  • Patent number: 10012353
Abstract: A two-component luminaire for illuminating an architectural space includes a housing with a panel that faces the architectural space. A peripheral edge of the housing, having first and second edge segments, forms an output aperture that faces the architectural space. A plane bisecting the output aperture defines a boundary between an indirect lighting region and a direct lighting region. The luminaire includes a primary optical subsystem arranged within the housing so as to be hidden from the direct lighting region by the first panel section, and configured to generate and emit light, through the output aperture, solely into the indirect lighting region, and a secondary optical subsystem, disposed within the housing and configured to generate and emit light through the output aperture.

  • Patent number: 10009983
Abstract: Disclosed are various techniques for lighting control of groups of light fixtures by a remote device. The remote device receives, via a wireless network interface, an identifier from a photocontrol device that manages light output of the light fixture. The remote device transmits a request to establish a point-to-point communication session directly with the photocontrol device using the wireless network interface. Upon establishing the communication session, the remote device receives a list of photocontrols discovered by the photocontrol device via the photocontrol network. In response to input received, via a user interface of the remote device, to adjust a dimming schedule for a group of the photocontrols, the remote device instructs the photocontrol device to transmit, via the photocontrol network, an adjustment to a configuration for the group.

  • Patent number: 10006605
Abstract: A wall wash lighting assembly is provided for a recessed light fixture mountable on a ceiling. The lighting assembly includes an optical assembly and a trim face plate connected thereto. The optical assembly has a first kicker reflector, a second kicker reflector and a light-shaping optical film. The first kicker reflector reflects light from a light source. The second kicker reflector reflects light received from the first kicker reflector toward an adjacent wall. The light-shaping optical film spreads light from the light source and the first and second kicker reflectors in a uniform light pattern in a target area, such as onto the adjacent wall or downward in a direction parallel to the adjacent wall. The trim face plate has a trim opening through which light is outputted onto the target area. The lighting assembly can employ detachable fasteners to allow for the interchangeability of the optical film and the trim face plate.

  • Patent number: 10004120
Abstract: A network switch and luminaire provide environmental lighting via network infrastructure. The network switch operates in a communication mode that communicates, via a network interface, data with the luminaire over a network. Some portion of the data may be lighting control information for the luminaire that is produced by a control device. The network uses a network protocol that provides power to the luminaire using a network cable, where the luminaire uses the power to illuminate a lighting element. In response to a signal received by an emergency control input on the network switch, the emergency circuitry switches the network switch from the communication mode to an emergency lighting mode. The emergency lighting mode bypasses the processor used for communicating data via the network interface, and provides, via the network cable attached to the network interface, only power to the luminaire.

  • Publication number: 20180145749
Abstract: Lighting installations having improved visible light communication capabilities. A lighting installation includes a plurality of LED segments. The plurality of LED segments comprises at least a first LED segment, a second LED segment, and a third LED segment interposed between the first LED segment and the second LED segment. The lighting installation is configured to drive the first and second LED segments so as to emit light in modulation patterns having VLC codes different from each other and to drive the third LED segment to emit un-modulated light. In this way, the third LED segment physically separates the first and second LED segments from each other and prevents intermingling of their emitted light so that a mobile device can easily detect the different VLC codes of the first and second LED segments.

  • Publication number: 20180145536
Abstract: Aspects are described for dual-distribution lighting devices. For example, a dual-distribution lighting device includes a forward-throw module with a first lighting element that can provide directional light, a wide-throw module with a second lighting element that can provide light with a wide distribution, an interface element that can to receive input, and a processing device. In response to the input being received via the interface element, the processing device deactivates one of the forward-throw and wide-throw modules and activates the other of the forward-throw and wide-throw modules, thereby causing the dual-distribution lighting device to switch between providing directional light and a wide distribution of light.

  • Patent number: 9980351
Abstract: A lighting system utilizes intelligent system elements, such as lighting devices, user interfaces for lighting control or the like and possibly sensors. The system also has a data communication network. Some number of the intelligent lighting system elements, including at least two of the lighting devices, also support wireless communication with other non-lighting-system devices at the premises. Each such element has a communication interface system configured to provide a relatively short range, low power wireless data communication link for use by other non-lighting-system devices at the premises in proximity to the respective intelligent system element. Also, in such an element, the processor is configured to control communications via the communication interface system so as to provide access to the data network and through the data network to the wide area network outside the premises for non-lighting related communications of the other non-lighting-system devices.

  • Publication number: 20180124896
Abstract: A processing device can digitally control lighting fixtures by receiving a request to generate light at a correlated color temperature (“CCT”) level in an environment. The environment can include a first lighting fixture having a first range of generatable CCT values and a second lighting fixture having a second range of generatable CCT values. The processing device can determine a first CCT value based on the request and the first range. The processing device can further determine a second CCT value based on the first CCT value and the second range. The processing device can further transmit a first digital signal to the first lighting fixture to cause the first lighting fixture to generate light at the first CCT value. The processing device can further transmit a second digital signal to the second lighting fixture to cause the second lighting fixture to generate light at the second CCT value.

  • Patent number: 9958291
Abstract: A system and method may be used to control a plurality of services for one or more facilities. A data store may receive a first meter catalog that identifies a first meter, and a second meter catalog that identifies a second meter. The data store may also receive first and second meter readings from the first and second meters. The first and second meter readings may be indicative of provision of services to the one or more facilities. A processor may automatically process the first and second meter readings to provide first and second processed meter readings that are more readily understood by a user. A display screen may display the first and second processed meter readings. An input device may receive user input that establishes control and/or user reporting related to provision of the services.

  • Publication number: 20180095142
Abstract: Aspects are described for a test configuration for emergency lighting fixtures. In one example, a light fixture includes a lighting element, a battery, a clock, and a processor. The processor is configurable via a user interface. The processor is configured to test the light fixture. The testing includes illuminating the lighting element for a predetermined duration using the battery as a power source. The testing is initiated by a timer that uses the clock. The processor of the light fixture receives input, via the user interface, adjusting a value for the start timer. Based on the start timer expiring, the processor initiates a test of the light fixture for the predetermined duration. The processor further indicates a result of the test via the user interface. Based on the test being successful, the processor resets the start timer.

  • Publication number: 20180098402
Abstract: A method of generating drive conditions for light sources to maintain a desired color of a light emitted by the light sources, as perceived by a human observer, over a change in a reference luminance, includes determining a corrected color that produces perception of the desired color, by the human observer, in the presence of the reference luminance; and determining light source drive conditions to produce the corrected color. A light fixture includes multiple illumination panels and control electronics. Some of the illumination panels emit a reference luminance; others emit light of an accent color different from the reference luminance. The control electronics modify an intensity level of the reference luminance, and compensate drive conditions supplied to LED chips that emit the accent color, to compensate the accent color for effects of modifying the intensity level, on human perception of the accent color.
