Abstract: A liquid flow cytometer for counting and classification of particles such as biological cells and other microscopic particles in liquids that involves an optical system for irradiation and detection in a metering zone (7), thus enabling optical dispersion and fluorescence caused by the particles to be simultaneously detected when the particles pass the metering zone, includes in a first beam path (S.sub.1) a mirror reflector (9) with its focal point in the metering zone (7), a quarter-wave plate (8) between the metering zone (7) and the mirror reflector (9), a lens (6) with its focal point in the metering zone (7) and located on the opposite side of it together with a dichroic mirror (5) behind the lens and provided in such a manner that it gives reflection to a second beam path (S.sub.2). In the second beam path (S.sub.2) a beam splitter (4) is provided between the dichroic mirror (9) and a known per se light source (1), and produces a third beam path (S.sub.3).
Abstract: A device for supporting an optical system of a television camera has a pair of positioning holes, formed in a bracket holding an image pickup element, which are fitted respectively on a pair of positioning pins formed on a rear side of an escutcheon holding a lens, thereby positioning the image pickup element in a horizontal and a vertical direction. Rattling of the bracket in a direction perpendicular to the optical axis of the optical system is absorbed by a pair of plate springs, and also rattling of the bracket in a direction of the optical axis is absorbed by a pair of coil springs, thereby enabling a high-precision adjustment.

Abstract: A manually actuated pump sprayer of the type having a discharge nozzle cap in engagement with a probe, spin mechanics formed between the cap and the probe. A generally cylindrical fluid flow dampening chamber, formed at the end of the probe in communication with the spin chamber or being integrated with the spin chamber, has a non-smooth sidewall defined by at least one projection extending toward the axis of the probe for reducing spin energy of the fluid spinning in the dampening chamber and/or in the spin chamber about the axis to effect a solid spray cone of fluid exiting the orifice.
Abstract: A manually actuated pump dispenser has a water seal for maintaining the container vent ports sealed closed during pumping until at or near the end of the pressure stroke whereupon a vent path through which only air is permitted travel into the container, is open as the path is shielded against water entering the vent path when pumping in a wet environment as when dispensing hair shampoo or hair conditioner. In a plunger lock-down position of shipping and storage, leakage of product through the vent ports is substantially avoided during a superatmospheric condition within the container.

Abstract: A document management system in which a list of sorting information displayed on a display for sorting document data into corresponding individual files of the document data can be changed as desired by the user. File names ("internal medicine", "pediatry", etc. ) set in a file management table are displayed in rectangular zones of a window displayed on the display. When the user desires to change the arrangement of the displayed file names, he specifies the rectangular zone from which one file name is to be shifted and another rectangular zone to which that file name is to be shifted. By so specifying, a file location table provided for management of the displayed file arrangement is changed to change the arrangement of the file names displayed in the window.

Abstract: The system includes a first card-like unit adapted to communicate with a second unit. The second unit grants conditional access to a function or service in accordance with an authentication operation. Both units are capable of running software for generating passwords by means of encryption of several dynamic variables as for example a time dependent variable and/or a variable representing the number of formulated authentication requests. The encryption may be performed using a dynamic key. In order to synchronize the values of the variables generated in concert but independently in the units, only some of the least significant digits of the variables are transferred from the card-like unit to the other unit, with the transfer being performed by adding the digits to the password.
Abstract: An optical system for use in a relatively wide wavelength range including a plurality of diffractive optical elements whose diffraction efficiencies are optimized for different wavelengths within said predetermined wavelength range. A diffractive optical element for use in a wide wavelength range includes a light transmissive substrate having a plurality of surface regions and a plurality of surface relief diffractive gratings are formed in said surface regions such that diffraction efficiencies of these gratings are optimized for different wavelengths within said predetermined wavelength range. A diffractive optical element is formed by a single optical element having a light transmissive substrate which reveals a given spectral transmittance and a surface relief diffractive grating formed in a surface of said substrate such that a wavelength dependency of said grating provides a desired spectral transmittance together with said spectral transmittance of the substrate.
Abstract: Years past 1999 are stored as binary integers or in other coding schemes not reserved by ASCII or EBCDIC in fields previously reserved for representations of years as two decimal digits. The binary integers occupy ranges of values for the fields which are not used by an integer value corresponding to any possible combination of two decimal digits from 00 to 99. Data written in binary format and data written in a conventional format such as ASCII can be distinguished in various ways, such as by determining whether the year datum has a binary integer value falling inside or outside the range for possible ASCII combinations of two digits, or testing the bit having a place value of 4,096. If this bit is tested, it will always be on (one) for data written in ASCII and off (zero) for all binary integer values from zero through 4,095. In this way, data using integer-encoded years and years represented by the last two decimal digits will be able to coexist for at least ten thousand years.
Abstract: A compound differential circuit detects the highest relative signal of a plurality of input signals. Peak detector circuits including a sensing diode and a capacitor, are employed to produce a control signal. A switch receives the corresponding control signal. One switch is active at a time in response to the highest control signal. An LED connected to the activated switch is illuminated so that a visual indication of the highest input signal is displayed. In another embodiment, a feedback sensor for a graphic equalizer is disclosed.
