  • Patent number: 6286294
Abstract: A wire stranding machine is provided, being capable of stranding the wire materials evenly and uniformly even if two wire materials are used, by installing the capstan assembly outside of the rotary structure on the wire incoming side. A rotary structure having the winding drum inside of a flyer bow is supported by main shafts, and the capstan assembly is disposed adjacent to the main shaft on the wire incoming side. The capstan assembly includes a pair of capstan members consisting of main and auxiliary capstans, each having plural grooves on the outer circumferential surface thereof, and the main capstans are set opposite to each other. The capstan assembly is so arranged that the main and auxiliary capstans are set on the mounting member of the main shaft supporting the rotary structure and disposed parallel in the direction perpendicular to the axis of the main shaft. The main capstans are adapted to rotate at the same speed but in opposite directions to each other.

  • Patent number: 6261713
Abstract: A novel delivery system for physical, inorganic sunscreens for use in sunscreen preparations is disclosed. One or more inorganic sunscreen agents, such as micronized zinc oxide and micronized titanium dioxide, is dispersed in a solid dispersion vehicle preferably selected from the group consisting of stearyl benzoate, behenyl benzoate and arachidyl benzoate, to thereby produce a solid dispersion of inorganic sunscreen agents for use in sun-screen preparations. The micronized sunscreens are embedded in a solid product which does not require mixing or regrinding before use. A solid formulation avoids the problems inherent in a fluid emulsion or dispersion, i.e., migration or settling out of the contents, which requires mixing and/or regrinding before use.

  • Patent number: 6260443
Abstract: A wrench (10) with torque augmenter is provided which includes a linkage assembly (38) to join a drive input (46) with an output wrench socket (90). The linkage assembly (38) consists of a drive link (40) extending from the input socket (46) and coacting with a conversion link (42) extending to a ratchet (88) disposed about the output socket (90) of the wrench. Rotation of the drive link (40) pivots the conversion link (42) to transfer torque from the input to the output socket (90). A pawl (76) on the driven link (42) is provided to coact with the ratchet (88) which encircles the output socket (90). A guide (36) is disposed at the interior of the housing (12) for the wrench to coact with the linkage assembly (38) and maintain proper alignment during a torque operation, such that stress and force are substantially reduced or dissipated, if not eliminated, during the operation.

  • Patent number: 6233857
Abstract: The present invention provides for a sign consisting of an alloy substrate encapsulated in a porcelain coating which can be selectively applied to different areas of the substrate. The coating provides a smooth transitional region on graphic indicia of the sign to make the sign impervious to vandalism, fire and dirt. There is also provided a process of selectively applying a second coat of porcelain to the existing coating to only those elevated portions elevated or Braille portions of the substrate.

  • Patent number: 6217781
Abstract: Slack end filtering tubes with tensioning members are utilized in an improved bump type filter employing a split inlet with an outlet and tube sheet at the lower slack end and a movable anchor plate at the upper end that can apply an adjustable tension to the filter tubes. The lower tube sheet is angled and has varying length connections to a plurality of filters to permit use of filter tubes of equal size. Movement of the anchor plate adjusts the lengths of the tubes by extending or shrinking the tubes to provide tension or relaxation of the tubes. Shaking the relaxed tubes removes accumulated materials to be flushed out. Tensioning of the tubes provides for filtration at the tubes. Slack end filtering tubes with tensioning members are employed in another embodiment to extract filtered liquid. A first set of filters extends outwardly from a vertical wall with a second set of filters resting along the bottom of the receiver.

  • Patent number: 6219439
Abstract: A biometric authentication system is provided which includes a dual input reader, the inputs consisting of stored physiological data of a user on a chip disposed on a smart card, and a fingerprint scan for comparison against the stored data. The system is self-contained so that the comparison of the biometric data with the data stored on the chip is done immediately on board the reader without relying upon communications to or from an external source in order to authenticate the user. The invention also prevents communication with external sources prior to user authentication being confirmed, so as to prevent user data from being stolen or corrupted. Alternatively, the biometric input can consist of a retina scan, voice identification, saliva or other biometric data.

  • Patent number: 6217450
Abstract: A computerized pool cue and a controller device are provided which are connected to a computer screen to simulate and display playing a game of pool or billiards. The pool cue is supported above an underlying surface for movement in at least two dimensions with respect to the underlying surface. Movement of the pool cue with respect to game balls in play is shown on the computer screen. A signal is generated from the pool cue to the computer for coaction with software to simulate the game of pool or billiards on the computer screen without using actual game balls.

  • Patent number: 6170978
Abstract: An apparatus for mixing fluids includes a housing which is mounted in line with a conduit carrying a primary fluid. A deformable member is mounted in the housing and an inlet conduit carrying a secondary fluid communicates with the deformable member. An adjustment knob adjusts the width of the deformable member, thereby adjusting the venturi effect created by the deformable member in the flow of primary fluid and adjusting the flow of secondary fluid which flows into the deformable member and is induced out of the deformable member through a plurality of holes to mix with the primary fluid.
