  • Patent number: 4753080
Abstract: A cold storage container has chambers of a solidifiable liquid such as water immersed in a brine. The brine is circulated to heat exchange systems which can cool the brine to below the solidification temperature of the liquid and can extract heat from a space to cool the space. The chambers are preferably formed in sausage-shaped interconnected chambers which are free to move within the container and which occupy about 70% of the container volume.

  • Patent number: 4745785
Abstract: A safety lock cylinder is constructed so that a door can be opened or closed manually from one side, preferably the outside by inserting a key in a key guide and from the other side with a motor. The remote control of the lock can be prevented, if desired. By manually closing the door with the key in the key guide, the key and motor are releaseably coupled to the lock operating mechanism so that when the key is inserted the motor is decoupled from the mechanism, preventing danger to a person holding the key.

  • Patent number: 4740176
Abstract: An electrical connector has male and female housing halves each of which has front and rear housing portions. The rear housing portion has an externally threaded front end, a stop shoulder at the rear extent of the threads and a hole to receive a latch pin. The front housing portion has internal threads at the rear end to engage the threads on the rear housing portion and also has an end face with a recess. The latch pin penetrates the rear housing near the stop shoulder and has a nonsymmetrical head. The latch pin can be rotated between a position in which the head protrudes beyond the stop shoulder and a position in which it does not protrude beyond the stop shoulder. When fully threaded together, the recess is aligned with the latch pin which can be rotated to its latching, protruding position to prevent unthreading of the housing portions.

  • Patent number: 4730820
Abstract: The apparatus for filing or ordering a scale flow of folded, flat printed products from a rotary printing press has sliding teeth formed into a filing comb arranged on both side of the scale flow and fixed to tooth supports and with, in each case, at least one sliding tooth engaging to the left and right of a printed product in the scale flow behind its fold. The tooth supports are fixed to rotatable chains arranged to the right and left of the scale flow. One drum runs laterally along side the scale flow, so that said engagement is permitted. An equal number of filing combs is fixed to the rotary chains and run in each case around two sprockets, at least one being a driving sprocket, the spacing of two teeth on the same rotary chain determining the new scale spacing.

  • Patent number: 4726065
Abstract: An improved method of entering instructions to a data processing system to modify the display includes voice recognition. In one embodiment the screen is divided into sectors and the memory supplying data bits to the display is functionally divided in a corresponding way. The operator utters sector identification and change instructions. Voice recognition apparatus provides recognized location information and instructions to an assembler from which commands are issued to the system. In another embodiment a touch responsive screen is used in conjunction with spoken instructions. The system is particularly useful in preparing material for microform storage.

  • Patent number: 4723117
Abstract: A fuse assembly includes a housing having a base, side and end walls and a removable cover. Studs extend through the base and a current limiting fuse is connected between the studs. The cover, which has an edge gasket, is held against the side and end walls by fasteners which extend through the cover and threadedly engage the studs, the fasteners having enlarged heads to press against the outer surface of the cover and hold it firmly in place, forming a sealed interior chamber for the fuse. A locking filament inhibits unscrewing the fasteners.

  • Patent number: 4722508
Abstract: In a valve on a processing plant in the chemical apparatus field, which has a valve housing, a feed flange and a discharge shaft, together with a valve seat arranged in the vicinity of the feed flange and an associated valve cone, at least the contacting parts of the valve seat and valve cone are made from metal. The inner wall of the valve seat formed as a surface of revolution is provided in the flow direction with two adjacent areas having different diameters and which are separated from one another by an edge. When the valve is closed, only the valve seat edge engages on the circumferential surface of the valve cone. In the first area facing the feed flange, the valve seat wall preferably has a substantially constant radius which continuously increases in the flow direction in the following second area, resulting in particularly reliable closing behavior. This can be further aided by an axially acting spring element.

  • Patent number: 4717546
Abstract: An apparatus for automatically performing a blood glucose test includes a cylindrical carrier with a holder for receiving a reagent pad. Upon receiving the pad, the carrier holds the pad for a predetermined reaction time and then rotates the pad successively to washing and de-watering stations. After de-watering, the pad is presented to a measuring station at which a reflectometer evaluates the color characteristics of the pad. A display of glucose level as a function of the color change of the pad is presented.

  • Patent number: 4711435
Abstract: Apparatus for hydraulic damping has a housing (22) having a chamber (30), the chamber (30) dividing the housing (22) into two enclosures (18, 19), between which enclosures (18, 19) fluid may flow through the chamber (30), the chamber (30) having a first port (34) and a second port (36) each being in communication with a respective one of the enclosures (18, 19) and a member (31) arranged inside the chamber (30) such that increase of fluid pressure difference between the ports (34, 36) in either direction causes the member (31) to be deflected elastically so as to allow flow of fluid between the enclosures (18, 19) in the respective direction, the incremental deflection of the member (31) for a particular incremental increase of fluid pressure difference increasing at increasing fluid pressure difference.

  • Patent number: 4711472
Abstract: A connector for firmly engaging the exterior annular ribs on non-metallic conduit includes a tubular sleeve with a stop wall at one end, the stop wall having an opening therethrough. Several latch tabs are formed in the side wall of the sleeve, the tabs being inclined inwardly so that the ends of them extend into the interior of the sleeve. When a piece of conduit is inserted until it abuts the stop wall, the tabs snap into recesses adjacent the end rings. On the other side of the stop wall are hook members to engage the opening in a junction box or an identical sleeve for engaging a second piece of conduit.

  • Patent number: 4711290
Abstract: A casting furnace is fed an inert gas under pressure through a feed line with the pressure being regulated by a melt level control device. When the pressure is reduced, the inert gas is exhausted from the casting furnace by an exhaust line, the feed line having a check valve to prevent gas which is contaminated by magnesium from entering the feed line. An oxidizing gas, preferably pressurized air, is periodically fed into the exhaust line by an oxidizing gas line for cleaning the drain line and the pressure-controlling aperture therein by oxidizing the magnesium.

  • Patent number: 4698978
Abstract: A bidirectional heat transfer system including a reversing valve and a compressor has a compressor control which is subject to a welded contact failure. The system is monitored to determine when the control system has signaled for the compressor operation to stop but the compressor has, in fact, continued to operate. Under these circumstances, a safety mode of operation is commenced to keep a load on the compressor to thereby save the compressor from self-destruction. Preferably, this is done by repetitively reversing the state of the reversing valve.
