Abstract: An electrical connector is soldered or affixed to a conductive element of a glass sheet of a vehicular window via radiation heating of a layer of solder with an infrared radiative heating device. The heating device may include an infrared lamp and a reflector, which functions to direct the radiant energy from the lamp to a target region generally corresponding with the location of the solder layer between the electrical connector and the conductive element. The heating device is operable to rapidly and substantially heat the solder layer to a desired temperature to melt the solder layer, while substantially limiting directing of heat to the glass sheet. The electrical connector may be affixed at a vehicular or modular window assembly plant, such that the glass sheet may be transported from a glass manufacturing plant to the vehicular or modular window assembly plant without the electrical connector.
Abstract: The invention provides a layer of photosensitive material that may be directly patterned. The photosensitive material may then be decomposed to leave voids or air gaps in the layer. This may provide a low dielectric constant layer with reduced resistance capacitance delay characteristics.

Abstract: A multiple processor device stores a stream of data as a plurality of data segments, which includes multiplexed data fragments from at least one of a plurality of virtual channels. The data segments that comprise the stream of data correspond to the multiplexed data fragments from the virtual channels. The multiple processor device then decodes at least one data segment in accordance with one of a plurality of transmission protocols to produce a decoded data segment. The multiple processor device then stores the decoded data segment to align it in accordance with a data path segment size. The multiple processor device then interprets the stored decoded data segment with respect to a corresponding one of the plurality of virtual channels to determine a destination of the stored decoded data segment. The multiple processor device then stores the decoded data segment as part of reassembled data.

Abstract: Methods and associated structures for bypassing virtual memory and memory mapping management features provided in a memory controller applied to simpler computing applications. In one aspect hereof, simpler, embedded computing applications may utilize standard memory controllers including cash management and memory component interfacing features but may bypass virtual memory management features within the same memory controller component. Rather, features and aspects hereof intercept memory accesses generated by the memory controller for address translation features and perform simpler address substitution to apply an appropriate translated address to the system bus.

Abstract: An in-vehicle monitor detects the occurrence of a meta-event related to the operation of a vehicle, such as the vehicle's operation over a maximum allowable speed, operation in a prohibited geographic area, operation during a specific time frame, or combinations thereof. The monitor signals a server via a wireless data link, and the server determines an appropriate deferred action to be taken by an in-vehicle controller, such as disabling the engine, limiting vehicle speed, and locking vehicle doors, upon occurrence of a second meta-event including conditions such as time delays, vehicle speed and direction, and vehicle location. The system can thereby allow orderly and safe control of vehicle functions for purposes such as terminating a pursuit, enforcing legal sentences and operator restrictions, and controlling fleet vehicle operations.

Abstract: A wipe-off unit is provided with a cleaning liquid ejection member in a manner to be positioned below a horizontal surface coincident with a nozzle surface and on a sheet feeding side relative to a pressing roller. A wiping sheet is fed from below to the pressing roller through a space between the pressing roller and the cleaning liquid ejection member, and a cleaning liquid is applied to a surface of the wiping sheet.
Abstract: A power electronic package includes: first and second high thermal conductivity insulating non-planar substrates; and a plurality of electronic components mounted on each of the substrates. The substrates are coupled each other at a plurality of bonding regions so that mechanical separation between the substrates is controlled by the number of the bonding regions, an arrangement of the bonding regions, a shape of each bonding region, and a material of the bonding regions. The mechanical separation provides a net axially-directed compressive force in the electronic components.

Abstract: Electrophoresis systems, assemblies, cassettes and methods for easily, and more effectively and efficiently, isolating a biomolecule band from an electrophoretic gel are provided. The methods use an electrophoresis cassette with at least one loading well and at lest one collection well. A sample containing the biomolecule of interest is placed into at least one loading well and buffer or water is placed in at lest one collection well. An electric field is then applied to drive migration and separation of the sample into different component bands within the gel. When the component of interest is located within at least one collection well, the electric field is terminated and the buffer or water in the collection well is removed, thereby isolating and collecting the sample component of interest.
Abstract: A man-machine interface which provides tactile feedback to various sensing body parts is disclosed. The device employs one or more vibrotactile units, where each unit comprises a mass and a mass-moving actuator. As the mass is accelerated by the mass-moving actuator, the entire vibrotactile unit vibrates. Thus, the vibrotactile unit transmits a vibratory stimulus to the sensing body part to which it is affixed. The vibrotactile unit may be used in conjunction with a spatial placement sensing device which measures the spatial placement of a measured body part. A computing device uses the spatial placement of the measured body part to determine the desired vibratory stimulus to be provided by the vibrotactile unit. In this manner, the computing device may control the level of vibratory feedback perceived by the corresponding sensing body part in response to the motion of the measured body part. The sensing body part and the measured body part may be separate or the same body part.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for cooling, preferably within an enclosure, a diversity of heat-generating components, with at least some of the components having high-power densities and others having low-power densities. Heat generated by the essentially relatively few high-power-density components, such as microprocessor chips for example, is removed by direct liquid cooling, whereas heat generated by the more numerous low-power or low-watt-density components, such as memory chips for example, is removed by liquid-assisted air cooling in the form of a closed loop comprising a plurality of heating and cooling zones that alternate along the air path.

Abstract: An improved cross-coupled CMOS high-voltage latch that is used for storing data bits to be written to memory cells of a non-volatile memory is provided with a switching circuit that, during writing of data bits into the memory cells of the latch, provides a high series impedance between one leg of the latch and ground to limit leakage current. A large number of latches are connected in parallel and their accumulated leakage currents are limited by the switching circuit to prevent overload of a high-voltage generator, such as a charge pump circuit, for the high-voltage latch, so that data can be properly written in the memory cells of the non-volatile memory.
