  • Patent number: 7797943
Abstract: A pilot for a scramjet provides a flame front whose arrival at the wall of the scramjet combustor is delayed thereby reducing combustor heat load. By combining in-stream injection of fuel with an interior pilot and a lean (fuel-poor) outer annulus, the bulk of combustion is confined to the scramjet combustor center. This concept, referred to as “core-burning,” further reduces combustor heat load. One such pilot is for a two dimensional scramjet effective to propel a vehicle. This pilot includes a plurality of spaced apart struts separated by ducts and a strut pilot contained within each strut. A second such pilot is for an axisymmetric scramjet engine has, in sequence and in fluid communication, an air intake, an open bore scramjet isolator and a scramjet combustor. This centerbody pilot pod includes a pilot isolator disposed between the air intake and a pilot diffuser, the pilot diffuser disposed between the pilot isolator and a pilot with the pilot disposed between the pilot diffuser and a pilot combustor.

  • Patent number: 7792744
Abstract: According to some embodiments, systems and methods are provided to facilitate a distribution of bank accounts via an educational institution. For example, information associated with a student, faculty member, or alum may be received from a university. A soft bank account may then be established based on the received information. If an indication of acceptance is received (e.g., via a Web site), the soft bank account may be activated. The activated bank account may then be used to process banking transactions.

  • Patent number: 7785552
Abstract: A method of removing SO3 from a flue gas of a boiler. The method includes the following steps: injecting chloride salts into a stream of the flue gas at a position located downstream of an air pre-heater—the position is selected so that the flue gas has a temperature at the position of substantially between 100° C. and 400° C.; reacting chloride salts with the SO3 to form a sulfate-containing reaction product; and collecting the sulfate-containing reaction product in a particulate collector downstream of the boiler. A purge stream from a wet flue gas desulfurization system may be used as a source of the chloride salts. Additional chlorides may be added to the purge stream as necessary.

  • Patent number: 7766997
Abstract: The subject matter disclosed herein relates to a method of reducing an amount of mercury discharged to an environment in a flue gas (12) generated by combustion of a fuel source. The method includes contacting the flue gas with a moist pulverous material upstream of a particle separator (24), mixing powdered activated carbon (PAC) in an amount between about 0.5 lb/MMacf and 10 lbs/MMacf with the flue gas (12) upstream of the particle separator (24), wherein the PAC interacts with at least a portion of mercury containing compounds in the flue gas (12), and separating the mercury containing compounds from the flue gas (12) containing the moist pulverous material and PAC, thereby reducing an amount of mercury in the flue gas (12).

  • Patent number: 7766342
Abstract: Attachments for a manual wheelchair are provided for navigating a wheelchair over obstacles and uneven terrain, such as a typical curb on a street. The attachments provide for regulating the movement of the wheelchair as the wheelchair descends the curb and to prevent the wheelchair from flipping over during such movement. The attachments include a front caster wheel slider assembly on each side of the wheelchair, a follower wheel assembly and a track belt damping bar. The front caster wheel slider assembly includes a piston that will quickly push the front caster wheels down after they roll over the top edge of the curb. The follower wheel assembly acts as a sensor that will release the piston in the assembly after the front caster wheels roll over the top edge of the curb. As the back wheels of the wheelchair roll over and down the curb, the track belt damping bar slows the descent of the wheelchair.

  • Patent number: 7762195
Abstract: A gas generating propulsion system includes an igniter containing an igniter propellant and an auto igniter. A rocket motor is coupled to the igniter and has a housing containing a main propellant, a rocket motor throat and a nozzle. A release port extends through a portion of the rocket motor. This gas release port has a variable diameter through bore in fluid communication with the main propellant. In this way, the through bore has a variable area that forms an unobstructed open area with a cross-section effective to discharge gas generated by the main propellant such that a pressure increase within the housing remains below a safety value for the housing.
