Abstract: A motor drive system and linkage arrangement for a hand prosthesis, wherein the prosthesis has at least one finger member extending generally tangentially with respect to a worm gear wheel secured to the prosthesis and driven by a drive motor and a worm gear located longitudinally within the finger to engage the teeth of the tangential worm gear wheel. When the drive motor runs the worm gear, the finger moves around the worm gear wheel toward or away from another finger member and/or a natural finger to open and close the prosthesis hand's grip. In an alternate embodiment, the drive motor and worm gear arrangement contained in one finger is connected by a linkage to the root portion of at least one other motorless finger mounted for pivotal movement on the prosthetic hand.

Abstract: A smart module circuit board carries a programmable microprocessor and a plurality of relay type interface circuits for use in organizing relatively high voltage input devices and output devices into a complex system wherein a programmed combination of input device signals determines when and if to energize one or more output devices in the system. The interface circuit comprises input and output stages which operate on logic level voltages and which are decoupled by opto-couplers from a relatively high voltage energization circuit which passes through a relatively high voltage electrical device. The energization circuit comprises a triac which is operated by the output stage in response to outputs from the microprocessor, a manual switch connected in parallel with the triac so that a given electrical load device can be manually activated and a multi-colored LED for indicating the conditions of the input and output circuits individually and in combination.

Abstract: An overvoltage protection circuit passes all the normal operating voltages and limits the peak voltage increase during a lightning impulse to a level comparable to the battery voltage. Normal operating voltages of 200 V peak are passed and under lightning impulse conditions the voltage increase is limited to about 90 V. The circuit has first and second protectors connected in series, the first protector being a standard thyristor protector and the second being a gated bidirectional thyristor connected to a diode and a capacitor.
Abstract: A molded plastic pail and a snap-on closure having a flared skirt the bottom of which is manually engaged for removal purposes. A peripheral ring structure integral with the pail sidewall immediately underlies the skirt of the closure when in the sealing relationship with the pail thereby to block access to the skirt. However, a section of the rib structure essentially midway between the bail ears includes a break away panel connected to the rib structure by frangible webs and a living hinge so that it may be pivoted outwardly and downwardly away from the pail wall to afford access to a sufficient portion of the closure skirt to permit removal. The break away section thereafter serves as an integral handle to facilitate pouring from the container.
Abstract: A self-wringing mop is disclosed comprising an elongate handle with distal and proximal ends, a sleeve slidingly and rotatably disposed on the handle, and a swab both connected to the sleeve and removably threadingly connected to the distal end of the handle. The mop further includes indicia thereon, the indicia identifying at least a direction of rotation of the sleeve necessary to wring the swab.
Abstract: An improved coal pulverizer classifying system including a classifier cone extension to protect coal flow into the pulverizer from the annular fine-lifting airflow from the pulverizer throat. The classifier cone extension replaces traditional intermittent discharge structure, improving flow through the classifier system and reducing the disruptive effects of the discharge on the annular flow from the pulverizer throat. The pulverizer feedpipe outlet is located in the classifier cone extension, but above the throat of the extension to prevent interference between the feedpipe and the flow of coal through the extension. In a preferred form an adjustable clearance cone is mounted for vertical adjustment on the lower end of the feedpipe.
Abstract: A sensor detects the absolute angular position of a rotatable clamp arm between full opened and full closed positions. The sensor is coupled to a clamp arm pivot shaft to provide output signals corresponding to the absolute position of the clamp arm. One or more programmable angular position set points are setable at angular positions in advance of the full open and full closed positions of the clamp arm. Outputs are generated when the clamp arm reaches and/or exceeds each set point.
Abstract: A process for recovering quantities of carbonyl compound material from spent solvent-in-water emulsions derived from paint overspray treatment and capture systems in which the spent solvent-in-water emulsion is removed from the paint overspray treatment and capture system and fed into a reaction vessel. The reaction vessel employed includes an outer housing defining a reaction chamber and a plurality of mixing blades movably positioned in the reaction chamber. The surface area of the mixing blades are maintained at a temperature sufficient to generate volatilized carbonyl compound. The interior of the reaction vessel is maintained under a vacuum. The spent solvent-in-water emulsion is processed in the reaction vessel for an interval sufficient to generate volatilized carbonyl compound.
Abstract: An extrusion die for use in producing aluminum alloy articles of extruded shapes or tube having a void with defined internal dimension, said die comprising:i) a die plate with at least one die cavity defined by a first die bearing surface which defines an external shape for such extruded article;ii) an extruding mandrel secured in said die cavity and having a second die bearing surface which defines an internal shape for such extruded void;iii) a truing mandrel positioned beyond said mandrel second die bearing surface for correcting internal shape of such void and providing such defined internal dimension, said truing mandrel having a forming surface defining an external dimension relative to an external dimension of said extruding mandrel for correcting of internal shape where said truing mandrel external dimension is at least equal to a lower limit for finish tolerance on such internal dimension, said truing mandrel forming surface being spaced from said extruding mandrel bearing surface by a reduced portio
Abstract: An apparatus assembles a heat exchanger core having first and second side plates. The first and second side plates cooperate with first and second end plates to sandwich a plurality of layered tubes and fin plates therebetween. The apparatus includes a lifting mechanism for stacking the tubes and fin plates with respect to one another to define a layered stack having opposite sides and opposite ends. A side plate assembling mechanism associates the first and second side plates on opposite sides of the layered stack. An end plate assembling mechanism associates the first and second end plates on opposite ends of the layered stack.
