  • Patent number: 6106015
Abstract: A binder for storing collectibles in holder pages of a material dissimilar to the binder cover. The sheets of pages are fastened to each other and to the binder cover by ultrasonically sealing the sheets directly or indirectly through the internal surface of the cover to a concealed anchoring rib of the same material as the holder pages, which anchoring rib is disposed and secured in the spine of the cover. A method of manufacturing a binder for storing collectibles is also disclosed in which a series of sheets of pages is superimposed over the internal surface of the binder cover and then the sheets are fastened by ultrasonically sealing them to the cover by means of ultrasonic sealing tools which pierce and fuse the sheets along the desired line of attachment to form a single booklet, and then continue directly or indirectly through the internal surface of the cover to contact a concealed anchoring rib of the same material disposed in the spine of the binder.

  • Patent number: 6099545
Abstract: A disposable ear piercing device includes a first disposable cartridge containing an earring head of a stud or straight post configuration. An inner slidable capsule and a slidable spacer within the capsule hold the decorative earring head and post within the cartridge. A second clutch cartridge spaced from the slidable capsule holds a closed end clutch. A spring biased plunger controlled by a trigger release actuates the slidable spacer and capsule within the first cartridge to project the earring head through the earlobe in an open saddle area. The clutch at the opposing saddle area receives and engages the earring stud or post. Release mechanisms on the capsule and clutch cartridge permit removal of the earlobe with the earring away from the instrument.

  • Patent number: 6079854
Abstract: A device is provided to diffuse a beam of light, the device consisting of a plurality of truncated cells nested together along their respective sidewalls for collecting and diffusing the light rays as they extend along the plurality of cells having an expansive, tapered interior volume. The device diffuses the main light beam in a headlamp, for example, thereby substantially reducing the glare experienced by oncoming drivers and permitting high beams of the headlamp to be used in the presence of the oncoming drivers. The device of the present invention is retrofitable to existing headlamps. In another embodiment of the present invention, a concave lens is disposed in the headlamp assembly to diffuse the main light beam prior to it entering the truncated cells, while each one of the cells of the dispersion device is also provided with its own respective concave lens to augment the diffusing effect.

  • Patent number: 6076191
Abstract: An ornamental rotational hat is provided which includes a cap portion having an interior space for receiving a wearer's head, a motor mounted to the cap portion, and a screw-shaped ornament connected to the motor to rotate with respect to the cap while the cap remains stationary on the wearer's head. An additional feature of the rotational hat calls for an insert for the cap having a plurality of fingers with inherent resiliency to grip a head of the wearer, and to retain the cap to the wearer's head during rotation of the ornament.

  • Patent number: 6070317
Abstract: A quiet transformer includes a laminated core having each laminate formed as a flat layer from highly grain oriented silicon steel which is fabricated by laser cutting techniques with each layer including five segments in intimate contact with each other via mitered butt lap joints having increased length and asymmetrical angles at opposite ends for reducing the reluctance of the gaps between adjacent lamination segments. The center segment has V joints of different angles on opposite ends. Clamping holes formed in the element of said lamination having the largest cross section at the location in the segment away from said gaps to prevent magnetic flux crowding and increased local flux density. Indexing pins on opposite faces of the segments close and lock in the gaps of the core with each layer being 100% interleaved for producing low joint reluctance and to minimize magnetostrictive forces. The core is pressurized by clamping brackets and bolts connected to opposite ends of the core.

  • Patent number: 6051138
Abstract: A filter tube for use in earth coated type filters includes a flexible permeable tubular sheet internally supported by a helical spring which in one embodiment extends partially along the length of the filter tube. The unsupported free end or an intermediate portion is subjected to oscillation to dislodge contaminated coating material accumulated on the surfaces of the filter sheet. External means are provided at the free end of the filter to permit oscillation and to support a plurality of filter ends. In another embodiment, an internal spring is connected between opposite ends of the filter tube to support the full length of the tube wall. One end of the tube is connected to an external spring and anchor plate. In a slack position, the tube end folds over an end collar connected to the spring. Extension of the anchor plate applies tension to stretch the spring and tube to a taut position during a cycling operation which oscillates the tube to dislodge accumulated material.

  • Patent number: 6048355
Abstract: A disposable Ear Piercing device consists of an outer cartridge which is inserted into the piercing instrument. The outer cartridge contains a slideable inner capsule retaining an earring with a slideable spacer therein. By applying force to the instrument handle, an internal driving rod advances the inner capsule and slideable spacer forward, forcing the earring post through the ear and into a closed bottom retaining clutch. At such time, the earring is released from the inner capsule by spring arms which are integral with the spacer, opening hinged doors or door on the inner capsule, clearing the outer cartridge and allowing the earring and clutch to be released from the capsule onto the ear. The design of such inner capsule and spacer allows unsymmetrical decorative heads of varying thickness to be utilized.

  • Patent number: 5988596
Abstract: A cable foul sensor device for winches includes a flapper plate extending from a cover for the cable drum, and a sensing finger extending along the edge of the flapper plate to terminate above an upper layer of cable wound on the drum. The flapper plate is connected to a pivot member through which an adjustable set screw is mounted. A stationary housing for spring loaded switches is mounted on the cover and includes a contact plate which is depressed downward by the set screw of the pivot member to force the switches to the closed position to provide power for the drum. Upon fouling of the cable at the drum, the cable foul will displace the sensing finger and the flapper plate which will cause the pivot member to pivot away from the actuator plate, thereby permitting the spring loaded switches to bias in the open position to interrupt power to and lock the drum. An audio and/or visual signal is provided to indicate that a cable foul at the drum has occurred.
