  • Patent number: 4488452
Abstract: The mechanism comprises a rectilinearly movable roller guide which at its upper end can be coupled to the plunger of the fuel pump and in the lower end of which an arm is journalled by means of a pivot pin. The arm supports a follower roller which is held in contact with an actuating cam on the rotating control shaft of the engine. To the arm there is secured a pin engaging in a vertical guideway which can be moved horizontally so as to pivot the arm between two end positions each corresponding to one direction of rotation of the engine. Each end position is defined by the mutual engagement, under the influence of the force acting on the follower roller, between two abutment surfaces provided on the arm and the roller guide, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4489355
Abstract: A locking device for a magnetic tape cassette in a magnetic tape device has a lever disposed below the insertion slot; a blocking arm projecting out of the housing; a thrust arm; and an ejector arm. When a magnetic tape cassette is locked in with the locking arm, the thrust arm engages via a wedge with a cartridge-like carrier provided with three rotary bodies and by upward movement of the carrier towards the insertion slot presses the rotary bodies into the insertion slot from below and against the magnetic tape cassette. The magnetic tape cassette is thereby securely held at the reference points. When releasing the locking arm, the magnetic tape cassette is ejected by the pre-stressed ejector arm.

  • Patent number: 4487835
Abstract: Gene products of plasmid DNA, such as proteins, are prepared in high yields by cultivating bacteria carrying a plasmid which shows a controlled constant plasmid copy number at one temperature and a much higher or totally uncontrolled copy number at a different temperature. The plasmid may be prepared by recombinant DNA technique using a cloning vector showing the temperature dependent plasmid copy number pattern.

  • Patent number: 4484545
Abstract: The exhaust valve has a valve member which opens away from the combustion chamber of the engine cylinder and which is biased for opening by the gas pressure prevailing in the combustion chamber. The valve is kept closed by an opposed hydraulic pressure which in a holding chamber acts on a holding piston secured to the spindle of the valve member. When the valve is to be opened, the pressure in the holding chamber is relieved and one or more valve controlled flow passages are opened, through which hydraulic liquid flows from the holding chamber to a reservoir defined by a further piston secured to the valve spindle. The two pistons are preferably of substantially equal size. When the exhaust valve is to be closed a hydraulic pressure is applied to a substantially smaller closing piston which is also secured to the valve spindle.

  • Patent number: 4482341
Abstract: For converting a web of wrapping material from a U-shaped cross section into a tubular shape, an edge guiding mechanism is used having two edge engaging means which may be performed as suction means. Each of the suction means is supported by a pair of guiding rods converging from a forming means and towards a longitudinal welding means. When the suction means are moved along the rods, the suction means are moved towards one another. The suction means provide an engagement with the outer surface of the edges of the web of material and ensure the movement of the edges towards one another and towards the longitudinal welding means so that a web even of a thin and flexible material is securely engaged with the longitudinal welding means.

  • Patent number: 4481305
Abstract: Hydrocarbons and especially as gasoline are prepared by the catalytic conversion in two subsequent reactors of a synthesis gas containing hydrogen and carbon oxides and having a mole ratio CO/H.sub.2 above 1 and when the conversion commences a mole ratio CO/CO.sub.2 of 5 to 20. In the first reactor, which is preferably a cooled reactor, the synthesis gas is converted into a methane-containing first intermediate and this at least partly further into a second intermediate containing dimethyl ether, at 5-100 bar and 150.degree.-400.degree. C., in the presence of catalyst(s), the effluent from this reactor is combined with a recycle stream containing low boiling components of the effluent from the second reactor, and then passed to the second reactor, which is adiabatic, where the conversion of the second intermediate is carried out at substantially the same pressure as in the first reactor and 150.degree.-600.degree. • Patent number: 4480754
Abstract: A screening apparatus for grains comprises a housing, wherein a support structure is arranged which is rotatable by means of a main shaft. The support carries a screen drum rotatably mounted upon a planet shaft arranged eccentrically with respect to the main shaft. The support, furthermore, carries vanes engaging a delivery channel for the screened goods. In order to achieve a comparatively small resulting centrifugal force effect upon the material fed to the screen drum, while maintaining optimal peripheral speeds as regards the delivery vanes and the speed of the screen drum, the screen drum is arranged with an eccentricity with respect to the main shaft which is smaller that the greatest radius of the screen drum.

  • Patent number: 4479755
Abstract: Acoustically sized bleed passages are provided in the shroud wall of a rotary compressor to admit expansion waves to the suction-sides of successive passing blades to control the boundary layer. The expansion waves are generated by reflecting compression waves formed in the passages by the pressure sides of passing blades. The passages are oriented to receive high pressure bleed gas at maximum gas particle velocity, and the passages are configured to diffuse the gas to increase static bleed pressure.

  • Patent number: 4479347
Abstract: A loading vehicle having a pick-up drum with resilient fingers for picking up straw material from the ground and a conveyor drum with conveyor arms, fitted in rows for carrying the material into the vehicle. The pick-up drum and the conveyor drum are disposed with respect to each other so that the conveying direction of the material is abruptly changed when the material is introduced into the path of motion of the conveyors. This produces a damming-up effect causing the material to be distributed over the entire conveyor front, which minimizes the tendency of squeezing between conveyors and the housing wall defining the conveyor duct at one side. The change in conveying direction also causes a certain compaction of the material, resulting in a better utilization of the available volume. The structure allows short spacing between the conveyor arms and closely spaced knives are positioned in the conveyor duct so that the blades of straw can be cut in small pieces which are suitable for ensilage.

  • Patent number: 4478475
Abstract: For the purpose of securing a thin, enamelled wire (15) to a tubular plug pin (10), whose one end is embedded in a massive block (14), the wire (15) is clamped in the pin (10) by means of a plug (16) which is conical at both ends and may thus, no matter how it faces, be forced into the pin (10) to clamp the wire (15) to a flattened state there so that its enamel bursts, which provides an effective electrical contact.

  • Patent number: RE31759
Abstract: A container and lid combination in which the lid is removable from the container to open the container and it is replaceable to close the container. The container has a body with a mouth including a strip of annular extent secured to the lid. The body has an annular weakening notch in the vicinity of the strip and the container is separable at the notch to separate a part of the container mouth and the lid together with the strip from the body of the container. The notch is positioned radially inwards of the strip and upon rupture of the notch separate parts are formed which can be reengaged upon replacement of the lid on the container. Locating surfaces are provided on the lid and container for establishing a determined oriented position of replacement of the lid on the body of the container.
