An apparatus for carrying out this method is disclosed and includes a supply duct for the particle stream, a measurement duct, a measurement position in the measurement duct, a fork downstream of the measurement duct leading to a sorting branch duct and waste branch duct, and a pressure wave generator which is disposed in one of the ducts leading away from the fork.
