    Abstract: Folded printed products, held at the fold thereof by clamps, are fed to an opening device. This opening device comprises grippers, each gripper having a stationary gripper jaw and a movable gripper jaw which delimit a slide gap in the closed position of the movable gripper jaw. Along this slide gap there is displaceable a pusher member for the purpose of pushing out of the slide gap the printed product gripped at its open-edge region by the respective gripper. The pusher member thereby acts upon a marginal lap of a first product portion which protrudes beyond the other or second product portion. By virtue of the pre-bending of the printed products, the second product portion is entrained during pushing action at the first product portion and, as a beneficial result of such bending, lifts off from the first product portion upon leaving the slide gap, the marginal lap of the first product portion still being guided in the slide gap.

    Abstract: A thermal printer has detachably attached to a frame assembly of a printer a print unit having a built-in thermal head. The print unit accommodates therein an inked ribbon. By a drive member installed within the frame assembly, the thermal head is pressed against the platen roller and consequently driven thereby. The print unit is provided with a unit case and a cover allowed to be opened or shut relative to the unit case. The inked ribbon can be attached to or detached from the interior of the unit case. The unit is capable of incorporating the platen roller therein. In this case, the opening of the cover induces formation of an opening between the platen roller and the thermal head. The unit incorporating the platen roller therein is not required to be provided in the frame assembly thereof with the drive member which would cause the thermal head to be pressed against the platen roller by virtue of a spring member and and consequently induce a displacement of the thermal head.

In one embodiment, the invention comprises a frame spanning the width of the working surface of the blanket cylinder; a plurality of rollers, at least one of which is secured to each end of the frame, the rollers being positioned to straddle the blanket and engage the bearer surfaces of the blanket cylinder, at least one of the rollers being a drive roller; a cleaning brush rotatably mounted on the frame; a drive interconnecting the drive roller and the cleaning brush to cause power developed by frictional engagement of the drive roller and the bearer surface to impart rotation to the cleaning brush; and a mechanism for delaying a cleaning engagement of the cleaning brush with the blanket cylinder until after power generated by frictional engagement of the drive wheel with the bearer surface has caused the cleaning brush to begin rotating.

    Abstract: A barrier-free drainage apparatus includes a trough positioned adjacent the front edge of a platform. The trough has a bottom wall which is positioned below the front edge of the platform, and at least one outlet opening in fluid flow communication with a drain pipe. A grate is positioned inside the trough and has an upper, generally horizontal portion with a plurality of apertures therethrough. The upper portion is supported such each that said upper portion is spaced apart from the trough bottom wall in a generally horizontal position and a top surface of the upper portion is substantially the same height as the front edge of the platform. Another aspect of the invention is the configuration of the outlet openings. A plurality of spaced apart, elongated insert receptacles depend from the bottom wall. The insert receptacles have side wall means and a horizontal base which define a cavity, and each base has two spaced apart outlet openings therein adjacent opposing ends of the base.

    Abstract: A neck booklet machine is described which places an elastic band having a booklet connected to the band around a neck of a container. The booklets are vertically stacked in a curved magazine and pulled by a vacuum cup from the curved magazine, which matches the natural curvature of a stack of booklets having an elastic band on one side. The bottom of the curved magazine is open to allow the elastic bands to hang free. The neck booklet is picked up by a carrier pad and held against and transported along a slide plate. A low vacuum nozzle pulls the loose elastic band downwardly to enable a loop of the elastic band to be picked up by a needle point and held precisely below the booklet on the slide plate. The elastic band is pulled down and around an opening horn extending from the needle point as the neck booklet moves along the slide plate by the carrier pad. The opening horn is carried on supports on the bottom and side with a top opening to allow the elastic band to pass over the opening horn.
