Abstract: A DMX512 network may include two gateway devices or two ports of a single gateway device, which are connected to a number of DMX512 devices. Under normal operating conditions, one gateway device or one port transmits and the other gateway device or the other port receives DMX512 frames. If there is a connection failure, then both gateway devices or both ports may transmit DMX512 frames. Once the connection is restored, the system may detect the restoration and one of the gateway devices or one of the ports ceases to transmit DMX512 frames.

Abstract: A configurable planar lighting system includes a system track and at least one, and preferably more than one, very thin profile planar light module attachable at selectable positions along the system track. The thin profile planar light module holds a very thin area light source, which is electrified when the planar fixture module is attached to the system track. The configurable planar lighting system can be mounted and configured on a wall without surrounding structures or to the underside of a counter, cabinet, shelf or the like. The configurable planar lighting system can also act as a shelf for light objects such as decorative objects, and can be used for task lighting or display lighting or both in versatile configurations. In under-structure applications, the lighting system can be mounted to provide configurable lighting without the physical parts of the system being visible at normal viewing angles.
Abstract: A dimmable LED lighting system includes first, second and third types of LED light sources, and an LED driver to control the supply of current on first, second and third channels, respectively to the first, second and third types of LED light sources. The first, second and third types of LED light sources are selected according to their spectral power distribution (SPD) curves. The selected SPD curves together model a dimming color curve that is characteristic of an incandescent light source when the first, second and third types of LED light sources are separately driven with current at predefined power ratios that correspond to dimming levels over a dimming region of the dimming color curve. The dimmable LED lighting system can have a color rendering index Ra greater than 80 over the dimming region.

Abstract: A network switch and luminaire provide environmental lighting via network infrastructure. The network switch operates in a communication mode that communicates, via a network interface, data with the luminaire over a network. Some portion of the data may be lighting control information for the luminaire that is produced by a control device. The network uses a network protocol that provides power to the luminaire using a network cable, where the luminaire uses the power to illuminate a lighting element. In response to a signal received by an emergency control input on the network switch, the emergency circuitry switches the network switch from the communication mode to an emergency lighting mode. The emergency lighting mode bypasses the processor used for communicating data via the network interface, and provides, via the network cable attached to the network interface, only power to the luminaire.

Abstract: A lighting system includes various LED boards. The LED boards are connected to a power source via an LED driver that regulates power from the power source to the LED boards. The LED driver includes a positive output and a negative output. The positive output of the LED driver is connected to a positive connection point of a first LED board and the negative output of the LED driver is connected to a negative connection point of a last LED board to distribute power or current approximately evenly across the LED boards. Distributing power or current approximately evenly across the LED boards or balancing current through the LED boards can cause the brightness or intensity of various LEDs in the lighting system to be approximately the same.
Abstract: A system allows a light fixture to have a wider range of color temperatures (CCT) while limiting the warmest temperature reached at full intensity. The CCT of the light output may be controlled independently of intensity across a certain range of CCT and dependent on intensity across another range. In an implementation, both intensity and CCT may be adjusted from a single handle, where the interface positions may be divided into multiple zones. In another implementation, intensity may be adjusted from a first handle, while CCT may be adjusted from a second handle. The CCT of the light output may be limited to cooler levels when the intensity is higher, and/or the intensity of the light may be limited to lower levels when the CCT is warmer.

Abstract: A heat sink for a directional recessed lighting fixture, comprises a wedge-shaped rotatable inner heat sink 110 configured to fit within a hollow interior of an outer heat sink 130. The inner heat sink has an opening 120, for transmission of light from a light source 125 it houses. The inner heat sink includes a gimbal shaft 115 pivotally mounted to an inside wall 132 of the outer heat sink. The inner heat sink has a vertical surface 112 formed on one side, which is close to inside wall 132, when rotated in one direction (FIG. 1A) to direct light in a first direction. The inner heat sink has an angularly offset surface 114 formed on an opposite side, which is close to the inside wall, when rotated in an opposite direction (FIG. 1B) to direct light in a second direction.
Abstract: An optical assembly for an LED light system with a LED light source is provided to control a light pattern of a light beam produced by the system, such as for spot or narrow flood light applications. The optical assembly includes a conical reflector with an interior reflective surface, a light diffuser and an optic holder. The light diffuser has an annular disk-shape with a central opening. The optic holder is mounted to a narrow open top of the reflector, and suspends the light diffuser inside of the reflector along an optical axis. The light diffuser is a cost-efficient optical element, which can be used in combination with the reflector to redistribute light in the system in order to soften a peripheral light area surrounding a center beam light area of the light pattern of the light beam, and reduce a harsh edge between the center beam and peripheral light areas.
Abstract: A pole luminaire mounts to a base and illuminates an area adjacent to the base. The luminaire includes a core structure having a plurality of side portions that extend vertically from the base, disposed about an elongate, open central shaft. One or more luminaire subassemblies couple with the core structure. Each luminaire subassembly includes a housing with a face panel that defines an aperture, a face plate coupled within the aperture, and a light engine having one or more light emitters. Light is directed through the aperture and the face plate into the area.

Abstract: Battery charge function may be in an LED driver which eliminates the duplication of line interface circuitry. A single line interface circuit provides the input power conversion for both the battery charge function and normal operation of the LED driver. During a loss of power, the LEDs may be controlled using power from the battery backup module.

Abstract: A multi-mode control device is provided for controlling an external load device. The control device includes a high-power interface, a low-power interface, and a control module. The high-power interface can be electrically coupled to a high-power module providing current from an external power source to the load device. The low-power interface can be electrically coupled to a low-power module. The high-power interface can receive a first current from the high-power module. The low-power interface can receive a second current from the low-power module that is less than the first current. The low-power interface can prevent the first current from flowing to the low-power module. The control module, which is electrically coupled to the high-power interface and the low-power interface, can operate in a high-power mode for powering the control module using the first current and a low-power mode for powering the control module using the lower second current.
