Abstract: A system detects multiple occupancy modes for a PIR sensor. The a single PIR motion sensor that generates a sensor output signal that is filtered or sampled to determine more than one type of motion. Upon determining the types of motion detected, the system controls a lighting system based on the type or types of motion detected.

Abstract: A luminaire is provided for illuminating a task surface and a volume of space above and about the task surface, including a limited human occupiable space proximate the task surface. The luminaire includes a generally vertical riser portion and a generally horizontal extension arm portion. A task lighting element on the extension arm portion directs light in a directional light distribution pattern toward a task surface. A source of light associated with the riser portion of the luminaire produces light in a generally diffuse light distribution pattern which, when the luminaire is supported in its operative position relative to the task surface, illuminates the volume over and about the task surface.
Abstract: Aspects are described for a test configuration for emergency lighting fixtures. In one example, a light fixture includes a lighting element, a battery, a clock, and a processor. The processor is configurable via a user interface. The processor is configured to test the light fixture. The testing includes illuminating the lighting element for a predetermined duration using the battery as a power source. The testing is initiated by a timer that uses the clock. The processor of the light fixture receives input, via the user interface, adjusting a value for the start timer. Based on the start timer expiring, the processor initiates a test of the light fixture for the predetermined duration. The processor further indicates a result of the test via the user interface. Based on the test being successful, the processor resets the start timer.

Abstract: A heat sink comprising pin fins extending from a base plate of the heatsink. Some of the pin fins are angled outwardly towards an outer edge of the base plate such that the tips of some of the pin fins may extend beyond the outer edge of the base plate. The distance the outer pin fins extend beyond the outer edge of the base plate can correspond to a maximum diameter of the heatsink. The maximum diameter of the heatsink can be greater than the diameter of the base plate of the heatsink.

Abstract: A dual output downlight luminaire includes a housing that forms at least a first cavity. A partition extends from a portion of the housing and at least partially forms a boundary between the first cavity and an annular second cavity. A first light source emits a first light that is centered about an optical axis and propagates toward a first output aperture. An optic redirects the first light to form a first light beam that exits the luminaire through the first output aperture. A concentrated portion of the first light beam subtends an angle of 60 degrees or less and is centered about the optical axis. A plurality of second light sources, within the second cavity, emit a second light that exits the luminaire through an annular second output aperture. The first and second light sources are independently controllable with respect to each other.

Abstract: A bracket facilitates retrofit installation of items in a joist cavity. For example, the bracket permits mounting of a junction box containing a transformer, for use with low-voltage luminaire. The bracket wedges between the joists and provides a mounting for the junction box so that the junction box does not rest on a ceiling panel fixed to the underside of the joist cavity.
Abstract: The examples relate to implementations of an apparatus and a luminaire that use isolated display and lighting portions and optical passages for backlit general illumination through the display. The apparatus includes a general illumination light source, an optical coupling, and an optical array. A luminaire includes the apparatus and a display light board. The display light board may include display light emitters and transparent regions. The transparent regions enable general illumination light to pass through the display light board. The general illumination light source outputs general illumination light that is directed by the optical coupling toward the optical array. The optical array has optical passages and optical array supports. The optical array supports frame the display light emitters and the optical passages channel the directed general illumination light from the optical coupling around display light emitters framed near the optical array supports.
Abstract: An antenna assembly includes a radio frequency (RF) connector connected to a first end of a coaxial cable and a wire antenna attached to a second end of the coaxial cable. The wire antenna may be made of a shape memory alloy, such as nitinol. Examples of RF connectors include U.FL, IPEX, IPAX, IPX, AMC, MHF and UMCC connectors that allow the wire antenna to be removably attached to a printed circuit board (PCB) of a lighting control device and to avoid hardwiring the antenna to the PCB. The device that includes the antenna assembly may be incorporated into a luminaire for wireless control of the luminaire. The lighting control device may be installed within the luminaire, such that the wire antenna is positioned between a light source and a diffuser. A number of such luminaries may be combined to provide an intelligent lighting system.

Abstract: A tri-lobe optic for a linear light source, and related light rails, retrofit kits and light fixtures, are disclosed. The linear light source defines a light emitting region along an axis. The tri-lobe optic includes an optical material having a constant cross-sectional profile along a direction of the axis from a first axial end to a second axial end. The cross-sectional profile includes a first azimuthal side relative to the axis and concave and convex curves relative to the axis. The curves are a first concave curve coupled with the first azimuthal side, a first convex curve, a second concave curve, a second convex curve and a third concave curve. Each of the concave curves defines a lobe of the optical material along the direction of the axis. The cross-sectional profile further includes a second azimuthal side relative to the axis, coupled with the third concave curve.
Abstract: An auxiliary power system for powering an auxiliary circuit is connected to the same power source that powers the lighting element within a luminaire. The auxiliary power system may be connected to the output of the power source in series or in parallel with the lighting element. The power source may be an LED driver and the lighting element may include one or more LEDs or the power source may be an electronic ballast and the lighting element may be one or more fluorescent lamps.
