Abstract: Process for the production of branched fatty acids and their esters comprising reacting unsaturated fatty acids or esters thereof with aliphatic nonactivated olefins in the presence of layer silicates and active carbon.
Abstract: C.sub.8-22 fatty alcohols are produced by a process which comprises contacting a triglyceride with hydrogen in the presence of a copper-zinc catalyst and in a reaction zone. The hydrogen pressure in the reaction zone is from about 200 to about 280 bar, the temperature of the entrance of the reaction zone is from about 200.degree. C. to about 230.degree. C., and the temperature of the exit of the reaction zone is from about 190.degree. C. to about 220.degree. C. The amount of 1,2-propanediol formed is optimized by the lower temperature of the exit portion of the reaction zone.

Abstract: Powder-form preparations of surface-active alkyl glycosides contain 5 to 65% by weight of a surface-active alkyl glycoside and 35 to 95% by weight of an inert inorganic support. They are produced by mixing the crude product obtained in the industrial production of the alkyl glycosides with water and an inorganic particulate support, for example silica, chalk or sodium chloride, and drying the resulting mixture. Preferred powder-form preparations contain 20 to 50% by weight of the alkyl glycoside and 50 to 80% by weight of an inert inorganic support.

Abstract: This invention is a process for the hydrothermal preparation of sodium disilicate with a molar ratio of Na.sub.2 O:SiO.sub.2 of 1:2 at an elevated temperature and a pressure corresponding to said temperature in a pressure vessel, characterized in that quartz sand and caustic soda solution and/or an aqueous solution of amorphous sodium disilicate at a total solids concentration of from 50 to 75% by weight are heated to at least 235.degree. C. in a first step, the concentration may be increased in an optional second step by removing water from the reaction mixture, in a third step, dependent on whether the second step has been carried out, the amount of water removed in the second step is completely or partially added again to the mixture during or immediately after same has been cooled to from 90.degree. C. to 130.degree. C., and then the obtained crystalline sodium disilicate is recovered.
Abstract: Heating an aqueous mixture of a fluoroacid such as H.sub.2 TiF.sub.6 and an oxide, hydroxide, and/or carbonate such as silica produces a clear mixture with long term stability against settling of any solid phase, even when the oxide, hydroxide, or carbonate phase before heating was a dispersed solid with sufficiently large particles to scatter light and make the mixture before heating cloudy. The clear mixture produced by heating can either be mixed with water soluble and/or water dispersible polymers, for example with dispersed polymers of the diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A or an acrylic acid polymer, or with soluble hexavalent and/or trivalent chromium, to produce a composition that improves the corrosion resistance of metals treated with the composition, especially after subsequent painting.

In formula (I), R--CO represents the acyl radical of a mono- or polyunsaturated, aliphatic C.sub.16-22 carboxylic acid or a mixture of such radicals, R'--CO represents the acyl radical of a C.sub.1-22 carboxylic acid or a mixture of such radicals and x and y represent the percentages by weight of the particular polymer units, x assuming values of 20 to 100% and preferably 20 to 95% and y assuming values of 80 to 0% and preferably 80 to 5%. The indices m and n independently of one another may assume the value 2 or 3.

Abstract: Free-flowing granulates having an apparent density of 650 to 1,000 g/l and containing nonionic surfactants from the class of polyglycol ether derivatives and also finely divided, water-soluble and/or water-insoluble solids and water are prepared by mixing the nonionic surfactant with water, which may optionally contain part, but less than 50% by weight, of the total quantity of water-soluble or water-insoluble solids in dissolved or dispersed form, in a first mixing step (A) until a viscous gel phase has formed. The remaining main quantity of the water-soluble or water-insoluble solids are then added and mixed in solid, powder form in a second mixing phase (B) and the mixture is mechanically treated until granulates have formed and a maximum apparent density is reached. The ratio by weight of nonionic surfactant and water in the gel phase to total solids present (expressed as anhydrous substance) is from 25:75 to 65:35. Zeolites and bentonites are particularly suitable as the water-insoluble solids.
