  • Patent number: 10201044
Abstract: A master lighting fixture and a satellite lighting fixture can each include an LED board including multiple LEDs that can emit visible light. A power supply and a LED regulator can be connected to the LED board in the master lighting fixture to provide power to operate the LED board. The LED board in the master lighting fixture can be connected to the LED board in the satellite lighting fixture to form a circuit to allow the power provided by the LED driver to be transmitted to the LED board in the satellite lighting fixture. A defect in the LED board in the master lighting fixture or the satellite lighting fixture can open the circuit, which can prevent power from being transmitted through the LED boards to enhance the performance of LEDs in the LED boards or reduce a risk of damage that can be caused by the LED boards.

  • Patent number: 10197245
Abstract: Optics for asymmetrically redirecting light from one or more light engines include a dome optic, and first and second reflecting surfaces. The dome optic refracts light emitted by the light engines. The first reflecting surface redirects at least a portion of the light that is initially emitted toward a backward horizontal direction, toward the forward horizontal direction. The first reflecting surface extends substantially vertically and along a transverse horizontal direction, proximate to and behind the dome optic, and has a height greater than or equal to a height of the dome optic. The second reflecting surface reflects downwardly at least a portion of the refracted light that is initially emitted in the forward horizontal direction. The second reflecting surface is proximate to the dome optic and forward of the dome optic, and forms an angle of 45 degrees or more with respect to vertical.

  • Patent number: 10194503
Abstract: A composite light source includes a plurality of illumination panels, that emit light of a fixed color and a variable luminous intensity. Over time, the luminous intensities of at least two of the illumination panels vary, while a combined luminous intensity of the illumination panels remains about constant. Another composite light source includes a plurality of illumination panels that emit light. Each illumination panel of at least a first subset of the plurality of illumination panels emits the light with a first luminous intensity, and each illumination panel of at least a second subset of the plurality of illumination panels emits the light with a second luminous intensity that is different from the first luminous intensity.

  • Patent number: 10187952
Abstract: A system allows a light fixture to have a wider range of color temperatures (CCT) while limiting the warmest temperature reached at full intensity. The CCT of the light output may be controlled independently of intensity across a certain range of CCT and dependent on intensity across another range. In an implementation, both intensity and CCT may be adjusted from a single handle, where the interface positions may be divided into multiple zones. In another implementation, intensity may be adjusted from a first handle, while CCT may be adjusted from a second handle. The CCT of the light output may be limited to cooler levels when the intensity is higher, and/or the intensity of the light may be limited to lower levels when the CCT is warmer.

  • Patent number: 10175470
Abstract: The disclosed examples relate to methods and systems facilitate self-healing of regions of electrowetting devices. Electrowetting devices may be coupled to a switchable AC/DC electrical power supply that provides AC power to the electrowetting device to control electrowetting device operation and DC power to promote self-healing of the electrowetting device. A monitoring circuit outputs a signal in response to electrical power supply operating characteristic changes due to a failure of the electrowetting device's dielectric. The controller, responding to the signal, switches the power supply output from AC power to DC power to the electrowetting device. In response to the DC power, the electrowetting device responds by healing the degraded dielectric. When the failure is determined to be corrected, the power supply output is switched from DC power to AC power to the electrowetting device. The number of times self-healing is applied may be tracked for future analysis.

  • Patent number: 10172210
Abstract: A method of generating drive conditions for light sources to maintain a desired color of a light emitted by the light sources, as perceived by a human observer, over a change in a reference luminance, includes determining a corrected color that produces perception of the desired color, by the human observer, in the presence of the reference luminance; and determining light source drive conditions to produce the corrected color. A light fixture includes multiple illumination panels and control electronics. Some of the illumination panels emit a reference luminance; others emit light of an accent color different from the reference luminance. The control electronics modify an intensity level of the reference luminance, and compensate drive conditions supplied to LED chips that emit the accent color, to compensate the accent color for effects of modifying the intensity level, on human perception of the accent color.

  • Patent number: 10143056
Abstract: Aspects are provided for controlling outdoor lighting systems using a photocontrol interface that can be connected to a motion sensor and a luminaire driver or ballast. In some aspects, a dimming control node is electrically and communicatively coupled to a motion sensor via wired connections to a photocontrol interface. The dimming control node is also communicatively coupled to a luminaire ballast or driver. The dimming control node can provide power to the motion sensor. The dimming control node can also receive sensor data from the motion sensor via one of the wired connections. The dimming control node can determine a sensor output state of the motion sensor from the received sensor data, and can select a dim-level configuration corresponding to the determined sensor output state. The dimming control node can cause the luminaire ballast or driver to implement the selected dim-level configuration.

  • Patent number: 10122454
Abstract: A device uses gated retro-reflectors to transmit uplink data in a visible light communication (VLC) system. The gated retro-reflector includes a retro-reflector and a gating shutter between the retro-reflector and a VLC light source. A light sensor receives VLC data at regular intervals in which a light pulse received during one of the intervals represents a first downloaded symbol and absence of a light pulse during another one of the intervals represents a second downloaded symbol. A controller controls the gating shutter to send uplink data from the device responsive to each received VLC light pulse. The controller opens the gating shutter during the reception of a VLC light pulse to upload a first uploaded symbol and closes the gating shutter during the reception of a VLC light pulse to upload a second uploaded symbol.
