Abstract: A process for the removal of stains from fabrics, such as carpets. The process comprises treating the stained areas of the fabrics with a liquid, paste-form or foam-form stain remover and subjecting the entire fabric to cleaning with a powder-form cleaning composition before the treated areas have dried. The preferred stain remover is an aqueous composition containing a surfactant, and the preferred powder-form cleaning composition contains a finely divided cellulose powder as an adsorbent. The new process is suitable above all for the cleaning of carpets and carpeted floors.

Abstract: To produce granular, free-flowing detergents containing sodium metasilicate, pentasodium triphosphate or zeolite NaA or a triphosphate/zeolite mixture, at least two of the components are first agglomerated and mixed as a granular preagglomertate with other components present in powder form and compacted by means of rolls, the pressure limit beyond which no further compaction is obtained not being significantly exceeded. The compactate is then size-reduced to the desired particle size.

These softeners contain as active substance a combination of carboxylic acids and amines and/or quaternary ammonium compounds containing a long chain alkyl or alkenyl radical and comprise:(a) one or more amines corresponding to general formulae (I) and/or (II) below: ##STR1## in which: R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 may be the same or different and, independently of one another, represent hydrogen, straight-chain or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 alkyl radicals, in addition to which R.sup.2 may represent a hydroxy group or a group corresponding to the following formula: ##STR2## where: R.sup.5 is hydrogen or a straight-chain or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl radical; andR.sup.3 and R.sup.4 may be the same or different and, independently of one another, represent hydrogen, staight-chain or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.
Abstract: A process for the production of 2-benzyl fatty acids and esters thereof corresponding to the following formula ##STR1## comprising reacting 2-fatty alkyl-4,4-dimethyl-2-oxazolines with benzaldehydes corresponding to the formula R.sup.2 --C.sub.6 H.sub.4 --CHO to form 2-(1-benzylidene)-fatty alkyl-4,4-dimethyl-2-oxazolines, catalytically hydrogenating the products of this reaction to the 2-(1-benzyl)-fatty alkyl-4,4-dimethyl oxazolines and converting the products thus formed by acid-catalyzed hydrolysis or solvolysis with an alcohol of the formula R.sup.5 OH into the 2-benzyl fatty acids or esters thereof. Amidosulfonic acid gives particularly high yields as catalyst for the reaction of the 2-fatty alkyl-4,4-dimethyl-2-oxazolines with the benzaldehydes.
Abstract: Low viscosity amphoteric surfactants are prepared by quaternization of low diamine content imidazolines by a process in which certain addition and temperature parameters are strictly observed. Imidazolines suitable as a starting material may be obtained by heating fatty acids and aminoethanolamine in an inert solvent until water is eliminated, removing the water formed from the reaction mixture by azeotropic distillation and, finally, distilling off the solvent and the residual amine.

Abstract: Free-flowing, particulate foam inhibitor concentrates, which suffer no loss of activity in admixture with surfactants or strong alkalis, are prepared by compacting a mixture of from 1 to 20% by weight of the foam inhibitor with 80 to 99% by weight of a water-soluble salt or salt mixture optionally containing blending aids and having a pH value in the form of a 1% aqueous solution of from 6 to 9.5 under elevated pressure and subsequently size-reducing the compactate to an average particle size of from 0.1 to 2 mm. The presssure applied to the mixture should not significantly exceed the pressure limit at which no further compaction occurs. In addition, the particle porosity, as measured by mercury porosimetry, should be below 10%. The foam inhibitors used are preferably paraffin hydrocarbons, organopolysiloxanes and mixtures thereof with finely-divided hydrophobic solids, particularly finely-divided silica.
