Abstract: An optical system is effective to illuminate and scan an interior wall of an object having an interior bore, such as a stent. The system includes a light source, an object support having a light conducting portion, an image taking lens, and a line scan camera. The interior bore and the light conducting portion of the object support are in axial alignment with a center optical axis of the image taking lens. A drive mechanism engages the object without impacting the axial alignment. Various aspect of this optical system include a rotating wheel or transparent plate as the drive mechanism. The object support may be an opaque rod having a light conducting portion or a transparent rod.
Abstract: A magnetic filter device capable of separating contaminant material from a working fluid. The device includes an inlet to allow fluid to flow into the device and an outlet to allow fluid to flow out of the device. The filter further includes an elongate magnetic core comprising at least four columns of magnets. At least two magnetic columns include a north polarity extending over the length of the columns and at least two columns have a south polarity extending substantially the length of the columns. The four columns are positioned lengthways around a central longitudinal axis of the core in alternating north and south polarity thereby generating a magnetic field of alternating high and low field intensity in the region around the magnetic core exterior.

Abstract: A system is provided for joining two tubular structures by a surgical stapling procedure. The system includes a series of sizers, a specifically designed graft, a loading unit, a wand, a tourniquet, and a stapling instrument. The sizers are for determining the diameter of a target aorta and the availability of a sufficient transected aortic length to perform a stapling procedure. The loading unit holds the graft in position in the body and deploys a circumferential line of staples through the graft and an overlapping end of the aorta. The graft includes a side port by which the loading unit holds the graft during the stapling procedure, and which may be closed once the stapling procedure has been completed. The wand may be used to introduce the loading unit and graft into the body, to position them within the transected aorta, and to hold them in place during the application of the tourniquet.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of treatment of bodies of water such as recreational pools, spas and hot tubs with maintenance doses of water treatment chemicals to achieve consistent sanitization and aesthetically pleasing levels of properties such as turbidity. The amount of the maintenance doses is based on the volume of water to be treated in order to achieve hygienic and clear water. The method can be automated for accurate, consistent and safe treatment of water such as found in swimming pools, spas or hot tubs.

Abstract: A lead frame (52, 100, 112) for a semiconductor device (die) package (50, 102, 110) is described. Each of the leads (60) in the lead frame (52, 100, 112) includes an interposer (64) having one end (66) disposed proximate the outer face (58) of the package (50, 102, 110) and another end (68) disposed proximate the die (14). Extending from opposite ends of the interposer (64) are a board connecting post (70) and a support post (74). A bond site (78) is formed on a surface of the interposer (64) opposite the support post (74). Each of the leads (60) is electrically connected to an associated input/output (I/O) pad (80) on the die (14) via wirebonding, tape bonding, or flip-chip attachment to the bond site (78). Where wirebonding is used, a wire electrically connecting the I/O pad (80) to the bond site (78) may be wedge bonded to both the I/O pad (80) and the bond site (78). The support post (74) provides support to the end (68) of the interposer (64) during the bonding and coating processes.(FIG. 3).

Abstract: A system for separating sulfur dioxide from a gas using an aqueous absorption liquid. The system includes a housing, an apertured plate, an outlet box, a distribution mechanism, a container, and a pump. The housing has an inlet and an outlet. The apertured plate is positioned between the inlet and the outlet and includes a lower side, an upper side, and apertures fluidly connecting the lower and upper sides. The outlet box includes a distribution mechanism that is arranged so that the absorption liquid draining from the outlet box contacts the gas from the inlet before the gas passes through the apertures in the apertured plate. The container contains the absorption liquid and is fluidly connected with the housing. The pump draws the absorption liquid from the container through the pump and through a conduit to the upper side of the apertured plate.

Abstract: Sundials and solar compasses including are disclosed. Some embodiments include an omni-directional lens, which can focus a sun beam into a sharp spot with a long depth of field. By projecting the spot onto a cylindrical panel, both the day of the year and the time of the day can be read off simultaneously with very high accuracy. Because of the simultaneous displaying of time and date, no equation-of-time correction is required. If the time is known, the true north can be determined with high accuracy, and the device becomes a reliable and easy-to-use solar compass.

Abstract: An upper die portion of a die head for aligning probes having different offsets in a first array of first micro-holes formed in a lower die portion of the die head. The upper die portion includes a spacer portion and a first assembly aid film. The spacer portion includes first and second surfaces. The first surface contacts the lower die portion. The first assembly aid film is attached with the second surface and has a second array of second micro-holes for receiving the probes having different offsets. The second micro-holes include at least a first micro-hole that is configured to be offset from a corresponding micro-hole of the first micro-holes by a first offset and at least a second micro-hole that is configured to be offset from a corresponding micro-hole of the first micro-holes by a second offset that is not the same as the first offset.
Abstract: A package (10) includes an integrated circuit device (12) having an electrically active surface (16) and an opposing backside surface (14). A dielectric molding resin (26) at least partially encapsulates the integrated circuit die and the plurality of electrically conductive leads (20) with the backside surface (14) and the plurality of electrical contacts (24) being exposed on opposing sides of the package (10). Features (30) are formed into electrically inactive portions of the integrated circuit die (12) to seal moisture paths and relieve packaging stress. The features (30) are formed by forming a trough (54) partially through the backside (56) of the wafer (40) in alignment with a saw street (48), the trough (54) having a first width; and forming a channel (62) extending from the trough (54) to the electrically active face (42) to thereby singulate the integrated circuit device member, the channel (62) having a second width that is less than the first width.
