  • Patent number: 6807310
Abstract: In one example, a transform component of a system receives a first plurality of image parts in a first domain that comprise an initial size. A transform component of the system transforms the first plurality of image parts to obtain a second plurality of image parts in a second domain different from the first domain. A transform component of the system transforms a plurality of image parts based on the second plurality of image parts to obtain a resultant plurality of image parts in the first domain that comprise a resultant size different from the initial size. In a further example, a transform component of a system applies sparse matrix multiplication to each of first and second image parts.

  • Patent number: 6804374
Abstract: A method and apparatus detects the presence of a watermark in digital data. The digital data may represent picture or sound information and maybe in the form of a broadcast television signal or a signal that has been recorded on a recording medium such as a compact disc. The watermark includes coefficients which have been subject to an inverse local orthogonal transform before being embedded in the input data. In order to detect the presence of the watermark, the input watermarked data is first forward transformed and subtracted from the watermark coefficients so as to derive the data coefficients. The data coefficients are squared and formed into a local average to obtain a measure of the power in the local average. The watermark coefficients are divided by the local average so as to scale them and the scaled watermark coefficients are cross-correlated with the input data to detect whether the watermark is present.

  • Patent number: 6729208
Abstract: A tool for removing threaded members, such as fasteners, damaged by corrosion or mechanical stress. The tool includes a first end and a second end opposite the first end. A generally annular body extends between the first and second ends and includes an inner wall. A drive engaging portion is positioned intermediate the first and second ends and is adapted for cooperating with a drive mechanism. A series of spiral flutes is formed along the inner wall of the annular body so as to provide a corresponding series of spiral crests extending along the inner wall. Proceeding from an end of the tool in a direction toward the drive engaging portion, the flutes and crests taper inward toward a central longitudinal axis extending through the annular body. When the tool is placed onto a fastener, the crests bite into an outer surface of the fastener to engage the fastener, thereby facilitating application of torque to the fastener to facilitate its removal.

  • Patent number: 6725569
Abstract: The device (10) and method are used for ventilating an offset pocket space (12) located in a drying section of a papermaking machine by injecting air from a heated dry air supply inlet (11). The offset pocket space (12) is situated between a set of three axially-parallel drying cylinders (20) over which consecutively runs a paper web (14). The device (10) comprises a first air outlet (50) where a first air stream is directed into a cleft (34) defined where the felt (16) rejoins the felt roll (26), and a second air outlet (52) where a second air stream is directed in close proximity to the felt (16) at a location which is upstream of the cleft (34). In use, the device (10) and the corresponding method allow the first air stream to flow through the felt (16) and lift the paper web (14) away from the felt (16) so as to reach the offset pocket space (12). The second air stream creates an air curtain to lower the pressure in a zone between the first (50) and the second air outlet (52).

  • Patent number: 6701984
Abstract: The process is used for making individual wood boards (52) from a plurality of wood pieces (10). In this process, wood pieces (10) of similar length and are joined side by side so as to form a panel (30). The panel (30) is then cut in a longitudinal direction with reference to the wood pieces (10) into panel sections (40) having a similar width. These panel sections (40) are jointed end to end to form a continuous wood board (50), which is then cut into individual wood boards (52). This process allows to manufacture wood boards (52) with a high degree of structural integrity and dimensional stability. It also allows to efficiently use small wood pieces (10) that could have been considered otherwise waste or low-grade materials, thereby increasing the yield of the sawmill.

  • Patent number: 6701019
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for determining visually noticeable differences between two input images. A first contrast image is generated from the first input image and a second contrast image is generated from the second input image. A contrast difference image is then formed from the two contrast images. A mean absolute difference is calculated between blocks of pixels of the first and second input image. Pixels in the contrast difference image which exceed a first threshold produce a first threshold signal and if the mean absolute difference exceeds a second threshold so a second threshold signal is produced. A detection signal is produced from the threshold signals.
